Request for Restoration of a deleted file and Removal of source tag on his another File

Hi I have checked and found the file File:Rehamatullah Khan Durrani.jpg has been deleted by your good self and the other file [[1]] of the page [[2]] has been Taged for source provision other wise will be deleted hence I try to inform the uploader of both files but now the up-loader is no more available, so I have noted that these files are very old and of a Late person who is no more and both files have been uploaded under the licence of public domainhas and this provides protection to the files from unnecessary deletions. In the light of above you re requested kindly Restore the deleted file and remove the Tag about Source category on the other file to avoid loosing the valuable and precious information available for Wiki readers.45.116.233.29 13:48, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi: About the deleted image: It was claimed as own work of the uploader, which cannot be true. An the other file File:Rehamatullah Khan Durrani with Half Brother..jpg needs the decription to be fixed. It wasnt created 2012 as claimed, but when? Nor the photographer was User:Baloch Baba, but who? If that gets fixed the file can be kept. --JuTa 19:17, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for the prompt response, I have objection on the image file you have deleted File:Rehamatullah Khan Durrani.jpg which was uploaded under the public domain Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Pakistan and the other file you have fixed it with the source category , so in the light of above Commons Copyright policy and present scenario when the uploader is no more in the record, and the files uploaded in the 2012 and earlier was smoothly available for the readers and was not challenged on the source provision because I have noticed many files which have no source but the uploaders created those files from their own works due to lack of knowledge of Wikimedia Commons policy and I simply treat it a good work in the interest of general public of Wikkireaders. So you are once again respectfully requested to please Restore the deleted file and remove the Tag about Source category on the other file of the historically famous personality of Pakistan to avoid loosing the valuable information available in the library of WIKIMEDIA COMMONS for Wiki readers. 45.116.232.31 10:57, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

That other problems has not been discovered yet, doesnt solve the problem with that file. Fix it or the file will likely get deleted. --JuTa 13:08, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

So far Nobody has claims these Images, and the Photographer may already Died and I am sure these images are now public property right now, therefore these are still in Commons? however please look the matter in the provisions of {{PD-Malaysia}}, which indicated its could be remains in public domain, on the other hand you may please refer these to the wikki concerns for salvation of the problems instead of Deletion of the files in very easy way, Regards 45.116.232.3 13:46, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

What does Malaysia Copyright have to do with images from Pakistan? (thats the current claim). And about So far Nobody has claims these Images: Please read Commons:Project scope/Precautionary principle. If you have are find reliable sources, authors and dates for the images, please correct the file description pages. Otherwise the files will likely get deleted (not neccesarily by myself). --JuTa 18:44, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

Sorry ironically / mistakenly the PD-Malaysia was typed instead of {{tl:PD-Pakistan}}, I have went through the record of many files and particularly about the files in questions and come to conclution that the most important role of Wiki Editors are is to protect the history and files from unnecessary deletion because Deletion of History is one of the easiest way instead to protect them , however on the basis of NO BODY has Claim so far no one pointed out the said files sine 2012 except your good self, So it is once again to remind you please Restore the deleted file in question and remove the Tag about Source category on the other file by referring the case to someone else editor to work on it for the protections of the both files in question instead of adapting the easy way of Deleting the files / contexts, of the historically famous personality of Pakistan to avoid loosing the valuable information available in the library of WIKIMEDIA COMMONS for Wiki readers, Hopefully the matter will be consider in the largest favour of Wiki readers, 45.116.233.50 11:35, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi somebody else inbetween changed the second file. I now restored the 1st one and modified the description page accordingly. regards --JuTa 13:40, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

Thanks a lot and I wish you all the Best,-- 45.116.232.4 09:59, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello again

