Clueless deletion request

Jeff, do you hear? Fourteen files are nominated for deletion under the Uzbekistan pretext, of which only two are definitely from Uzbekistan and location of yet one is uncertain (and in this one case FoP is likely irrelevant), whereas the rest eleven were shot in Russia and Kazakhstan. Should the closing administrator, as well as other Commoners, scrabble in this muck? And this is not a “ru-0” problem because all filenames are in Latin script and most also have English descriptions. Ignominious accuracy for a guy who only narrowly wasn’t elected a Commons admin. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 08:53, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

@Incnis Mrsi: I have withdrawn nominations of three of the files and annotated the rest. Sorry for the delay.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:13, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Have a look

Hi there! Have a look at Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments in Turkmens please. Is everything alright there? --E4024 (talk) 13:35, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

@E4024: It seems to be, why do you ask?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:42, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Post-RfC on music notation files

Hi. If you're interested, the discussion regarding music notation files on Commons has moved to https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T208494, as the RfC was archived without a formal closure. Feel free to comment (if you've never used Phabricator before, you can log in with a MediaWiki account). Jc86035 (talk) 17:02, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Georgia Pinaud

Hi Jeff G

Thank you for responding to my efforts to locate Georgia Pinaud of Lille, France.

M Pinaud posted up various photos via Gafia-Wikicommons some years ago, but without providing proper details about how to find her.

I now need to find her and it's not proving easy.

It may be that Wikicommons cannot help in this, but are you able please to confirm that? It may be in her interests to be found.

Regards,

Robin Stacey Robin323232 (talk) 14:40, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

@Robin323232: just noticed your comment. Is this one of the images you are looking for? Lotje (talk) 15:08, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
@Robin323232: You may also be able to reach her via fr:User talk:Gafia or fr:Special:EmailUser/Gafia.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:10, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

DR

Thanks for that catch. The first file had already been deleted, and the wacky formatting made the second file look like a separate DR. Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 18:35, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

@Pi.1415926535: You're welcome. So can you please focus your attention on File:Ali Mohammad Khademi Family.jpg and wacky formatter / uploader Shkuru Afshar?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:30, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

Signature Notifications on COM:HD

Hello, I have noticed your great work about giving newcomers advices on COM:HD. I appreciate your work, and I would like to suggest that you may want to separate the signature notices (signing your posts...) and your reply comments into two comments, as I found mixing the two comments can be somehow hard to find the main reply comment. Anyways, thank you for your work on COM:HD! 廣九直通車 (talk) 02:55, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

@廣九直通車: Thanks.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 02:58, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

copyright for UN photo

dear Jeff, I have a permission by e-mail from the UN photo department to use this photo on Wikipedia Gervasevernon (talk) 11:28, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

@Gervasevernon: Can you please send that email message with complete, unabridged, raw Internet headers via OTRS?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:30, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

I have done my best to send it as you request Gervasevernon (talk) 11:56, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

@Gervasevernon: Thank you.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:04, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

I recieved an e-mail on Friday 8th which said; Re: [Ticket#2019020810004701] copyright of a UN photo, and wanted my user name. I replied "Gervasevernon". But nothing since. Do I just wait? For how long? best wishes, Gervase Gervasevernon (talk) 19:08, 12 February 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gervasevernon (talk • contribs) 17:50, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

  • @Gervasevernon: Signing your posts on talk pages is required by Commons:Signatures policy. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and a timestamp will then automatically be added when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion).
Were you writing of your sole upload, File:MrsBerensonbyWitkacy.jpg, or something else? Where is the body of that email message? I don't see it in Ticket:2019020810004701.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 20:34, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

No, that file was uploaded years ago and the painting belongs to me; no copyright issue there. I am trying to upload a photo from the UN website with their permission. Obviously - at least to me - I have not uploaded it yet since I am trying to get your permission to upload it. Are you instructing me to upload it, then get your permission afterwards, and, if so, which copyright tag should I use? As for the ticket number, it asks me for a username and password, but I do not know what they are. They do not appear to be my amazon username and password. Help! Gervasevernon (talk) 11:30, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

I have just done thisGervasevernon (talk) 13:26, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

@Gervasevernon: Thank you. You've got mail.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:01, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

The matter is now finished because, The UN photo library having granted me permission, they have refused it when approached directly by yourselves. So, many thanks for your help. The case is closed now Gervasevernon (talk) 14:35, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

@Gervasevernon: Sorry about that.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:51, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

Deletion of one of my files

Hello Jeff G., I wanted to ask, if you can delete one of my own old file which is not in use anymore, because there is already a much better version. If you can help me with this issue, I would send you the relevant file! Thanks in advance! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 21:28, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

@Chem Sim 2001: Sorry, I don't have the right to do that yet. What file is it?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 01:25, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Chem Sim 2001: depending on what kind of files you are talking about, it's possibly appropriate to tag the inferior version as {{Duplicate}}. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 01:54, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: It´s this graphic which I want to get deleted! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 07:42, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Reg, [Ticket#2019021110006961] & [Ticket#2019021110007004]

Hi Jeff,

This in regarding to the tickets : [Ticket#2019021110006961] & [Ticket#2019021110007004] , Pls let me know if the Official Website of the Artist says below as :

© 2019. Deepak Pallikonda. All Rights Reserved.

