I'm not sure which tag I can use. The author died in 1960, the portrait was made in 1932. Can you correct it for me? --PancoPinco (talk) 11:13, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

There is likely no valid license for it, as normaly such paintings bekome public domain after 70 year pastthe death of the author. You have to wait until the end of 2030 to make it {{PD-old}}. --JuTa 16:08, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

So, I made a gallery dedicated to flags seen in real life. Is the disclaimer good or it needs work? SpinnerLaserz (talk) 02:19, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Good for what? --JuTa 02:22, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
The majority of the images featured in the gallery that flags are incidental. I made this just for those who are interested in flags. Also, there are flags that are controversial like the Japanese Rising Sun Flag. SpinnerLaserz (talk) 02:28, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
Fine, and? Or in other word: I dont see a need for improvement nor I understand your question. --JuTa 02:31, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Ich hatte es in Category:Media without a license: needs history check gefunden. --JuTa 07:59, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
---- K@rl (Discus) Mid Abstond hoidn xund bleibn 12:04, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Adding a logo for English Wikipedia

Hi there! I am reposting this from another talk page because I have not received any response there. I am new to uploading on Wikimedia Commons, and I recently uploaded a logo for a company that I was hoping to use on the English Wikipedia article for "Soma Games." I read up on the Common's policies for fair use, and the English Wikipedia's policies for non-free content, Image use, and Logos. I left the information blank on the file page when uploading the image, and tried to use the Non-free use rationale logo template but that just seems to mark the image for speedy deletion.

I think one thing that I am still unsure on... is there a difference between uploading to Wikimedia Commons and the English Wikipedia? Or does the English Wikipedia pull directly from Wikimedia Commons, and all images uploaded to the former site are actually just uploaded to the latter? I don't quite understand how the relationship works between the two sites.

I know that I have probably done something incorrectly in this process, I just do not know what the correct way to do this is. I'm trying my hardest to do it right on my first attempt, so please excuse me if I am incorrect and please assume good faith. Could you please help me understand what the correct way is to upload an image of a [fair-use] logo to be used on the English Wikipedia?

Thank you very much! I really appreciate it! :) --Emitewiki2 (talk) 19:35, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, every project looks first localy on its own wiki for images, and if not found it looks on commons. Try to upload "your" logo to en: please. --JuTa 21:14, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Miniminter abd Bald and Bankrupt license

Andrew012p (talk) 16:27, 5 July 2020 (UTC) Hi JuTa, how do I add a license to the image I already uploaded about Miniminter and Bald? I want to make a CC BY-SA 3.0 licese but how to do it? Thanks, yours sincerely, Andrew012p. Edit, I think I found a license, is it okay now? Thanks :)

Hello. You cannot grant a Creative Commons licence unless you are the original photographer. Taking images from Instagram without a free licence at the source website is not allowed. De728631 (talk) 17:19, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, then how to get the license I don't understand? Public license? How to do that? Help please. Andrew012p (talk) 18:18, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

See Commons:OTRS. Ask the copyright holder, which is normaly the photographer, to release the images under a free license. He has to confirm this by sending an email to the commons support team. Once you know the mail has been sent, you place {{OTRS pending}} onto the files description pages. --JuTa 18:22, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Ah well... i'm not sure he knows about that or will do anything about it. He won't care if the image is here, trust me. But I understand still. Thank you friends. I'm trying to publish an article on miniminter, so an image is obviously important. Then, if nothing else is possible I guess I'll leave the image to you guys. Thanks anyway! Cheers! ;) Andrew012p (talk) 18:45, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

File:Martinus Hortensius.png

Cordialement.--Jacques Mrtzsn (talk) 08:31, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Thx I removed the problem tag now. --JuTa 09:07, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, JuTa. Can you tell me why you removed this photograph? I could swear it was a photograph by the uploader himself (as the reaction on the removal on NLwiki also suggests) – did someone object or claim the copyright, or? Thanks, Eissink (talk) 18:34, 5 July 2020 (UTC).