I uploaded picture of kings of Malaysia again, with correct method about copyright, please checked it, if it still not allow on Commons, please help by explains correct method, Thank you --GRKMahawangsa (talk) 15:56, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi GRKMahawangsa, I'm sorry, but I dont think there is a correct method for those images. They are likely still in copyright. I now created a deletion request for them. You might try to ask their copyright holder to release the images under a free license like {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}}. If they agree they have to confirm this by sending a mail to the commons support team as documented in Commons:OTRS. regards. --JuTa 18:30, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
Some images were took in when more than 50 years (according to about Malaysia copyright) but was edited by Federal government of Malaysia in 2011, if you think some images which took before 1970 but were edited and uploaded in later (I mean, 5 first images of kings of Malaysia were originally took before 1970 or 50 years ago but were edited and uploaded in 2011 by Picasa, according from those files's properties) is still be copyright since 2011, then you can delete now or waiting when I request for free license, Thanks again --GRKMahawangsa (talk) 19:24, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi GRKMahawangsa, I guess that the edits of the photos by the goverment has their own copyright, so that the latest date applies. If you get a positive answer from the copyright holders, please note that on the deletion request page, and add a {{subst:OP}} to each image description page affected. --JuTa 19:27, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for information, I'll request on government who owned copyright for free license (sorry for previous message)--GRKMahawangsa (talk) 12:17, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

File:Plan Braniewa1635 2020 duży.jpg

Dear JuTa, could you pls restore these two files:

According to information received via OTRS (ticket #2020012910006132) both are scans or photographs of the imprint of the copperplate created in the year 1635 by Conrad Götke (the artist) and Paul Stertzel (a municipal official who drew the street map). The copperplate was commissioned by Swedish troops which occupied the city between the years 1626 and 1635. The original copperplate disappeared at the end of WWII when Soviet troops conquered the city. The history of the work is accurately described on pl-wiki in this article. Shortly said both files are PD. Thanks in advance for your help and best regards Pawel Niemczuk (talk) 02:30, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi Pawel, ✓ Done. Now please complete your OTRS task. --JuTa 05:01, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

2020-01-14 de Vito.gif

Dear JuTa,
I am a quite unexperienced user. I see you changed the Wikimedia Commons page File:2020-01-14 de Vito.gif on 2c February 2020 at 02:17. Is now everything all right? What shall I do to go on using the file?
--Floridasso (talk) 10:51, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Well, the coat of arms in question are not your own work. Please give a source where you got them from and a reason why they can be published under a free license. regards --JuTa 18:23, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
Dear JuTa, these are variatons on my family's coat of arms. The first time it was authorized is some way back (around 1300), then confirmed in 1912 by King Vittorio Emanuele III of Italy to my Grandfather, and again confirmed in 1967 by his Son Umberto II of Savoy to my Father, of whom I am the only heir (i would gladly insert here copies of the authorizations, but I imagine that would require having them uploaded in Wikikcommons). I commissioned this material drawing to be better used on-line. Do you deem that I should give proof of this particular commission? Please let me know.

--Floridasso (talk) 23:02, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Please put that to the deletion request page. I will likely not decide it. --JuTa 06:42, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
Dear JuTa, tank you very much for your cooperation. I am so unexperienced that I cannot find the relevant Deletion Request page. It would be very helpful if you could send me the URL.

--Floridasso (talk) 08:47, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

Its listed on your talk page (User talk:Floridasso), but again here: Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Giacopis. regards --JuTa 09:14, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

Commons:Wiki Loves Love 2020/image list/header deletion

Hey, I created the page with blank content as a placeholder for a future header. The point is to already have it in the pages instead of having to add it manually to 29 pages. Chico Venancio (talk) 13:18, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

Fine, recreate it as soon you have some content for it. --JuTa 13:42, 3 February 2020 (UTC)

Can i correct a lot of filenames in the Category:F. van der Kraaij Collection?

Dear JuTa,

Our paths crossed last year, so i would like to ask you the following:

  • Am i allowed to correct the perhaps 100 or so filenames of the files i uploaded recently in two subcategories of Category:F. van der Kraaij Collection? Silly enough, i put "F van der Kraaij" instead of "F. van der Kraaij" in the filenames...