P. A. Deepak (Adrushta Deepak Pallikonda) is in fact the personal and sole copyright holder of ALL content available here or hosted on this website (including all images, videos, text, and any sound files).

"This website's content has been published under the Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 4.0 license" .

Would that be fine or kindly suggest if the above mentioned lines violates the Sanity of Norms of Wiki.

Pls Advise --Deepak Pallikonda (talk) 12:54, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

@Deepak Pallikonda: No. The original documents and the logos thereon which you photographed are copyrighted by the organizations that created them, not by you. Those organizations exist on the basis of enforcement of their copyrights and the copyrights of their artists and other creative personnel. Do you really think they won't sue you, us, and our reusers for copyright infringement?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:08, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Jeff ,

Pls find the below info : an excerpt from the mail received to me :

3.) (This is by far the easiest, quickest, and most certain option) Provided that you yourself are in fact the personal and sole copyright holder of ALL content available or hosted anywhere on your website (including all images, videos, text, and any sound files), you may add a notice on your website's home page stating something to the effect that "This website's content has been published under the Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 4.0 license" (or a less restrictive Creative Commons license, if for some reason you prefer) and reply to this email saying you have done so and linking to where we can see the notice.

So as per, the Point No.3 of the mail received , I've Posted.

Kindly advise.

--Deepak Pallikonda (talk) 14:05, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

@Deepak Pallikonda: No. You don't hold copyrights to those documents you photographed, and we don't host such photos because we don't allow Fair Use here. If you want to use the files on English Wikipedia, please read WP:F. See also DW and COM:L.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:23, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

OK Jeff,

I shall mail to the Recording Academy and get the reply that they Authorise me to use on my Wiki Page.

Would that be enough for the requirement. Pls let me know.

--Deepak Pallikonda (talk) 14:28, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

@Deepak Pallikonda: No. That would not be enough for us. We need permission directly from them with a COM:L compliant license and COM:CONSENT verbiage confirming that they understand what they are agreeing to, and with a carbon copy to you.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:43, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Jeff G. ツ,

I Shall do what best I can do in this regard as advised and guided by you, and as a last resort, if none of the options left than to delete the files on my Wiki Page, I shall myself take down those images to maintain Code of Conduct & The Terms laid by the Wiki Commons Guidelines.

Furthermore, I would request you to help me in letting me know the timeline(no. of days from today) for the Wiki to take-down the images without the said licenses. As, Im a Grammy Award Winning Artist, I do not want that to happen rather I would myself take-down with RESPECT.

So,Kindly let me know the duration I have to workout for the said procedures in the mail to procure the required licences so that I can allocate my Music Schedules accordingly and work on this.

Thanks Jeff G. ツ,

Regards, --Deepak Pallikonda (talk) 02:51, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

@Deepak Pallikonda: Officially, you have 30 days from the original {{subst:OR}} tagging with Template:OTRS received on 11 February, until 9 March. Also, you don't need to mention or ping me on this page, and you especially don't need to duplicate the styling from my signature without closing the sub and small tags (two times, no less).   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:39, 23 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Jeff, Pls accept my apologies for all what might have offended you, I'm replying on the Commons:ORTS/Noticeboard w.r.t. ticket.

Question

Hi Jeff G ! I am still awating for one more approval about this [[2]] photo I have uploaded yesturday. Actually I need to ask you one question: I made some edits on this photo, so I thought I would resubmit the new one, or can I just reupload it? Thanks again for your help! Asuas (talk) 07:41, 26 February 2019 (UTC)

@Asuas: You may overwrite File:Giorgi Latso Ehrbarsaal2019.jpg, or upload with a different filename if the original might still have some value to someone. Please have photographer Helmut Tremmel send permission for that file in reply to Ticket:2019022510004161 with a carbon copy to you, or reply with a copy of the copyright transfer paperwork from him.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:07, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
Jerr G thanks! I will ask Hemlut Tremmel to send the email to Giorgi Latso's email. Should be specific wording in writing or just confirmation about granting Mr. Latso and me to use this photo in wikimedia commons? thanks! Asuas (talk) 09:16, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
@Asuas: It would be best all of you read OTRS.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:19, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi Jerr G, again. Hemlut Tremmel (Photographer) just sent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org confirmation email about this image (Ticket:2019022510004161), that can be used freely anywhere. Also, he said he did it also via OTRS generator. Please check it and approve it when you can. thanks! Regards, Asuas (talk) 09:49, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
@Asuas: It's Jeff. I found his new tickets and merged them with yours. If a free license has been sent to OTRS, then the file will be tagged or restored automatically when and if the email is processed and approved. Note that OTRS, like Commons, is entirely staffed by volunteers, and, also like Commons, is shorthanded, so it may be close to 7 days before the email is processed and approved.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:06, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks Jeff G. Well, I hope they will approve it soon. Best, Asuas (talk) 10:12, 26 February 2019 (UTC)
