OK, I will translate it. Jeff, may you help me with 2 images we are using in wiki.pt? this one and this one, are they ok? --Felipe da Fonseca (talk) 21:03, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
@Felipe da Fonseca: Thank you for asking. As uploaded, File:Estrato argilo-arenoso.jpg was a copyvio because the author was allegedly unknown and the license was fake. However, I found that it was a duplicate of File:Rock Layers at Quebrada de las Conchos - Salta Argentina.jpg, marked it as such, and replaced the uses of it. Similarly, File:Banco de Réus no Tribunal de Nuremberg.jpg was a copyvio because the uploader claimed authorship and the license was fake. However, I found that it was a duplicate of File:Nuremberg Trials retouched.jpg (or one of the ancestors of it), marked it as such, and replaced the uses of it. I warned both uploaders.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 08:19, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jeff, before creating the template for the museum, you should have waited the ticket to be closed, or at least contact me to check the permission. It would have been wasting your time if all the files were then deleted (and the template with them) because of lack of permission. Consider it for the next occasion.

Actually, the OTRS ticket is not for all the files from the Museum, but for a specific category, so I don't understand to which files to you want to apply the template. Can you please elaborate? --Ruthven (msg) 07:51, 2 August 2018 (UTC)

@Ruthven: I was working that ticket, I'm sorry my lock expired before I finished researching how to make nocat=nocat work to avoid overcategorizing files. I applied that template to all the files in the cat, but three edits were reverted by uploader Jim.henderson because those three photos were not taken by museum personnel. Museum personnel are free to apply that template to their files as they feel necessary.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 08:10, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
In fact, the template is not useful in that sense (sorry!). We use such templates for continuous contributions from an OTRS customer, not for a single contribution. In that case, we can still use the template if you want to tag the contributions from the museum employees (for this one and other categories, and to categorise the files in an hidden category, e.g. "Media files provided by the Jewish Museum in New York"), but without the OTRS ticket. Can you modify the template in that sense please? The OTRSPermission is to be added to the single files, as usual (you can do it yourself or just ping me). I already put {{OTRS accreditation}} in the category page Category:ArtAndFeminism 2018/JewishMuseum. --Ruthven (msg) 08:32, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
@Ruthven: I'm sorry, I was under the impression that @GraceAstrove and Vajiajia would continue to contribute and would use {{JM}} when doing so. I was also under the impression that the ticket gave sufficient permission for a PermissionOTRS template in {{JM}}. If I was wrong, please explain how. I have implemented and filled Category:Media files provided by the Jewish Museum in New York.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 09:25, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
Simply because the ticket was only about a precise event, limited in time, and with files published in "ArtAndFeminism 2018/JewishMuseum" only. It is not a generic permission, and applies only to the files of the photos of that day. There is no hint that the Jewish Museum will continue uploading files in the future, and if they do so, they should send a different permission. --Ruthven (msg) 10:21, 2 August 2018 (UTC)

Question

Hi, Jeff G. can you take a look at [User talk:ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2#File:Little girl wearing a white wedding dress 3.jpg&this]? The user had asked [Revision history of "File:Little girl wearing a white wedding dress 1.jpg" rename of that file]. Imo, this image should be rename because of #2. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 14:24, 2 August 2018 (UTC)

Guerreiro do Vale (talk) 13:31, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

Answering your question from the file retrieval page, look closely at the video: it is old, and the image format is 3 × 4, while my photo is in 16 × 9 format. It would not be like taking a picture of this video, otherwise it would be in bad quality. The file does not load metadata because the photo was taken from another cell phone.

Question about sockpuppets...

Since you're speculating that I'm possibly a sockpuppet, can you explain if you consider multiple accounts on multiple wikipedia language sites to be "sockpuppets" even if named with the "same" username and why you do or do not feel that's "sockpuppeting"? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BLOCKER78 (talk • contribs) 08:55, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

  • Signing your posts on talk pages is required and it is a Commons guideline to sign your posts on deletion requests, undeletion requests, and noticeboards. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and a timestamp will then automatically be added when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). Thank you.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 12:54, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
@BLOCKER78: That would be a global account, which in the case of Special:CentralAuth/BLOCKER78 has 4 attached accounts, not sockpuppetry as concerns that global account.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 12:54, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