Ths is perhaps too large a file moving operation to be done without prior consent by a moderator? The images are not yet used in any Wikipedia articles, i think. (These two subcategories are not visible at this time, as they are deleted (temporarily, i hope) for missing OTRS permission it seems. The overall permission was given previously, so there should be no problem.)

Thanks for considering this question, Hansmuller (talk) 13:54, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi Hansmuller, as you have filemover persmissions, you could rename each file using the "move" button at the file description pages. But I would care too much about a missing "." in the file names. regards --JuTa 14:21, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Request restore images

Hello,

On the Wikipedia page https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arturo_Gilardoni two photos have been deleted:
File: Arturo-gilardoni-ingegnere.jpg
File: Arturo-gilardoni-formazione.jpg
because they contain "image within an image". We had already written for the ownership of the images and we write to you again to confirm that the images are our property. The photos come from the book "GIl-story 25 anni (1947-1972)" owned by Gilardoni S.p.A.

How can we restore the photos? We tried to upload the images again by adding the source but it is not allowed. Our user profile is Gil-men87

Thanks for your attention
Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gil-men87 (talk • contribs) 14:26, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi Gil-men87, sorry but these files never got a confirmation from OTRS volounteers and never had a OTRS Template on their description page. I would recommand you ask on Commons:OTRS noticeboard for them. If you have a Ticket-Number please tell them this number. This makes is easier to find your case. --JuTa 16:30, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

About YDPA's images

Hello, JuTa, I received reply from Malaysian government officer, he tolds every pictures of YDPA (Kings) from Malaysia government can be use freely, do you have comment for this? --GRKMahawangsa (talk) 10:38, 8 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi GRKMahawangsa, they have to confirm that by sending a mail to the commons support team - see Commons:OTRS - and naming the free license of their choice like {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}} or similar. Once you know they have sent the mail you better notice that on the deletion request and put a {{subst:OP}} on every image affected. Regards --JuTa 10:43, 8 February 2020 (UTC)

Category:wikimeup deleted

Hi, I'm sorry but my colegous and I needed Category:wikimeup you deleted. The page is part of a scholastic project that involve two or thre hundred of young students (8 to 13 years old). I'm the first but asap the catgeory will have more contributors. Could you restore the Category:wikimeup? Ciao Matteo --Mattruffoni (talk) 09:56, 21 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi Mattruffoni, I stumbled over this cat by working on Special:UncategorizedCategories. I tried to find some sensefull parent cats without success. Then I checked some of the images sorted into it like File:SetProdottoDivisoMCD.png or File:Cristalli di brina.jpg and found no connection to the external wiki (https://it.vikidia.org/wiki/Categoria:Wikimeup) linked on the description page. So I decided to empty and delete it. What is the inteded scope of this category? Can you name one or more sensefull parent categories for it? regards --JuTa 17:04, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
Hi. Wikimeup is the name of a project. In this project quite 200 students collaborate and write entries and page on Vikidia, Wikiversity and wikivoyage, [5] . The images and the category you deleted wil be connected with: Vikidia, wikiversity, for example now you can see in [6] tutorial for middle school students. Wikimeup is a proijct that involves 4 school from primary to the liceo in differente activities. The creation of category wikimeup is the first step. So if you can please recreate. thanks.--Mattruffoni (talk) 06:19, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
OK, and what would be a sensefull parent category for it? --JuTa 06:21, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
Wikimeup is a school project may be middle school would be the right parent category. Tks. --Mattruffoni (talk) 07:08, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
I restored it now, repopulated it, and made it a subcat of Category:WikiProjects. I made it a hidden cat too, because its not a topic cat. regards. --JuTa 18:36, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

