Regarding King Kirti Sri Rajasinha's Photograph

Good Day to You !!!
Hii INeverCry,Why did you delete this -> Commons:Deletion_requests/File:King_Kirti_Sri_Rajasinha.jpg Photograph,I don't think its fair reasonable,See this,this is its Uncropped Version -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Painting_at_Kelaniya_Raja_Maha_Vihara.jpg
Thanks :) MediaJet talk 14:08, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

My reason was/is as follows: Painting is by author who died in 1975. No FoP in Sri Lanka (Commons:Fop#Sri_Lanka). INeverCry (talk) 18:01, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Question

Hi INeverCry. Just curious, did you actually read my email before calling it "abusive" and blocking my email access (as well as blocking me from editing, and revoking my talk page access)? Thanks ~ DanielTom (talk) 17:52, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

I received an email from a fellow administrator stating that you were sending abusive emails to him. Had that been all, I may have asked for forwarding of the email/s, but I also took note of the en.wiki SPI, and the globally locked alternate. All of this taken together made you look like a dangerous account/user. INeverCry (talk) 18:09, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
So you took his word by faith and, without reading my email, called it "abusive" and blocked my email access. Is that what you're saying? ~ DanielTom (talk) 18:24, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
I took several factors into consideration. INeverCry (talk) 18:34, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
You said my email was abusive, yet didn't read it. Was it Cirt who "reported" me, lied about my email, and asked you to block me (which you did)? ~ DanielTom (talk) 18:39, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
I would've found it very difficult to discount the claim of email abuse from any admin because adminship is a position of trust. Perhaps I should've asked for forwarding of the email/s; If something like this is brought to me again, I would do so, though I hope I don't see another situation like this, as I've never liked to see problems amongst editors. In any event, I would hope that this issue/problem with Cirt is in the past. I'm sure you'd both rather be doing many other things. INeverCry (talk) 19:01, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
I sent one very polite email to Cirt, which was directly relevant to Commons, and constituted no abuse. Cirt had nominated a picture uploaded by my brother for deletion, and claimed that his account was my "sock" (an argument which, besides being false, was also obviously invalid for that discussion). In my email, I pointed out—
"DiogoTome" is the account of my brother. You can tell by his name: Diogo Tomé. (We live in the same house, so of course the IPs should be the same.)
Cirt then decided to open a SPI investigation on Wikipedia, based on this information, but without ever mentioning it. (He knew my brother had sent weeks before an email to ArbCom with proof of his identity, including his ID, and that its "findings" that we edit from the same house were not only expected but also absolutely trivial, but never mentioned it.) [Incidentally, I first created my account (with my real name in it) in late 2012, but my brother created his account (with his email and also real name in it) in 2009.]
Now open your eyes, and see this. You see, Cirt also dishonestly requested that a SPI be open by email, just like he did with you. He works behind the scenes, and wants other people to do his dirty work for him. So, yes, you should not trust everything you hear from other admins, especially when they have a clear agenda against an editor. I do hope that next time you can behave like a responsible admin, and not accuse others of "abuse" without first confirming such serious accusations beforehand, and placing them on someone's block log forever. And why you revoked my talk page access, thus making it impossible for me to respond there (let alone appeal my block), was (and still is) completely beyond me. Have a nice day. ~ DanielTom (talk) 19:34, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, dear INeverCry! There is a good reason to believe that WTkll999K = indefblocked vandal Shes192. First, he registered 1 days after the block Lq12. Secondly, this user uploads the files on related subjects, and suspected of copyright violations. Аnd finally, unregistered user 176.192.166.199 added this image, and now this IP blocked in ru-wiki as the range 176.192.128.0/17. Сan you block WTkll999K and 176.192.128.0/17? We have the OTRS sorted on this image now, I think. See: Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard#File:Gilbert_LaFreniere.jpg. Is it easier to undelete or re-upload and have OTRS apply a ticket #? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Canoe1967 (talk • contribs) 14:47, July 22, 2013‎ (UTC)