According the description page the author was Theo Uittenbogaard (and not user:bdijkstra). Ist was marked as no permission on 24.6 by User:1Veertje. --JuTa 18:39, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
Ah, I think that bdijkstra exported the picture by Theo Uittenbogaard, thanks. Anyhow: I see the picture is just re-upped, with OTRS, so all is well. Greetings, Eissink (talk) 18:55, 5 July 2020 (UTC).

Carovinc2 all of the work I submitted is my own and is through the cc 4.0 of canva. I wanted to make it clear. I will upload them to the wikicommons with the correct information at a later date. I am sorry for the lack of clarity. (I am refering to the Helpingsomeoneatrisk and other COVID infographics).

Maybe you should confirm your work through Commons:OTRS to lesser the risk of future deletions. --JuTa 20:38, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Yes. That is how I plan to proceed. I am still learning to ropes of wiki, Wikimedia in particular. Thank you for your help. If I am seeing it right all the infographics have been deleted correct?

I removed that speedy. It is a redirect and we should never delete redirects because files on Commons can also be used outside Wikipedia. And we never know if the file name is mentioned in a school book somewhere. --MGA73 (talk) 06:25, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

Dear JuTa, I noticed that you deleted my picture from my user page at wp.en. Would you please be so kind to put it back? Thanks in advance, IJzeren Jan (talk) 12:12, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

Sorry, there was no source and no author named on the file description page. --JuTa 12:50, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
Can you please undelete it? Obviously, it's a picture of myself that I uploaded myself. IJzeren Jan (talk) 16:55, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
But who made the picture? Obviously not yourself. The copyright belongs to the photographer, not to you. --JuTa 21:21, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
Probably my wife, or my son. I've no idea, really. Honestly, aren't you exaggerating a bit? And besides, before you decide to delete someone's profile picture, shouldn't you at least ask the person in question first? IJzeren Jan (talk) 17:22, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
You was notified about it on 22.10.2019 on your talk page. I will NOT restore this file, but you may like to try an Commons:Undeletion request. --JuTa 17:48, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
There's nothing on my English or Dutch talk page, the only two editions where I am active on a regular basis. And since it was my profile picture at wp.en, you could at least have asked me there. You might want to consider that in the future. Anyway, Schwamm drüber. I do as you suggest. IJzeren Jan (talk) 19:17, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

I see you deleted Category:Seattle Center Exhibition Hall on the basis that it was empty. I have no idea how it became empty: we certainly have pictures in and of the building, including (I believe) some that I've taken myself.

Are you aware of any sane way to work out what happened here, in particular how this category presumably came to be removed from photos? - Jmabel ! talk 20:21, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

I used these pictures from https://archive.org/details/2015.97451.TughluqDynasty/page/n7/mode/2up from the first 3 pages. Please help me out or guide me on how to use them on wikipedia properly. Thank you

Hi, if these images are realy created in1993 as claimed, they are still under copyright and need tp be deleted from commons. --JuTa 14:23, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi JuTa, you deleted the above image from my article and the reason was no permission given. I gave the written permission from the beginning. Can you please let me know what should I do now to put that image back into my article. Thank you for your guidance. Thamilaraci (talk) 00:32, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, there was no indication on the file description page the a written permittion was sent to the commons support team. Please ask on Commons:OTRS noticeboard for this case. --JuTa 00:35, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

New World Cartographic

--JuTa 23:51, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
Zu spät, ich hatte nun Category:Media without a license as of 1 July 2020 abgearbeitet und die Dateien gelöscht.