My uploads via flickr2com

  • I saw that you detected duplicate files from uploads via f2c and deleted them all. Sorry you had to do that task.
  • Is there any way possible which will allow me to detect whether the file is available on commons or not? as auto-detection seems to be less useful when files are renamed.? or what is the way you are using to detect it? So that I will not upload the duplicates and there would be no need to clean the mess too? thanks QueerEcofeminist "cite! even if you fight"!!! [they/them/their] 05:58, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
Hi user:QueerEcofeminist, I find the duplicates through Special:ListDuplicatedFiles. But then its too late, the dupes are allready here. It seems the the tool Commons:Flickr2Commons is a bit buggy in indicates dupes, see also some sections on Commons talk:Flickr2Commons. The only way I could recommand is to check pre-starting a batch to check if images within in are allready on commons i.e. with google search example. regards--JuTa 07:26, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
Hi user:QueerEcofeminist, I just realize that the google search is not realy working. But a commons search for the flickr number should work i.e. this. regards. --JuTa 18:12, 5 March 2020 (UTC)
user:JuTa, thanks, I will try and ensure that, I won't upload duplicates. Will use google search and commons search to find it before uploading anything. QueerEcofeminist "cite! even if you fight"!!! [they/them/their] 05:24, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Yes, they were binary identical. But you are correct: The older copy should be kept. I swicthed now kept copy and redirect. There are currently hundreds of similar cases on Special:ListDuplicatedFiles and I must have misclicked this one. --JuTa 07:49, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

Lieber JuTa,

Die verschiedenen CC-BY-...

--Bel Bonjour, Ambre Troizat (talk) 16:59, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

Feel free to do what ever makes sense but dont forget to add sensefull parent categories as well. Thx. --JuTa 17:55, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

Dear JuTa, as I am working with 5 projects, I dont have time for "what ever makes sense". I will soon do something but only for "Champ d’asile". Best regards. --Bel Bonjour, Ambre Troizat (talk) 12:11, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

File:Col Reynaldo Mendoza.jpg

Thanks for your feedback. That photo is a bit complicated. It's available online because it's a photo sold on Amazon. The photo was bought by the family of R. Mendoza. However the same photo appears on the book of "association of general and flag officers" (filipinaslibrary.org.ph/biblio/54777/) but resolution of this pic isn't good if I try to take a picture of it (I only have access to the hard copy of the book) - it's old, 1977 and smaller version.

So now I don't know HOW to tag it correctly if I use the amazon link photo publicly available or ask the family to scan the photo and send me for upload, or use what's online but write the copyright of the book photo with reference? Thank you in advance for your suggestions. --Bmaitai (talk) 12:25, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

IM sorry, but there is likely no fitting license tag for it. In most countries everything is protected 70 years after the death of the other. So it must be from before 1950 (or much more), which is not the case for a 1977 work. --JuTa 15:57, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

How do I modify the Harlem Arts Festival poster image file that you said didn't have the correct copyright?

I'm confused as to how I go in and modify the file, since its been deleted. Help!

The file is definitely a public document that is allowed to be used, since it was a poster that was put up, and is clearly on the Harlem Arts Festival website. What do I do?

Looking for any help you can give. Thanks!

(talk page stalker) The publishing of advertisings like this poster does not mean that it is in the public domain, as in "free to use for anyone". On the contrary, this was automatically copyrighted to the designer or the organiser of the festival when it was published, and nobody may use it elsewhere without a permission from the copyright holder. For an upload at Commons, the copyright holder would have to send an email as explained in COM:OTRS, or make a statement at their website that the poster has been released under a free licence. Otherwise we cannot keep it here. De728631 (talk) 02:41, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi Juta, I am wondering how to fix the file I uploaded. I was of the understanding that album covers fell under the Fair Use section of copyright law, as every album page on Wikipedia has an image of its cover art, the majority of which are copyright protected. Did I do something wrong when I uploaded this album cover? Thrakkx (talk) 10:42, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

Fair use is not accepted on commons - see Commons:Fair use. Maybe your local wiki accepts it, try to upload it localy to that wiki. --JuTa 11:19, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

File:Quran logo.png

Hello JuTa, this file deleted under (No permission) reason, but why this file need a permission? it's only (Holy Quran) word in Arabic designed by the uploader! and it used on featured arwiki portal (replaced after your removal). Thanks on advance --Alaa :)..! 19:39, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Well, the calligraphic work looks to be copyrighable and its very likely not own work of the uploader as claimed. --JuTa 19:41, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi. You recently deleted this. There’s still discussion about it on my talk page. I believe the licence posted was valid. Will you please restore the file until we can resolve this? Thanks. Michael Z. 2020-04-02 00:48 z