I just need confirmation from an OTRS member that the ticket is now valid in order to restore it. An OTRS member could also post a request at COM:UDEL if I'm not around. INeverCry (talk) 02:40, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

These Flickr images

I believe all these images by this uploader are unfree. When a flickr source is given, the license is NC or ARR. But she often does not give a flickr source sadly. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:45, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

I've tagged the Yann Pelcat images as no source. The rest of this user's uploads look suspect as well, especially File:Cadran solaire 1797.JPG, which has identical Yann Pelcat EXIF, but is labelled own work. I'm tired at the moment, but tomorrow I'll look into a mass DR or other appropriate action regarding this user's uploads. INeverCry 01:23, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

Then I found the archived page, so you restored the file. We have the same problem with File:David williams 2010 WSOP day1c 2.jpg; if I remember well, It was uploaded from lasvegasvegas. I would say no. Both images are from the 1st day of the 2010 Main Event and look to be by the same photographer according to EXIF - Nikon D700/Zoom lense/etc. Archive.org states "unless materials are under existing copyright and said materials are the property of their respective copyright holders." The author of both images seems to be Joe Giron, as his name is still in the blog image EXIF, and so his permission would be needed to host either of these images on Commons. INeverCry 16:34, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi INever, did you do a checkuser before bloking this account, here says that it isn't a sockpuppet. Regards!!! Ezarateesteban 22:36, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, this account is on the same range and was created within a short time of obvious Yair Mesa socks. The other factor in my block was that this account's only upload was a copyvio Medellin map, while Yair Mesa's MO is uploading Medellin-related copyvios. I trust your judgement though, so if you don't think this is a sock, let me know, or feel free to unblock and untag/delete the account's userpage. INeverCry 22:49, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

I am not that firm in what is needed to do here, but User:Xiornik regularly uploads modified pictures (with Upload Wizard, like File:Vincent van Gogh - Roses (Modified).tif), claims them as his own work and says they are cc-by-sa. Special:Contributions/Xiornik

I am not certain what to do here. The works are clearly not "his own", the derivate work/retouching is. I tried to correct it with File:Carl Jutz - Ducks on the Pond2 (Modified).tif, but I don't know, if this was what is commonly expected.

Hi INeverCry,

I was patrolling the AbuseLog and came upon QBGP, an account for advertising (please set eh user page). Could you take a look, as I think it violates this policy. Best. WorldTraveller101 22:12, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

I deleted the userpage. We don't actually have a username policy here, only a proposed policy. I usually only block company named accounts if it's a full name and/or the account's edits are purely promotional. It looks like QBGP has also uploaded a good guitar pic, so I've left the account live for now. INeverCry 22:59, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Rollback Criteria

Hi, what is the rollback criteria on Commons? I have rollback rights on English Wikipedia and would also like to be one here. Jianhui67 Talk 05:52, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

See Commons:Rollback. I would generally want to see atleast 500+ edits, autopatrol (or a user trustworthy enough to qualify for autopatrol), and some work reverting spam and vandalism. INeverCry 06:07, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Is 50 blatant reverts enough with warnings? My request on English Wikipedia was approved when I have 900+ edits. I too have reviewer rights there too. Jianhui67 Talk 10:48, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
50 would be good enough for me. INeverCry 16:12, 9 August 2013 (UTC)
Finding vandalism here is not as easy as in English Wikipedia. I can find a lot of vandalism edits there in 1 day. I can barely find one here in Commons. Jianhui67 Talk 09:57, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Requests for this right on Commons are very rare too. I would suggest patrolling new pages in all namespaces, especially file/file talk. Now and then vandals pop up, like this one who made me do about 50 rollbacks in a half hour or so. INeverCry 15:43, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
In English Wikipedia, there are 4000+ rollbackers, excluding administrators. Here, there are only 200+. It is way easier to become a rollbacker there. But here, it is much harder. There is no {{Subst:uw-vandalism1}} and {{Subst:uw-delete1}} warning templates here. Mind if I create them here? Besides, Twinkle isn't available here. Undoing a lot of vandal's edits is going to be tedious. On English Wikipedia, I use a couple of anti-vandalism tools like Twinkle, rollback, STiki and Huggle. If you go back there now, you still have your rollback, reviewer, autopatrolled and file mover rights there (I don't want to seem like I'm forcing you to return). But we are unwilling that you desysopped there. You have been a very good contributor there. I'm sure that they will appreciate your efforts and what you did for Wikipedia. By the way, thanks for your idea on rollbacking. Jianhui67 Talk 17:58, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Most of my dealings with vandals and vandalism here are at AN/V. Copyvio is the main issue here, while spam is another big issue. We have a considerable problem with spambots, which is what I spend alot of my time on. Vandal warning templates sound fine to me though. I have no plans of returning to en.wiki any time soon, but I appreciate your kind words about my contribs there. INeverCry 18:47, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Can you help me to check how many decent reverts I have now? Thanks. I'll create the vandal templates soon. All vandalism, deleting, disruptive, image spam, link spam etc from level 1 to 4. Some to 4im. Jianhui67 Talk 02:28, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

