Files you uploaded may be deleted[edit]

The files listed below, which you uploaded, have been tagged {{OTRS pending}} for more than 30 days. This tag indicates that an email setting out permission to use the file was sent to the OTRS team. Unfortunately, we cannot find any record that such an email has been received, and accordingly the file remains without permission. Unless the OTRS team receives evidence that permission has been granted within 15 days of today's date, the file will be deleted. If you have already sent the permission, please re-send it to "permissions-commons@wikimedia.org" now. Please quote the file name in your email. Hungarian images[edit]

Hello. The problem is that many of those images do not have all the necessary information (source/author/date) on Hungarian wiki. I do not know HUWiki's image policies, but on the commons, we need to have that information, or at least a very good estimate, before we can be pretty sure the images are truly free use. Can you help me get that information, please? -- Avi (talk) 15:56, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm a contributor of the Hungarian Wikipedia. Where are the problematic images? Maybe I can help you taking informations. --Beroesz (talk) 09:20, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content, Equine locomotion, was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. Otherwise, consider an alternative outlet. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
  • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
  • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
  • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
  • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
  • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

When moving a file ...[edit]

Gday Ineuw. When you move a file, like you did at //moved File:PSM V71 D052 One of the most active volcanoes kirishima yama in south of japan.png to File:PSM V71 D052 One of the most active volcanos kirishima yama in south of japan.png: Spelling error)// that when an image is linked, it is also important that you utilise {{universal replace}} template. Place that request at the relevant section of User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands so that an admin will place the command and the file can be updated, especially at Wikisource.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:12, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks for the instructions for universal link. I vaguely remember that something happened at the time, but exactly remember what. Otherwise I always replaced links - but it's not an excuse. Thanks for the help. - Ineuw talk page on en.ws 05:08, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
You now have move rights, however, if you are going to use them, them an attention to detail is required. In the logs I see this ...
(show/hide) 23:18, 15 September 2012 (diff | hist) . . (0)‎ . . m File:PSM V87 D046 Ratu epele head chief of fiji in 1899.png ‎ (Ineuw moved page File:PSM V87 D046 Fijian chiefs council.png to File:PSM V87 D046 Ratu epele head chief of fiji in 1899.png: More accurate description) (top) [rollback: 2 editsajax]
If you do not wish to manually undertake the renaming at sites, then please review the instructions at User:CommonsDelinker/commands and place your request for a replacement command. The reason that I mention this is that someone has deleted the redirect for the file, and that file name was removed from all links at sites, eg. enWS. In this case I have fixed the issue.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:06, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, and how are you? It was I who moved the file, as well asked for the deletion of the redirect. In both instances, I checked "What links here", as well as the bottom of the pages for their usage links and it showed nothing. Either, I missed something, or there was something wrong with the link, like a delay in refresh and didn't see anything. I've learned to check usage, and do so at all times. But, thanks for the reminder. — User talk:Ineuw 00:32, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
P.S: Just realized what I did wrong. I looked for links AFTER the move and by the it seems to have been too late. Sorry. — User talk:Ineuw 00:46, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to copyright
File:Pierrette Venne.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Hi Ineuw, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

-- Rillke(q?) 11:19, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the rules and will follow them faithfully from here on. — Ineuw 12:52, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ineuw, if CommonsDelinker currently works, you can always use Move & Replace or Move file and replace all usage (in the template, which should do the same). This ways you avoid having to add the request manually to the delinker. This will also try to update file usage immediately, double-redirects are resolved and the correct file extension is used automatically. You'll see that it does a lot after you clicked on proceed. Thank you. -- Rillke(q?) 15:35, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you gave http://archive.org/details/twentiethcentury00wriguoft as the source for File:Tcitp d068 shanghai shortly after opening the port to foreign trade.jpg. Do you have the page number ? I find the image rather strange, as Shanghai is not really mountainous (and was opened to foreign trade much earlier than 1908). --Zolo (talk) 09:35, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Here is the link to the page on Internet Archive, and here is the link to the Wikisource project page where I spend most of my work time in case you need to contact me and want a quick reply. — Ineuw
Thanks, though I have no idea who this "Piqua" is (I also found the same image at http://www.brunias.com/china.html with a different reference...). --Zolo (talk) 16:24, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I couldn't help you with "Piqua". In this WS project I am only uploading the images for another editor and know nothing of history of these printed series. As for your above link, I find it interesting how people make a living - extracting images from PD material and reselling them. :-) — Ineuw 22:07, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Glossary PSM Pictures[edit]

Hi, I like very much some of these PSM pictures / diagrams. Thank you, for setting them into Wikimedia commons. But could you also include a glossary with pictures like eg. File:PSM V19 D060 Cone of eruption over time of vesuvius.jpg, so that it would be possible to know what the letters in the drawing mean like a=, c=, etc.? Thank you.Reykholt (talk) 15:13, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The images are part of the Wikisource Popular Science Monthly project and the image number indicates the volume and page number where the image is inserted. Links to the articles exist on all image pages here in the commons. Unfortunately, I haven't the time to recreate existing and easily obtainable info. — Ineuw 16:01, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

That's however is the only from scanning through the first 1000 or something like 64,000 files. This will need a community effort ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:17, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@ShakespeareFan00: Thanks for sharing this, but obviously I will not undertake to do so many. There is a limit, and I am content with my list. That's more than enough to fill my plate. Furthermore, you are a very capable editor and I am sure you can undertake doing some by yourself rather than spend your precious time finding work for others.— Ineuw talk 14:27, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's plausible, Except being UK based I can't remove notices :( ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 14:49, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@ShakespeareFan00: Got it. But, my problem is that I am unable to get to my PSM proofreading on Wikisource. I spent nearly five years doing away with most of the technical demands of the PSM project, just so that I can proofread and read. What I undertook as a diversion and provide occasional help, became a full time + occupation.— Ineuw talk 15:21, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Code issues in User:Ineuw/common.js[edit]

Hi Ineuw, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Ineuw/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 2 new jshint issues — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

File:A Hundred and Seventy Chinese Poems (1919).djvu has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:IrfanView Logo.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

@JuTa: Please read my lips: I did not say that "the image had a licence." I said Irfan Skiljan filed an OTRS. Since there is a 14 to 30 day OTRS backlog, I think you should give it a chance, but if the commons feels that the image should be deleted, so be it.— Ineuw talk 20:07, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I removed "no license" tags for OTRS pending images in the past myself, but got convinced by other users that any image needs a license as soon as possible. Please see User talk:JuTa#OTRS Pending and Commons:Village pump/Archive/2015/07#Policy clarification needed for images with OTRS pending but no license. regards. --JuTa 20:16, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
PS: If you know under which license the copyright holder likes to publish the image, just add it and that problem is solved. If not, try to ask him. regards. --JuTa 20:18, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Category discussion warning

Category:Compression_engines has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Pay attention to copyright
File:A Russian Lady practising a technique of Meditation.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation.

@Billinghurst: Hi. I posted the topic in the village pump, since I wasn't renaming anything just re-organizing the logos into one category and plan to make the old category name a redirect. The logos' categories had to be checked manually for unrelated categories, and I added to the logos the publisher's company name wherever it was missing. Code issues in User:Ineuw/common.css[edit]

Hi Ineuw, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Ineuw/common.css. Glad to see you coding in css! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new prettyCss issue — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in css writing for help.