Hi Michael. Well, it was originally called File:Screen Shot 2013-11-25 at 10.47.11.png, which indicated it was a screenshot of any software used but not the work of the uploader as claimed on the decription page. regards. --JuTa 07:20, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi. I don’t understand. Who was the uploader? If what was indicated was changed was it not because it was corrected?
I don’t seem to have permission to view deleted files on this wiki, so I’m depending on you here. As far as I can tell, I held sole copyright and released it under a permissive licence. Now this this image was improperly deleted before discussion about it came to any conclusion. Please restore it so we can determine the right action. Michael Z. 2020-04-02 15:33 z

Hi, I restored it now and changed it to a regular Deletion request for further discussion. regards. --JuTa 17:52, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

this photo is a Yigal Allon Center. befor you reverting me check youself. -- Geagea (talk) 00:12, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi Geagea, then you should fix the coordinates of it. Currently its located of the northwest coast of the dead sea. I switch it to the corresponding Israel cat... --JuTa 00:15, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
The coordinates comes from Flickr. They might be confusing. -- Geagea (talk) 00:20, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
I changed both now. Maybe you can improve it. --JuTa 00:21, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for correcting the file. But the The more interesting qusten is why there is a category for a term "Palestinian territories" instead of "Palestinian National Authority" or "State of Palestine" which are entities. And why the bot of Rudolphous flooding this category. -- Geagea (talk) 00:41, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
This name came from the Open Street Map API based on the gps the file has. Rudolphous (talk) 06:19, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
@Rudolphous: Actually is was "Palestinian Territory" I changed it to "Palestinian territories" because the is Category:Palestinian territories but no Category:Palestinian Territory. PS: I'm working on Special:UncategorizedCategories I found that same for "Saint Martin", wich should be changed to "Saint-Martin (France)" because of Category:Saint Martin and Category:Saint-Martin (France) or Template:Saint Martin photographs taken on navbox and Template:Saint-Martin (France) photographs taken on navbox. Can you change your bot to reflect this? Thx and regards. --JuTa 07:17, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
Sure, will do. Rudolphous (talk) 07:18, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
I'm trying to avoid involving this but this seems to be weird. We have our own enciklopedia but base our categories on external source. I'm not opposing this category, just a point to your consideration.
Anyway coordinates from Flickr might be confusing. They are imported automatically when using Flickr-to-Commons. Might have a lot's of mistakes. -- Geagea (talk) 11:53, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

2020 / Wiki Loves Earth 2020 in Ukraine Survey

English version below

--AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (обговорення) 20:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi! You are getting this message because you have participated in Wiki Loves Earth in Ukraine before.

Organizers of the contest are holding a survey for participants to decide on whether to hold the contest this year — and when to do it. It seems that holding Ukrainian Wiki Loves Earth within traditional dates in May would not be reasonable because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, we can hold the contest in June or July. To decide, we need your opinion.

More info and the survey can be found by this link. The survey will be open by April 14th.

If you have any questions, contact us at wle@wikimedia.org.ua. Thanks! --AntonProtsiuk (WMUA) (обговорення) 20:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi there! I saw you rotated this image when my bot overwrote the changes. It looks like the way it was uploaded is the original orientation of the work, as digitized by the library that holds it. Presumably it is a single sideways page in an otherwise portrait-oriented work, for space reasons. It would be best if you could upload a new version to change the orientation, so that the original is preserved, because if edits are made to it then the upload script will think the files are out of sync with the source and correct them. Thanks! Dominic (talk) 20:32, 9 April 2020 (UTC)