It looks like you've made a decent start. INeverCry 04:11, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Created warning templates too. {{subst:uw-vandalism1}} to {{subst:uw-vandalism4im}}. Jianhui67 Talk 04:23, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
I must have misunderstood your intentions. I thought you were talking about creating 1 or 2 templates related to vandalism or disruptive editing in general on Commons. The whole set of Wikipedia templates you've created may be a problem. Commons doesn't deal with things in a level system as Wikipedia does. We don't usually warn a user more than once or twice for vandalism before blocking. Use of those templates you've created would have to be discussed first at COM:VP or in an RFC. INeverCry 05:09, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
Oh I did not realize at first about my mistake. I'm very sorry for what I did. I want to help Commons in creating those kind of warning templates, but not realizing that I was actually making a mistake. I actually copied and pasted everything from Wikipedia warning templates, forgetting to change them to Commons. But will I be allowed to keep those templates? Jianhui67 Talk 10:06, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
That's ok. It's mostly my fault for not being more clear. We already have the following vandalism templates for Commons:
You would probably be better of having the ones you created deleted using {{Speedy delete}}. Or you can just tell me to delete them here if it's ok with you. INeverCry 16:58, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
What if the edits did by the vandal is obvious vandalism and does not look like editing tests or delete content out of pages? Wouldn't those warning templates be useful? Jianhui67 Talk 23:08, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
"Test" is just the base name of the above set of templates. These can be used to warn users in any cases of vandalism. INeverCry 23:12, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
Oh sorry that I have created a mess. Can you delete the warning templates I created? But can I create a {{subst:test4im}}? Jianhui67 Talk 07:23, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
✓ Done No worries, the deletions were quick and easy. As for {{subst:test4im}}, since these are used widely, it may be best to discuss the need/use of the template at COM:VP before creating it. INeverCry 17:02, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Mass deletion

Hello,

I would like to ask about Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by FireSky, you have deleted all user contributions, although some were OK, I would appreciate if you can restore those which are not fair use/non own work. Thanks! matanya talk 21:11, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

FireSky's response in that DR shows no knowledge or awareness of copyright policy. For this reason, and per my trust in the judgement of JuTa, I deleted all the nominated images per COM:PRP. If you know which, if any, of his uploads aren't copyvios, let me know and I'll restore them, or I would have no objection to you restoring any of these images if they're ok in your judgement. You might also ask JuTa, as he must've reviewed these images prior to nominating them. I may not be able to find the time to go thru and review such a large number of images very soon. INeverCry 21:26, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your prompt response. I'll catch a talk with the user. Best matanya talk 22:38, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

deleting without replacing

Hello,

If the reason for deleting is "several better alternatives" then it's not enough to send the bot to remove the file, and damaging the article by doing so. You need to choose one of these alternatives and replace the deleted file with it. Neukoln (talk) 03:26, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