Hi Admin, i noticed you deleted this file because of licensing issue. However, i believe the file was attributed to Maphill and was fully accredited to © Maphill / CC BY-ND as it demands http://www.maphill.com/license/, as the uploader did. Kindly help out. Thanks. Hi, "ND" licenses are not accepted on commons - see Commons:Licensing. --JuTa 20:04, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, JuTa -

Could you [3] restore? This is a public-domain photo created as part of official duties as a US govt employee (a Pentagon official photo), and by United States law it is a public-domain photo. What is the best way to annotate this on the image? Thanks! Royce (talk) 01:57, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Perhaps, if you can give a a verifiable source. --JuTa 02:45, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
The file metadata includes the valid VIRIN 110210-A-5590K-004, which indicates that this is a work of the US Department of Defense, more specifically an Army employee, produced on 2011-02-10. A few website redesigns and a change in DoD imagery policy between now and then mean that the Commons file, uploaded on 2012-04-14, is the oldest surviving public web source. I did find [4] and [5], of a similar vintage. https://twitter.com/dotMudge/status/1286836637847171073 also confirms the source. We've kept similar obvious DoD official photos with VIRINs at DR before, but if you don't want to restore it I'll list it for discussion at COM:UNDEL. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 03:57, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Then please raise an UDR. I would like to have a second pair of eyes on this case. --JuTa 04:07, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

--Ras67 (talk) 12:30, 27 July 2020 (UTC)

@Thomast48: The concerns raised in Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard/archive/2020#File:Thomas_of_Cana.jpg_OTRS_Violation_suspected were not addressed, so we could not confirm permission for and keep the file. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 03:20, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

@AntiCompositeNumber: the concern raised on OTRS was the following "Its not easy to establish that the Editor of the book Book created the painting. As the following images are available from 2016. Further this image look like a photo of a printed image (not painted) Further, Claim of artist is suspicious as image is existing in the internet with copyright protections Picture on Uploaders/OTRS Book Picture available from Internet"

They state it is suspicious because the image is available online from a 2016 source. The text where the image is from pre-dates the 2016 source and was published in 2010 by the author. Because the authors text is from 2010 this means it is older than the images available online and is the original source.

Please (re)discuss this on the Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard. --JuTa 04:21, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

@JuTa: I have added to the discussion.

Cuirt_Festival_1986_Poster.jpg permission

Regarding https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cuirt_Festival_1986_Poster.jpg I believe I adhered to all the permission requirements by having the author email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org and he was clear that permission was granted as long as he was given credit which he was. Please advise what more I need to do to undelete and avoid future deletion. The image was added to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%C3%BAirt_International_Festival_of_Literature but is now removed.

Hi, the release was not confirmed by OTRS stuff for more than a month. Please ask on Commons:OTRS noticeboard for your case. --JuTa 13:06, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Ju. I'm asking the OTRS staff via the noticeboard as you suggested. Would it be possible to undelete the image while it is being discussed? The image contains some references that verify some of the names listed in the article. --Phogieone (talk) 16:20, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

The OTRS agent dont demand a restore. Please be patient. --JuTa 22:44, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Polly Morgan

Regarding File:Polly_Morgan,_cinematographer.jpg, I had received the photo directly from her in an email, after explaining what I was looking for. I had provided her the link to here to finalize the process. I was not able to tell if she had completed it or not. I assume this means she did not? Can the photo be restored for a temporary period, and I can follow up with her to request for her to finalize the process? I can forward you the email exchange if that will help OTRS approval. Erik (talk) 15:06, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, there was a ticket, but the release was not confirmed by OTRS stuff for more than a month. Please ask on Commons:OTRS noticeboard for your case. --JuTa 15:11, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Okay, I've done that. Thanks. Erik (talk) 15:20, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Actually, can you let me know the ticket number, so I can pass it on? Erik (talk) 15:21, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
The ticket number was 2020032510008438. --JuTa 22:43, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Juta.Could you please restore the following

