Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 13:37, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Depopulating categories[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you depopulated Category:John Charteris (British Army officer) and Category:Philip Sassoon with these edits.[1][2] Can you please explain your intention here or was this a mistake? From Hill To Shore (talk) 23:14, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I am so sorry, that was definitely an accident. Either my computer or the site has been doing this weird thing where sometimes if I move or enter a certain category with HotCat it will sometimes not go through (or cancel out if I accidentally add a category that's already there). I thought I'd caught all the times that had happened but apparently not. I'll double check more thoroughly in future. ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 03:01, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Old friend is back[edit]

Dear Iamthecheese44, You are returning to a familiar pattern: changing category names without prior discussion. Could you please first propose your changes on the talk page of the category in question? Vysotsky (talk) 17:25, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I assumed that since the naming conventions I was following for the pages are fairly consistent among royal pages (throughout multiple royal families and across generations) that it had already been discussed. I also have not seen any active discussion pages on just about any (and I only say "just about" because though I have looked for them in the past, it's possible I missed something or may have forgotten) for any of the categories I have ever edited, even those that have undergone moves in the past (and if any of those did have active talk pages I don't recall them discussing the prior move). I'm also not sure what you mean by "a familiar pattern", seeing as I don't believe I have made a habit of changing things without discussion in the past, unless the category name was blatantly erroneous grammatically, which I noted in my edits. I certainly don't believe I have ever been spoken to about this before. I have added categories, but moving pages is something I've only started to do relatively recently. Perhaps it appeared to be more of a habit given I'd made multiple moves for a few pages' "by year" subcategory within a relatively short period of time. I apologize if I have caused any trouble or offense, but your accusation seems to be slightly unfair in its suggestion that I make a regular habit of this, and that this "habit" doesn't apply to multiple (perhaps a majority) of users across Wikimedia. Having said all this, I again apologize for any inconvenience, and will make proposals for moves in future. ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 18:53, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Princess Margaretha of Sweden and Norway in 1900[edit]

Should this category have Babies (female) of Sweden in 1900, Babies (female) of Denmark in 1900 or Babies (female) of Norway in 1900? Same question applies for Trade (talk) 08:56, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Great work[edit]

Thank you for all the excellent work like this which you have been doing on categories. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 13:33, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Helen Keller categories[edit]

You are removing several pieces of media from "Helen Keller in [year]" categories and then not putting them in any category that is navigable from Category:Helen Keller. Please be more careful. —Justin (koavf)TCM 11:28, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the only ones I've removed are TIF images with corresponding and linked JPGs, which I believe are supposed to be placed in the category "LC TIF images with categorized JPGs" or "NARA TIF images with categorized JPGs", to prevent visual duplication in categories. ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 11:31, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jacqueline Bouvier[edit]

Hello. Thanks for doing good work on populating Category:First Ladies of the United States by year. I noticed that you renamed a few categories related to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, such as this diff for example. I'm really not convinced by this rename. Is there a consensus that we should go with the name people were using for the year in question rather than the name they are most known by? Are you planning on doing this for all married women who took the name of their husband? Cryptic-waveform (talk) 13:47, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted the category moves. In the future when moving categories, please use the "Move" button (top-right under the "More" tab). Doing it this way preserves the history of a page. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 12:34, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Aubrey Plaza[edit]

I'm guessing you know what you are doing here and intend to create the category into which you moved my photo, but do we really have enough photos of Aubrey Plaza to merit splitting them into "by year" categories? I wouldn't think that was in order if we are anywhere under about 200. - Jmabel ! talk 22:01, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I've created all the categories into which I moved the photos. I'm not sure if there is a cut-off for moving photos into "by year" categories, but I will say Aubrey Plaza has many more photos than some "by year" categories I've seen (not including ones I have created myself). She has 39 in 2012 alone. On the other hand, I do find "by year" categories useful for more efficient categorization. ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 00:57, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Category discussion warning

Photographs of Wilhelmina of the Netherlands has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

JopkeB (talk) 14:37, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

At Category:Things named after Woodrow Wilson, I reverted you with an explanation. You then reverted me without an explanation. What is the rationale for your edit and/or the objection to my reverting it? - Jmabel ! talk 16:03, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize, I didn't realize that it had been reverted. I don't think I received a notification for it being reverted and I just forgot that I'd already moved the category previously. I deal with a lot of categories and so I just thought it was one I hadn't moved yet. My main goal was to declutter the page. Reading your explanation, I see your point and will leave those categories link to the main subject page in future. ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 16:28, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'll also listed the subcategories obviously. I don't think you would want a separate notice for each one. Ricky81682 (talk) 03:02, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disappearing Charlotte[edit]

Hello! I'm trying to understand why you would want to move several images to categories which have not been created such as here, resulting in the existence of a category for Charlotte, in this example, through which photos of her by year however cannot be found. Seems to do more damage than good. I mean I think we are supposed to help users find images by creating accessible categories and subcategories, not hide images from them. What am I missing? --SergeWoodzing (talk) 19:16, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, my plan had always been to create the categories but I began having some issues with my internet. The issues are taken care of now and I've gone back and begun creating the categories. ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 00:31, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for explaining. Best wishes, --SergeWoodzing (talk) 17:31, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

April 2023[edit]

Hello! You are at it again here (see previous section) and I must now emphatically ask you to stop doing this. It does a lot of damage to this project. (Of less importance is the fact that the former Marshall Bernadotte was Charles XIV of Sweden but Charles III of Norway, not XIV of both.) --SergeWoodzing (talk) 15:49, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please create the new categories immediately when you have linked to them! --SergeWoodzing (talk) 15:51, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for addressing this issue! I hope to see your continued diligent attention to it. Best wishes, --SergeWoodzing (talk) 11:26, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Back again[edit]

Can't get enough, I guess. "Renaming categories" is your middle name. Needless to say: I think this is a waste of time. Vysotsky (talk) 21:53, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Much harder to find images[edit]

Hello again! Has it ever occurred to you that what you are doing "by year" can make it much harder to find a good photo of someone? Yesterday, one could browse through one large category looking for a good photo to use for Emil Eikner. To do that today, one must browse through 18 categories with photos of him "by year". How is that helpful? Fortunately, he and Princess Marianne Bernadotte, of whom I have contributed most images for both, also have galleries. You should create a gallery whenever you do that. SergeWoodzing (talk) 12:06, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good evening! You can't create additional categories around the world to shrink a child category Category:Royalty by name by year and Category:Monarchs by name by year? MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 17:37, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sport personalites[edit]

Good evening! Could you categorize sports personalities by country in Category:Cyclists by name by year, Category:Lugers by name by year, Category:Racecar drivers by name by year and Category:Tennis players by name by year? MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 06:00, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dmitriy Pavlovich of Russia[edit]

Hello Iamthecheese44, can you take a look at Category:Dmitriy Pavlovich of Russia by year, the ISIN seems weird. Thank you so much for your time. Lotje (talk) 13:35, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