I know. Since the DR was by an experienced admin like Leyo, I assumed he would have taken care of that before nominating the file for deletion. I'll ask him about it. INeverCry 03:46, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
I have a different interpretation of COM:D#Redundant/bad quality. --Leyo 09:21, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you both for the answer and the fix. Leyo, I still wonder what your interpretation of "...you will need to replace all instances where the image is used with the superior file. ... After all replacements have been made an admin will delete the image" would be?
Having said that, I wasn't aware of that policy, and what I wrote here was based on commonsense: You break it - you fix it. Neukoln (talk) 10:09, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
I am not sure if you got my statement right. IMO INeverCry failed to have the replacement done. Alternatively, he could have left out this DR for now. There is no need to close DRs only minutes after the 7-day period is over. --Leyo 11:44, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
So you feel it's right to do a DR for a replaceable image, but leave the replacing to be done by someone else? And then you blame me for closing a simple DR that was eligible to be closed? I closed that DR and others by you quickly because I trusted that you would have taken care of the needed replacement, and that I wouldn't have to come behind you and do your work for you. Don't worry though, I won't close another DR by you ever again. INeverCry 16:54, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
There is no reason to be in a huff. As noted above, this is the procedure as I understand it is described in COM:D#Redundant/bad quality.
If an admin closes a DR as deleted for quality (and not for legal) reasons, IMO (s)he needs to check the global usage of the file. What about a closure as to be deleted as soon as replaced globally or similar? --Leyo 17:34, 15 August 2013 (UTC) PS. I check the global usage of files I had nominated for quality reasons after the DR was closed as deleted. I am, however, not online 24/7.
I'll leave all of your DRs, and any other DRs for replaceable images alone from now on, so problem solved. INeverCry 17:48, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Why you deleted this picture without giving prior alert to me? I clicked this picture and what type of copyright violation you found on this? Shobhit Gosain (talk) 05:10, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Here's the deletion rationale:

{{copyvio|source=http://soulsteer.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Poetry-of-the-Senses-Mr.-and-Mrs.-Scindia.jpg|Cropped image from that magazine, and I notice the uploader has has a fair few of the same already deleted.}}.

As for notification, I only deleted the file myself. Another user tagged it for deletion and should've notified you. But he's only got 4 edits here, so he probably wasn't aware of that. INeverCry 05:19, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

The picture which you saw in the website is clicked by me only. How do I have to prove that I clicked that picture? Please tell me Shobhit Gosain (talk) 19:27, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
I see there's COM:OTRS permission for File:P. Narahari by SouLSteer.jpg. You should probably contact OTRS about the rest of these images, including the one we're talking about. INeverCry 19:43, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

reg deleted file

Hi INeverCry, Some of my files have been deleted by you. I was not very sure why they were deleted. They were pictures taken by me. I am providing one of the link of the file deleted

19:40, 6 August 2013 INeverCry (talk | contribs) deleted page File:Agra visit 1.jpg (Copyright violation, see Commons:Licensing) (global usage; delinker log)

Can you please let me know what copyright violation was discovered.

thanks Prakash S — Preceding unsigned comment added by Prakash.saivasan (talk • contribs) 12:14, August 15, 2013‎ (UTC)

It looks like doubt as to copyright came from the fact that this image is web-resolution at 62kb with no COM:EXIF, while most of your other uploads are high-resolution shot with the FinePix HS30EXR. After looking at File:The tajmahal.jpg though, I've decided to restore File:Agra visit 1.jpg. INeverCry 19:29, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

The reason why you find these photos in web resolution is I uploaded it into some cloud storage and brought it back from there I also used some of the tools provided there to add some borders that I felt was nice. You can delete the Agra visit 1.jpg too, atleast i know why my photos were deleted, I will be careful next time.