File:Jesus_ved_den_syge_Pige._Elisa_Maria_Boglino._Tusch_og_Akvarel._Ca.1970.jpg, and File:Den_Barmhjertige_Samaritan._Elisa_Maria_Boglino._Tusch_med_turkis_Akvarel._ca_1980.jpg ...they belong to the article about the danish artist Elisa Maria Boglino, I am the owner of the copyright, and commons have signed papers about this- Arthur Crombez knows about it, and also Jcb , who might not be active anymore. If you have not recieved release mails from please help me to make new ones. I do remember very little about writing in wikipedia so please forgive me , for not doing it wright. I also beg you to look at the other pictures in the article which still not have persmission. I have uploadet all the pictures in that article , and I am the owner of the copyright. Please write Arthur Crbz about it , if he is still active. Thank you.User:HNBS

Hi, there was no confirmation for them by OTRS stuff. Pleas ask on Commons:OTRS noticeboard for these cases. The Ticket numbers were 2019060210001172 and 2018100510004327. PS: You are very likely not the copyright holder, as you are not the painter of those painting. Deletion of files on wikimedia commons

I uploaded the files as part of a wikipedia project of the museum I work for. Could you tell me why the following files were deleted? They're part of the following OTRS-ticket: Ticket#2020031110007018 and are in the process of being verified or were verified. More specific the first three are photographs of objects in the collection of the museum. The photographer made these images in the context of an assignment by the museum and ceded his rights afterwards to the institution.

As the museum is planning to upload more images to wikimedia commons, I would like to know how I can prevent the deletion of files going forward. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Diethard.Vlaeminck (talk • contribs) 12:52, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, the release was not confirmed by OTRS stuff for more than a month. Please ask on Commons:OTRS noticeboard for your case. --JuTa 13:06, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Yes, I could not confirm, because of the precotionary principle and the unknown photographer. There was no explanation about how the Museum became owner of the images copyright, I would like to refer to my two emails from March 18th. Ciell (talk) 16:46, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to clean the backlog of OTRS received templates!!

Deleting duplicate TIFFs

While I get that older files are often kept, I do think you need to pay attention to differences in documentation. With the recent Quo Vadis poster, you deleted the correctly documented one (credited the actual creators of the photo, not the American copyright holder for the movie, who was mistakenly credited as the poster's creator), broke the linkage to the restored version, and made the naming scheme inconsistent.

I get there's benefit in the old one. But when one file's documentation is bot created, and the other had half an hour spent trying to make sure everything was correctly documented and in the right field, and is connected to restorations that took 5 hours, and so on, I kind of have issues. Your merging of the two files' description was literally copying one category over.

Obviously, you mean well. That's a given. But it's basically down to file gets deleted, and then I have to turn the other file into a copy of the old file so that the documention is fixed, and so it's marked with {{Original}} with the link to the restored file - why on earth is that not a template that gets merged? - and, in this case, fix the author to the actual author - who did not appear -, noting the copyright holder, clean up a bunch of sentence fragments scattered around the page in the wrong order...

I'm belabouring the point and am going to stop writing. I'm not angry or anythimg, just a little annoyed, because it's easy to miss this kind of thing in the history, and if you do, a whole lot of work is suddenly lost.. Adam Cuerden (talk) 10:03, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Sorry, which file(s) are aou talking about? --JuTa 10:08, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
File:Quo Vadis - G.C.K.(monogram) LCCN2007676177.tif , although I moved it back to the other name as that's a distinctly undescriptive name. Focuses on what I'm pretty sure is just a "Copyright George Kleine" monogram (it's G©K if anything), and ignores the actual title of the poster. Adam Cuerden (talk) 04:43, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

NB I-75 Marion Co Weigh Station; One Mile

Thank you for deleting the original version of File:NB I-75 Marion Co Weigh Station; One Mile.jpg. As you can see, I've restored it as originally intended, and I'm about to explain why. The intended version of the file is what you see here. However I renamed another one with the wrong name and gave the description you see for it. I considered tagging the file for splitting, but I was afraid the data between the two versions of the file would remain the same, so I cancelled that splitting request and renamed it myself as File:NB I-75 Marion Co Weigh Station; Truck Parking Spaces.jpg, then tried to remove the incorrect name so I could add the version I wanted. ----DanTD (talk) 17:01, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Hallo JuTa,

Also mache bitte die Schablone undelete.