… mangling of all typography

It is bizarre to hear from an en.Wikipedian, a regular on a site where discussions are ridden with fancy signatures of all varieties except images and animation. But let’s not look so far. Should this admin discontinue his signature featuring both hard-coded HTML italic and MediaWiki bold? Or are color/span and subscript “annoying” here? What about the signature by this lawyer (and formerly a Commons sysop) having a superscript tag? Jeff’s expected answer is “no, their signatures are good [because they are trusted by the community]”. Surely, it would be reckless to try restrict a Wikimedia steward and initiate lawyering against a lawyer. But then my answer is “don’t deem hard-coded HTML in messages wrong while the same is permitted in signatures”. @Tuvalkin: for your attention too. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 13:25, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

@Incnis Mrsi: Signatures are different. I was writing of the text of your posts.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 13:31, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Would introduction of {{Serif}} help you? But not exactly the Wikipedian variety having font-family hard-coded, but one featuring a [new] CSS class which everyone can disable. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 13:39, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
@Incnis Mrsi: Maybe, I'm not a fan of serifs generally, except the Roman Numeral I.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 13:58, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
FWIW I find the default sans-serif here almost unreadable in quantity, and long ago installed CSS to override it. So I only notice said “mangling” in wikicode; it has no effect on rendered pages AFAIC.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 01:55, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Photo copyright

Hi Jeff, thanks for your explanation of copyright on this picture. I thought I had uploaded it to the commons correctly from Flickr, with the correct copyright info. Could you walk me through how I can fix it? New to this. Thanks!--Akmcquade (talk) 17:40, 24 August 2018 (UTC)--Akmcquade (talk) 17:40, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

@Akmcquade: Please have the photographer of https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10156433636237317&set=a.466795282316&type=3&theater send permission for File:Alejandra Campoverdi 2018.jpg via OTRS and halve your signature.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 17:50, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: But he put it on his Flickr page with correct licensing. Is that not enough? Just trying to understand.--Akmcquade (talk) 18:09, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

@Akmcquade: I find it rather questionable in this case. The Flickr user uploaded on it 7 August but it appeared on Facebook, Instagram and likely other social media in July. It's also her profile image on Twitter. See also Commons:Deletion requests/File:Alejandra Campoverdi 2018.jpg.
There is something I really want to know: how did you find that image on Flickr? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 18:35, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: @Alexis Jazz: I didn't find it on Flickr. I reached out to the photog (Dylan Bartolini Volk) who took the headshots and specifically asked him to post it with the correct copyright so it could be used on Wikipedia. That the principle also uses it as her FB photo isn't related to the wiki update. The photographer was happy to accommodate.--Akmcquade (talk) 18:44, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Request for undeletion

Ringer uploaded image bcl:Ladawan:Abdon Balde, Jr.jpg on June 27, 2009. This guy Balde is my friend and took a picture of him while we were having dinner. Bikol Wikipedia only acquired the SALAMANGKERO (automatic upload) in year 2014, reason why so many pictures (my original works at least) uploaded where not in Commons. The article on the website https://www.facebook.com/legazpicity/photos/a.322941402339/10150306089407340/?type=3&theater could only have accessed from bclwiki as you will notice date of its upload was year 2011. Many of these image files, not transferred to Commons should have been transferred by year 2014 but honestly I simply do not have the leisure time to do this work and our active community is very small. It is not because I am a bull-headed consistent violator of copyrights. I also do not have time to engage in endless discussions on these matters so I just let deletions happen without any remark because I see many that were deleted were "derivative work", but performed before 2014. Anyway, this is the first time I am doing this Request for Undeletion not being very knowledgeable in these matters. Ringer (talk) 03:25, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

BK

As I noticed you had voted support in BevinKacon's LR request, I wonder if you are aware that BK doesn't understand yet the scope of Commons differs from Wikipedia scope. Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:No Muslim Ban Ever (where he even falsely claims only one of the speakers has a Wikipedia article, so I don't trust his research which is vital for LR), Commons:Deletion requests/File:Crank Sturgeon - OEMF 2012 - 01.jpg (does not understand scope), is doling out speedy deletion requests for PD-text tweets because of tiny profile pics nobody cares about at a rate I can't keep up with, edit warred to speedy delete a PD-text logo for which a Wikipedia article exists.

BK does good things too, but I wouldn't trust him with LR buttons at this moment. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 20:56, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