The files are ok in my view, so I'll leave them be, but it is probably better to upload copies of images with the EXIF intact and as high-res as possible. INeverCry 19:39, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Delete

Hi I'm going to leave from here and i want my files to be deleted .GhiathArodaki (talk) 18:47, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Deletion requests like these usually stay open for 1 week; if after that, there's no objections, the files can be deleted. INeverCry 21:12, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
and i want to delete my file that you have protected.GhiathArodaki (talk) 09:03, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

I've unprotected it, but I don't want to see any more edit-warring on this file. INeverCry 19:11, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
First Thanks , Second i'm not the one who is edit warring , it was fry .GhiathArodaki (talk) 10:23, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
He wasn't edit-warring with himself. INeverCry 19:31, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
He was edit warring , and i was reverting his edits , i was protecting it , not making vandilism.GhiathArodaki (talk) 19:41, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

I'm sure you both felt you were in the right. In cases like this, it's better to take it to COM:AN/U right away rather than edit-warring. Otherwise the reverts end up going on and on, and nothing gets resolved. INeverCry 19:52, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

A request

You stated that Russavia has "done a good job" as a Crat. I have asked many people of anything positive or even neutral, and no one could find an example. A lot of people produced a lot of bad examples where he willfully misinterpreted policy to attack other users, to justify bad images, to override consensus, etc. Additionally, there is proof that Russavia asked Pricasso to paint Jimbo, and it happened while the two were in a dispute. It doesn't matter if Russavia actually thought he was doing the right thing - to the opposite, him thinking he was doing the right thing shows an inability to make good judgments. I would ask that you reconsider your support of him in light of the vast majority of the community having really strong feelings that directly contradict your own suppositions. Ottava Rima (talk) 14:46, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Ottava. I voted keep for Russavia because he's always been highly active here on Commons, participating in RFCs, AN and other discussions, bot requests, closing RFAs, etc, and I think he's a plus for Commons. As for the image of Jimbo, I haven't seen Russavia say that he did it to mess with Jimbo, so anything on that head is conjecture. I figure that Jimbo and others probably wouldn't like that image/video regardless of who uploaded it. In any event, the way the voting is going, Russavia may lose the 'crat tools anyways. I intend to leave my vote as is because that's how I feel about Russavia, and so that's how my one little vote goes.

To make a comparison, I would support unblocking your account on en.wiki so you could continue writing some of the best literary articles around, but I'm sure there would be no shortage of people who would vehemently oppose. While I'm on that topic, let me just say I especially liked your Leigh Hunt articles, which I did a little polishing of way back when. INeverCry 17:41, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

He has been active, which is the problem. His edits are either tons of automated edits that should be done by a bot and not on a user account or they are where he makes really bad decisions on deletion pages or similar things mostly in what appears to be either revenge against an individual or a philosophical view in an abstract sense. Look at the Poland Ball stuff where he has uploaded things that attack people ethnically or even sometimes as individuals. He is not congenial, and his edits are extremely aggressive against others. He will claim others be "mellow" when they already are and disguise his own inappropriate hostility. We need to be unified as a whole to ensure that such behavior is not tolerated in any form. Have you noticed that I am banned from en.wikipedia like he is but I didn't join with a political group to get power on another project and wage war against individuals like Jimbo. My ban at en.wikipedia is because I stood up against admin who were clearly abusing their powers, whereas Russavia's was for waging war on other users who had differing political view points.Ottava Rima (talk) 21:19, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps I should've unblocked you at the same time I unblocked Malleus: then all hell would've really broken loose! INeverCry 21:43, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Ched tried to do that and I was the first one to tell him to redo the block. I will only accept an unblock from ArbCom. Ottava Rima (talk) 01:58, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
As an aside - the Leigh Hunt stuff was never completed, and there is quite a bit of stuff scattered in subpages that should have been brought forward. I still have about 50 articles in various subpages on en.wikipedia that never got moved forward, and I don't really care either way. I only wrote the pages because of the problematic behavior on poem related matters (plagiarism, original research, outright nonsense, etc). Ottava Rima (talk) 21:25, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
That's alot of great hard work not to care about. I feel a certain satisfaction and pride looking at them, and I'm not even the author. INeverCry 21:43, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not a place that currently cares about having an ideal encyclopedia. The reason why is that there are those in power who care only about power, and they use power to harm other users. I could say that there are similar people on Commons who do the same, which is why I am so for this de-crat. Ottava Rima (talk) 01:58, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
Not even the worst admins over there can deny the impressiveness of articles like yours or Malleus's. I'm sure readers of Wikipedia care a whole lot more for those great articles than they ever could for any admin/arbcom drama; most people don't know or care about all the bullshit; they just want to read or write about their interests.