Well Dominic, your upload script seems to be anyhow a bit buggy. You produced thousends of duplicates which I was working on. --JuTa 00:39, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
How would a duplicate file cause a rotation issue? I am not following. Can you give more explanation? Dominic (talk) 14:01, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
That had nothing to do with the rotation issue. I intended a better visuality by rotation them. But your bot created thousands of duplicate images though Ferbruary and March. Maybe you could relook into your code... --JuTa 14:14, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
I'm sorry that you've apparently been spending lots of time on this. I have never gotten a single notification about the issue, so that's kind of frustrating me as well, if you think it's a bug. I am not an admin and it seems I can't see the deleted contributions, even for my own account, so it's hard for me to look into the problem. Can you send me the list of deleted files so I can look at them? (Maybe a pastebin, since it looks like thousands.) I suspect it is not a bug in the bot, but that the repositories I am uploading might have duplicated in their collections with different names. Dominic (talk) 19:35, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi, when you put
.mw-redirect
{
background-color:yellow;
}
Into your User:Dominic/common.css. You will see any redirects in yellow (or what color you choose).
Then you can check your bot logs looking for yellow entries. --JuTa 19:49, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

File:Eiko Ishioka.jpg

Hello there, to your 'this could be deleted' notice about Eiko_Ishioka.jpg: I really don't get it. Why is it so bad to upload low resolution picture, from her official website, whitch serves ONLY for her recognition. The same picture is on her english wikipedia webside - yes I know, the rules for english are different, but this is really bothering. What is the right aproach then? Should I write to the photograph who took this photo who lives on the other side of the world ' Hey I am nobody from Czech Republic, can I use your picture?'. Really? Do you think someboby gonna be botherd, that her officially presented picture will be used on her wikipedia page? I get the rules, but where is somme common sence. --Halfirien (talk) 15:19, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

The appraoch is to follow copyright laws. By copying from their webpage, you break to copyright of the authors. Any image on commons needs tobe reuseable for anybody in the world for any purpose (like i.e. printing and selling t-shirts or product packaging). compare Commons:Licensing. --JuTa 16:51, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
As I said, I get it, but it doesn't make any sense. This is robotic answer. How could anybody use low quality, small resolution picture of dead designer for making money, I really don't understand how that could be a bussiness oportunity. With music, is posible to show 15 seconds of a song without paying any fees, so why can't be use just for recognition. A small resolution picture...for just showing how someone look like without googling it. And you didn't answer my question. What is the right aproach when I want to show resemblance of Eiko Ishioka on her czech wikipage? Thak you.--Halfirien (talk) 17:19, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
When you think laws does not make sense, talk to a lawyer... And yes, you should write the auther, and ask him if he likes to publish the image under a free license o his choice - for details see Commons:OTRS. --JuTa 17:23, 12 April 2020 (UTC)
Maybe I wanted a human answer, an opinion. But I understood. Goodbye--Halfirien (talk) 18:28, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

Removing a picture by T. Rolke from Ukrainian page

Hi @JaTu: I've just learned about removing a picture by T. Rolke from that page: Вилучив файл Художник_Мирослав_Ягода._Фото_Tadeusz_Rolke.1990.png, оскільки він був вилучений з Wikimedia Commons користувачем JuTa. Причина: No OTRS permission since 2020-02-05. Tadeusz Rolke, the author of this picture, sent his permission to wiki on 05.02.20 (I have a copy of his mail and can forward, if required). So there is no reason to claim no permission. Please fix the mistake and restore the picture. --Yuri Git (talk) 17:05, 12 April 2020 (UTC)Yuri Git

Hello, I learnt this through His English wikipedia Article that you deleted Saint Rampal Ji's Image. I had discussed this at the Commons:help desk that the Original Source of His Image was a Website from whom I had taken permissions to use That on wikipedia. They told me to ask the Website Managent Team to send an email regarding this to OTRS. The process is going on. It is taking a bit longer I agree. Kindly undelete The Image. It is truly not copyrighted. They would be sending an email soon to OTRS as well. Kabirisgod (talk) 17:02, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

PLease ask on Commons:OTRS noticeboard for this case. They will arrange the undeletion if the release is valid. --JuTa 21:49, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