Hi JuTa. Would you mind taking a look at this file? You deleted a file which had the same name a few weeks ago and I'm not sure if this is just a re-upload of that file or a new file just with the same name, but either way this appears to be a clear copyright violation. I think the uploader might somehow be connected to the subject and therefore thinks that means that they can upload photos of the subject on his behalf as long as they have the subject's consent. This might be a work-for-hire, but the photographer who apparently took the photo is clearly claiming copyright ownership on their official website. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:56, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi, its exactly the same image, by the same uploader but with claim author=Russell Ianoue before. Marking as copyvio (as you did) is IMHO OK. Some other admn will likely (re)delete it soon. --JuTa 09:00, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look at this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:17, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
Hi again JuTa. The file linked to above was deleted as a copyvio. ShirleyAnnTempo then basically went and re-uploaded it again as File:Manahan.jpg. I think that this editor probably means well, but that's not a good reason for continuing to re-upload the same file over and over again each time it's deleted. At some point, the editor has to be competent enough to ask "Why is this happening?" and "How can I stop the file from being deleted again?" I've added a {{End of copyvios}} template to their user talk page, but I don't think that will stop them from re-uploading this file yet once again after this latest one has been deleted. It might be time for an administrator to step in and formally warn the account or issue a short block. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:15, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

RE: Carleton University images

Hello,

I am writing with some concern as to the imminent deletion of some historical photographs of Carleton University.

To provide you with context, these photographs were taken from Carleton University's digital archives on the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/search.php?query=creator%3A%22Carleton+University%22, which I was under the impression of being under an open license as they were taken from yearbooks uploaded onto that website. I believe that the usage of this photograph is fair use, given the historical value and public nature of the photographs.

I have taken the liberty of emailing the Director of Archives and Special Collections at Carleton University to request they send an email to release rights for the images in question. I would appreciate a delay on deleting the images until Archives and Special Collections has an opportunity to release the rights.

I will admit that I am relatively unfamiliar with the copyright protocol on Wikipedia, especially around historical images. No one has seemed to walk me through this process, so any clarity you can provide would be immensely appreciated.

Yours sincerely, --Bronwood315 (talk) 19:03, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

As soon as you know that the mail(s) have been sent to the commons support team as documented on Commons:OTRS, please add {{subst:OP}} to the fie description page. This will add {{OTRS pending}} with date paremeters and will give a period of about a month before the image(s) will e deleted if the release will not get confirmed by OTRS stuff. regards --JuTa 19:09, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

Re:Copyright status: File:UHP Prensa Histórica.jpg

Hi, when you cannot find a free license at a source page, then its likely "all rights reserved" and you should not upload it to commons. --JuTa 19:10, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

Félix Huerta y Huerta (1901) cuadro

Hola JuTa:

Recientemente has borrado el archivo File:Félix Huerta y Huerta (1901) cuadro.png

Hi, there was an OTRS-Release running since March this year without a confirmation by OTRS-stuff. I cleaned up some backlogs recently. Please ask on Commons:OTRS noticeboard for this case, as I cannot access the OTRS tickets. PS: The painting seems to me signed in the left bottom cornor, so the author is not anonymous. This might be the reason for the missing confirmation. regards --JuTa 21:47, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

Hola.

Again please talk to the people at Commons:OTRS noticeboard. I cannot access the ticket. And about unknown and not anonymous you would likely wait till 2022 as the period is 120 years - see {{PD-old-assumed}}. regards --JuTa 08:05, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
I now ping User:Regasterios as the OTRS agent working on it in April. --JuTa 08:11, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