As for Russavia, my experience with him has been positive. I try to steer clear of drama and stick to my regular work as much as possible, so others may have seen things they didn't like that I wouldn't see, and have voted accordingly. I can only put my 1 vote in the way I see it. I often lean toward giving people a second chance. As it is, the voting is 57remove/42keep, so things aren't looking too good for Russavia. I'm just glad I'm not a steward or bureaucrat faced with the challenge of closing this and taking whatever action is called for. INeverCry 02:39, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

I so miss the days of being able to write and draw. I know just what the longing to fix those articles is like. <sigh> <pause> <sigh> I should get a self imposed block so I can work on my programming without getting dragged into all the mess. Penyulap 07:02, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
INeverCry, I think you underestimate how awful people can be. If you didn't know, the whole reason for my case was because of one admin was using socks to try and get me banned because he did not like that I was improving pages related to Jonathan Swift, an area he claimed even though he lacked actual expertise. That is what happens all over the place - fake experts who game the system and abuse it to take control. There is no real desire to improve the Wiki, only to own it for whatever reason. Ottava Rima (talk) 15:27, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
You're supposed to pick subjects that nobody else notices, like Russian writers other than Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, and Chekhov. As for people, it's hard not to want to underestimate their awfulness. INeverCry 20:11, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

24/7 ? You should get more exercise ! Not too much mind you but a little bit wouldn't hurt. Or maybe something standing behind your chair. (That song is not my favorite, but he is one of my favorite singer/dancers because he wasn't taken seriously as a singer because people stereotyped him as the martial arts champion he is/was before. So he said 'screw you guys, I'll force you to watch me ;)' and did so. I only really like one of his songs though, and it's not this one (which is still good though).) Man of Steel film page - my foto was deleted - please help

Hello - I am the photographer of the image of Allison Crowe that was @ http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Musician_Allison_Crowe_on_the_red_carpet_for_%22Man_of_Steel%22_World_Premiere,_Lincoln_Center,_New_York_-_June_10,_2013.jpg

This is s photo I took of Allison Crowe, who has a cameo appearance in the film "Man of Steel", when Allison attended the World Premiers of "Man of Steel" in New York City, USA earlier this Summer.

I uploaded this image to Wikimedia Commons (using my account name Rimbaud22ca) and Wikipedia (where my account name is Adrian22) so that all people of the world can enjoy it and use it freely.

For some reason or reasons I do not understand - this image has been deleted. It has been deleted as a file somehow, and, from the page where it had been posted by someone @ http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_of_Steel_%28film%29

Please, whoever can help restore this image, it is very much appreciated. I control/hold all rights to this inmage and freely grant the use of this image to people.

Thank you, Adrian du Plessis management@allisoncrowe.com

The problem with this image is that in it she's standing next to a big Man of Steel poster. The prominence of the poster makes this a derivative work, which is a copyright violation of the owners/producers of Man of Steel. If you have a similar image where the poster can't be seen, you could upload that. INeverCry 04:04, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your prompt and clear reply. Warner Bros. has cleared our use of film images and set pics of Allison Crowe in connection with "Man of Steel". So, it is helpful for me to know what is any concern, then I can most easily address it in context. Thanks, again! Adrian

Film images and set pics are alot different than a promotional poster for the movie. I don't think Warner Bros would give anyone the right to use their actual posters, especially as Commons requires a free license that allows commercial use and derivatives. We would need COM:OTRS permission from Warner Bros themselves for the poster. INeverCry 16:28, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Question

Can I make only 25 reverts to apply for rollback? I had about 4-5 reverts already. Finding vandalism on Commons is rather hard. I only see IP users making good contributions, but not bad edits. Besides, I have rollback rights in 3 wikis (one of them is administrator), including English Wikipedia. Would that case for my rollback rights here, including that I have 25 reverts here? Jianhui67 Talk 13:02, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Rollback isn't an award or a status. If you can hardly find any vandalism, than you probably don't need rollback. INeverCry 17:30, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Guidance