Removing category

Dear Juta, you removed all category tags on my uploads. The category I created is because of a project done by researchers, students, and teachers at Leiden University together with some museums, as well as with people outside of these institutions, the crowd if you will. I created a category so our content creators can track all the commons that we use and that we add to wiki commons and data. If there is any wrong doing in this, then please explain so we can learn. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fresco Sam-Sin (talk • contribs) 19:32, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

The problem was your caterory was uncategorized. I tried to find some sensefull parent categories without success. I wondered why how do these things could "talk", so assumed some none sense edits which is unfornunatly happens often here. For the future try to find some sensefull parent categories for your new creations. Thx. --JuTa 20:29, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi Juta, I was wondering if you could help my provide the "Source of derivative work not specified since 7 April 2020"

The file in question is a list of names that appear in the census pages that were uploaded to wikipedia here:

https://uk.wikisource.org/wiki/%D0%90%D1%80%D1%85%D1%96%D0%B2%D0%B8/%D0%94%D0%90%D0%9A%D0%9E/12/3?fbclid=IwAR1cLNd1FkfoLxXfdjtlywtqZ5KZ4yMlrH8ZJnVgY6n4yG3ceQW2ProqAvM

The census pages were obtained legally from the archives in Ukraine and are part of the public domain. A user took it upon himself to type out all the names found in these pages, which are invaluable for people trying to track down their roots, and index the data.

If you have a moment please explain what needs to be done to provide the source of derivative work and I shall do so.

Best regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmoshev (talk • contribs) 2020-04-22T06:46:15‎ (UTC)

Well, the uploader User:Alexkrakovsky declared it as {{Own}}, which is very unlikely the case. It looked more than copied or scanned from a book. You need to find out which and if it is public domain i.e. because of age. --JuTa 06:54, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi thank you for the response. I'm sorry I'm not completely familiar with {{Own}} means. Alex Krakovsky is leading the project to scan the archives into the public domain. He has had to sue the archives in Ukraine to get access to these documents, and in each case he has won. He has raised funds to get scanners and scan the documents. He has tirelessly scanned and uploaded the revision lists for countless communities into wikipedia/wiki commons so they stay in the public domain. The work he has done for the public domain is frankly heroic. I'm assuming that the the own part of {tl|own}} means that he did the work himself? There is a very large case to be made that the transcriptions of the names found in the documents can be attributed to him.

The document in question was an index of the names found in the archive scans. Imagine you have a book of births for several villages from 1840, all written in handwritten Cyrillic from 1840. All the document in question does type out the family names available in the scans to make it easier for people who searching to find them. It is not an original work there was zero creativity in creating, the information inside is a simple transcription of the information already in the public domain. At most it has been badly attributed. From a google search I know who provided Alex with the document, with full intention that it would be publicly available. I can send you a link, but you'll need a password to the Russian Jewish genealogical forums to see the post.

In either case, it seems attributing it to Alex is fine, if not it should simply be attributed to the public domain.

Forgive me if I have not understood. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 37.142.3.160 (talk) 08:02, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi, you mismatch the term "public domain". This does not mean published to the public, but it means free of copyright. Any image on commons needs to be published under a free license or beeing public domain - see Commons:Licensing. Either the scanned document is old enough to be public domein - this normaly means it author is dead for more than 70 years, or the author or his heirs has to confirm that he is willing to publish it under a free license of his choice. In this case he has to follow the instructions on Commons:OTRS by sending an email to the commons support team. regards. --JuTa 08:09, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for the response. Just so we're clear, 1) Alex is the author right? 2) If yes, does he still need to send a confirmation email, isn't the act of uploading it enough? 3) If no, can I send the email on behalf? 4) If Alex is not the author, can I send the email on the author's behalf. I'm quite sure the person who made the transcription in the forum doesn't use wikipedia. I can provide a screenshot of his post in the forums. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 37.142.3.160 (talk) 09:57, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

1) no
2) no
3) no
4) no, the author has to send it himself. He should have an email address. --JuTa 15:35, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
