Thanks for uploading File:Hereward House School Front.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

An unfree Flickr license was found on File:Carrie Symonds Cropped.jpg

Deutsch  English  español  فارسی  français  hrvatski  italiano  日本語  മലയാളം  Nederlands  sicilianu  Tiếng Việt  +/−

A file that you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons from Flickr, File:Carrie Symonds Cropped.jpg, was found available on Flickr by an administrator or reviewer under the license Noncommercial (NC), No derivative works (ND), or All Rights Reserved (Copyright), which isn't compatible with Wikimedia Commons, per the licensing policy. The file has been deleted. Commons:Flickr files/Appeal for license change has information about sending the Flickr user an appeal asking for the license to be changed. Only Flickr images tagged as BY (CC BY), BY SA (CC BY-SA), CC0 (CC0) and PDM (PDM) are allowed on Wikimedia Commons. If the Flickr user has changed the license of the Flickr image, feel free to ask an administrator to restore the file, or start an undeletion request.

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. -- CptViraj (talk) 03:10, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Code issues in User:Berrely/common.js

Hi Berrely, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Berrely/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 4 new jshint issues — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!
  1. ISSUE: line 8 character 9: Label 'SUBST' on iusc statement. - Evidence: {{SUBST:iusc|User:Perhelion/massrename.js}}
  2. ISSUE: line 8 character 18: Missing semicolon. - Evidence: {{SUBST:iusc|User:Perhelion/massrename.js}}
  3. ISSUE: line 8 character 18: Expected '}' to match '{' from line 8 and instead saw ':'. - Evidence: {{SUBST:iusc|User:Perhelion/massrename.js}}
  4. ISSUE: line 8 character 43: Expected '(end)' and instead saw '}'. - Evidence: {{SUBST:iusc|User:Perhelion/massrename.js}}

Counter Vandalism Unit

Hi Isochrone,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons. CptViraj (talk) 03:53, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

If you use the helper gadget, you will find the links next to the search box (vector) or as single tabs (monobook). They are named license+ and license-.

Hello Berrely, thanks for your request for license reviewer status. The request has been closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can now start reviewing files – please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Potential backlogs include Flickr review and files from other sources. You can enable the LicenseReview gadget from Preferences.

Important: You should not review your own uploads, nor those of anyone closely related to you!

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.libera.chat. You can also add {{User license reviewer}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! --- FitIndia Talk 13:46, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi Berrely, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Update request

Hello.

Can you update File:Rail transport map of Turkey.png, File:Rail transport map of Turkey-m.png and File:Rail transport map of Turkey in Turkish.png?

These three maps need to be updated, because the Konya-Karaman high speed rail line was opened on 8 January 2022. The latter two maps are duplicates of the the first and original map, and all three maps are widely used in Wikipedia articles.

None of the original uploaders of these maps are active in Wikimedia Commons; hence why I asked you.

My request COM:GL/I#Rail_transport_map_of_Turkey_maps was transferred to COM:GL/M#map-request_in_illustration_workshop.

Here is a source and other maps from Wikimedia Commons for reference:

I think these files are in the public domain.

I believe that File:Ultraviolet (software) wordmark logo.svg, File:Ultraviolet (software) bright wordmark logo.svg, File:Ultraviolet (software) icon logo.svg and File:Ultraviolet (software) bright icon logo.svg, which you uploaded, should have the {{PD-textlogo}} license instead of CC0, as they're simply text and geometric shapes.

Correct me if I am wrong. I am sorry for bothering you, --QuickQuokka [talk] 18:59, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

QuickQuokka, it makes no difference, both are PD regardless. Feel free to change it. — Berrely • TC 19:22, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
@Berrely: Oh, OK, I'm sorry.
Again, I'm not 100% about this, but isn't CC0 still technically copyright?
In the legal code, it says:
  • Section Ⅰ: A Work made available under CC0 may be protected by copyright and related or neighboring rights ("Copyright and Related Rights")…
  • Section Ⅱ: To the greatest extent permitted by, but not in contravention of, applicable law, Affirmer hereby overtly, fully, permanently, irrevocably and unconditionally waives, abandons, and surrenders all of Affirmer's Copyright and Related Rights and associated claims and causes of action…
QuickQuokka [talk] 19:39, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
QuickQuokka "unconditionally waives...all of Affirmer's Copyright" means public domain (It's confusing I know). — Berrely • TC 19:40, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
@Berrely: Again sorry, but I think it means it's only public domain when it's applicable: "To the greatest extent permitted by, but not in contravention of, applicable law…" and also section Ⅰ still applies.
And according to the CC website, "owners of copyright- or database-protected content to waive those interests in their works and thereby place them as completely as possible in the public domain" and "Unlike the Public Domain Mark, CC0 should not be used to mark works already free of known copyright and database restrictions and in the public domain throughout the world." QuickQuokka [talk] 19:57, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
Feel free to change it. It's copyrighted to the UK, which has a much lower TOO, so I thought this would be better. — Berrely • TC 20:17, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
Well, it would be better, I agree, but the Wikimedia servers are hosted in the USA, so I think it should be like this. QuickQuokka [talk] 20:19, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
@QuickQuokka Commons requires a file to be free of copyright in its source country and the USA, but it's fine, just replace it. I've already released my contributions to the files under PD — Berrely • TC 20:21, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Hi @Berrely! I've noticed you created subtitles for VOA's video "Mixed Feelings on the Russian Side of the Ukraine Border…". Thanks you so much! Good job! I edited them a bit and I am also curious to know which program or online-tool you've used to create those subtitles? Thanks a lot in advance! — Pacha Tchernof (talk) 20:09, 27 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi Pacha Tchernof! I used the program "Subtitle Edit" to create my subtitles, and tried to follow the BBC Subtitle Guidelines. Apologies for the weird text in curly brackets, SRT uses these to denote subtitles should be moved, but clearly MediaWiki doesn't support it. — Berrely • TC 07:17, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
