Out of scope?

Hello Jeff, what would you do with these? Thanks. Lotje (talk) 09:31, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

@Lotje: I started Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Ghareshiran, tagged most files, and wrote to the uploader.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:17, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

Global ban for Musée Annam ("C" / "Unserafahne" / "Namkhanh02" / "Đăng Đàn Cung")

Maybe it would be wise to start a global ban request for Musée Annam as then the WMF could get involved with stopping his socks (if successful) as they've done this for a number of community global bans. A couple of weeks ago I still had some respect for this user as they added a large amount of good files, but with their uncivilised conduct I don't think that this user should ever be allowed to return. I can't ask for a global ban because I'm not allowed on the Meta-Wiki, but this user's abuse needs to be stopped.

Advertising

Why did you warn AvocetCreative of advertising on Commons? I don't see anything on their edits or filter log that shows promotion. pandakekok9 13:31, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

@Pandakekok9: AvocetCreative appears to be an advertising or marketing firm cross-wiki promoting client Steve Parker, and has been indefinitely blocked for such on enwiki by Longhair.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 22:52, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

My bad

I wasn't aware how that IP range worked until it was explained to me, I just noticed how in Hanoi it's easy to get from range to range and I saw him vandalise a Wikipedia article consistently after a number of long-term range blocks and several admin interventions, note that Musée Annam has been actively socking since 2011 (so a decade already), people have tried almost everything and it keeps failing. He's been posting penis pictures to a woman a decade younger than him on Wikipedia and calling her "Handjob" and consistently nothing worked and eventually the admins had to protect her talk page rather than block IP's. I hope that he will just stop vandalising as he seems to be frustrated.

I didn't mean to come off as ungrateful for you removing those insults from my user talk page, I'm very grateful for that. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 18:00, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

@Donald Trung: Ok.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 22:55, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
@Donald Trung: Re these edits, yes per COM:D#Closure a non-admin can nac keep-close a vandalistic DR after looking at the name and content of the subject. I would use the following without quotes: "{{delh}}" at the top; "----", "<small>(non-admin closure)</small> '''Kept:''' Vandalism. ~~~~", and "{{delf}}" on separate lines at the bottom; reversion of the {{Delete}} or equivalent tag on each of the subject's pages; and optionally {{subst:kept}} on each of the subject's talk pages. "(non-admin closure)" comes from {{subst:nac}}.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:57, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

Help

Hey Jeff G., I'm in need of some help. I'd like to upload this 1977 Public Domain photo of football coach, Bear Bryant, (on the right) from HA.com (https://sports.ha.com/itm/football/bobby-knight-and-bear-bryant-original-photographs-lot-of-2/a/152111-42299.s?ic4=GalleryView-ShortDescription-071515), but I'm having a hard time downloading the photos. Would it be possible for you download the photo of Bryant (front and back), please? Thanks in advance. StrangeloveFan101 (talk) 14:59, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

Will do if need be. I think the way you linked to it should work just fine. StrangeloveFan101 (talk) 23:37, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

Makhufe

Need help can you help me Makhufe (talk) 11:37, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

@Makhufe: Hi, and welcome. What do you want help with? Why are you using Wikimedia Commons?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:14, 11 September 2021 (UTC)

An historic image

Hi Jeff. This image is an historic gem, depicting a stone bridge between two Irish counties. I want to create an article titled "Athlunkard Bridge", but first I want to get this image approved, and you're the right inspector.

Can you please let me know in advance what terms I may not have covered. Thanks MarkDask 22:20, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

@Markdask: I don't see that image on https://memorylanelimerick.com/f765990079 , do you have a more specific page? What can you tell me about the lifetime of the photographer George Imbusch and the dates and countries of photography and publication? Is 1928 a part of that?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:37, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
Apols for delay - will get back shortly MarkDask 19:17, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Category with doubts

Hi Jeff, wondering if you could take a look at this. Since this is the work of a blocked user. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 13:38, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Thank you

for cleaning up my talk page. Orizan (talk) 17:27, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

@Orizan: You're welcome. Much of the problem lies in the "50K" setting in this edit, which I guess you got from User:MiszaBot/usertalksetup when it was still set to 50K. 32K appears to be good for you for now, although my experiences in June led me to lower my default recommendation to 18K.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 01:19, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Request assistance

Greetings Jeff: I notice you've had interaction with User:Gameposo and request you take a look at their gallery of uploads. I see a lot of these are logos, but I also see some that look like illustrated novel pages and others which appear to be derivative and so on. Could you take a look at his stuff? Many thanks. His 300x300 Shinto shrine series seems like copies. Someone else found two of them at other websites. Again thank you. Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:30, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

@Ellin Beltz: Hi again, and thanks for asking. The user has agreed to stop the following unwanted behaviors: tagging with unsupported speedy tags; uploading fake SVGs; and overwriting against COM:OW. They have not yet agreed to stop uploading copyvios. At first glance, they had 550 live uploads (+22 del. but incl. 4 at DR) for a failure rate of 26/572 or 4.5% or 1/22. Looking at their uploads with both Google Images and TinEye (only comfortably doable for me on my laptop): I think your DRs on File:Shintō Gohei.jpg and File:Shinto shrine Gohei.jpg are overly cautious because the nature of the copyright violations is clear-cut; I tagged 4 more copyvios (out of 4 files examined); and I have had enough - the user clearly has no concept of copyright law or COM:EVID, and thus needs some time off from uploading to learn. I have taken the first step with a polite copyvio warning as per COM:BP, but you may feel more strongly given their other transgressions.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 02:07, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
@Ellin Beltz: See also the DRs for some of my speedy tagged files from King of Hearts further down User talk:Gameposo.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 02:28, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
@King of Hearts: The user has had nearly four months to read COM:L, as referenced in this first edit to their user talk page. Is that not long enough? They obviously believe that {{Own}} applies to everything. Perhaps I should have used {{subst:npd}}?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 02:40, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
It's a judgment call at the end of the day. I generally speedy delete images only when I think the chance of saving the image is below 10%-ish. Also, File:Japanese Crest of Katura no miya Yosihito.svg (newly added to the DR) is an image that has existed for over 10 years, so it definitely shouldn't be deleted without a discussion. -- King of ♥ 02:44, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
@King of Hearts: Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Do you have any comments on the rest of this section? Also, keep in mind that the user has 72 invisible edits to Japanese Wikipedia, and in SDC they have 419 times disingenuously "Created claim: depicts (P180): Wikimedia Commons (Q565)".   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 03:07, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Commercial promotion?

Hello Jeff, wondering if you could take a look ad these images. Theyr are all watermarked and might be commercial promotion. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 08:48, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

@Lotje: There seems to be no commercial advantage to those watermarks. Please see User talk:Bonitalh#Watermarks.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:41, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

In use

I cannot speedy delete any file legitimately in use. Draft articles at WP where use is half-reasonable are "in use".  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:41, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

@billinghurst: Ok, but do you think en:Draft:Wes Hightower would survive as-is at AfD?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:48, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
No idea. He didn't start it, he just uploaded an image of himself, which is reasonable—as soon as it gets VRT'd. Plenty of artists do that.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:51, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
@billinghurst: He appears to have written it at en:Draft:Wes Hightower (Singer) and scrubbed his user talk page.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:07, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Not for Commons to decide. If you feel deeply about, create a DR and note that you doubt that article will pass muster, and it will be evaluated at some point in the future. Also cn comment over on the draft at the top with the "AFC comment" template.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:20, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