Dear INeverCry. I understand that my picture http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kate_Branch.JPG has been chosen not to be deleted. May I ask when the red box will disappear from the image. I would like to start contributing my photographic nature library to wikimedia commons. I would prefer the nomination box to disappear, if not the image. Please give me guidance so I can start contributing my professional photographic library. Thank you Sincerely Kate — Preceding unsigned comment added by Katebranch (talk • contribs) 19:58, August 22, 2013‎ (UTC)

No decision has been made about the image yet. Did you nominate it for deletion? Do you want it deleted? Regarding photographs you wish to contribute, you are free to upload any photos you'd like at any time, as long as you are the copyright holder/author of the image/s. INeverCry 04:20, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you for your promp response. Yes I would like it deleted. I own the image. I have started contributing and would prefer to remove the image. I would like my nature photographs to be contributed to my name by not my profile image. Not me personally. My husband photographed it and put in an ip request to remove it. I would like to contribute a photographic library of wattle and Australian native flowers. I am sorry for not understanding how commons works so I may not be requesting things appropriatley. Also- do I need to send my photographic CV to anyone, or image release contracts before adding my photographic images. I have taken all the photographic images that I would like to donate. Thank you Sincerly Kate

About copyvios

Hello, all the photos you have nominated for deletion have been attributed under a license. The "unknown" goes to the author (ie. the photographer), which implies that he has died or is unknown. I have personally contacted (before the uploadings) the respective owners of the copyright (the sources) and they have personally accepted the uploading and the attribution and re-distribution of the photos. The owner of the book "Gerapetros and Gerapetrites" is Morfotiki Stegi Ierapetras (the original writer died in 1992) and the President of this Association (Morfotiki Stegi Ierapetras) has accepted to publish photos such as those of Mayors of Ierapetra. I also contacted the owner of the local newspaper "Anatoli" (1932-) and also accepted, gave permission to have photos of Lasithi Mps and former MPs here provided that the newspaper will be cited.

Other photos come from family archives from sons, daughters or grandsons of the deceased persons. I hope that this information is enough to keep the photos and not delete them. Thanks, --Kiario12 (talk) 19:20, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Please send an email to OTRS and explain your situation to them. If everything checks out, and the permissions you mention can be confirmed, the images can be kept. INeverCry 19:26, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
I did so, but no answer was received and the files were deleted in mass, including those who are licensed as they are works by me. --Kiario12 (talk) 00:49, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

What would you do about these 2 images by this new uploader? The first image is supposed to be 'own work' but would appear to be taken from a website somewhere. The second is sourced to a flickr account but the precise source is not given.

Do you know what to do as an Admin? This person is a new uploader and we want to assume good faith--which is a wikipedia idea--but good faith only goes so far on Commons. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:27, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

I've tagged both as copyvios. INeverCry 00:53, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
  •  Comment: Yes. I did not know where the flickr sourced first image originally came from but I can see now that they were both copyvios sadly. One has to BITE with uploaders such as this person. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:23, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

A DR

I wonder if this DR which was filed because of me could be speedily closed since I withdrew my objection?

Its your decision of course. Kind Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:05, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

broken redirect

Hi INeverCry, you've forgotten to delete the redirect, now the Bot deleted the target in it. --Typokorrektör (talk) 17:30, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

✓ Done INeverCry 17:35, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, I've found one more in the logs: [5]. --Typokorrektör (talk) 17:37, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. I've deleted that one too. If you see others, you can let me know or you can tag them with {{speedydelete|Broken redirect}}. INeverCry 17:41, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Ok. I'm looking across the log of the CommonsDelinker. This redirect target has been deleted by Túrelio: [6]. --Typokorrektör (talk) 17:42, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Deleted. INeverCry 17:44, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

What do you think of this? Wouldn't it also have to be deleted? It seems to be just another version. --Typokorrektör (talk) 17:55, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Deleted. INeverCry 18:05, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

I've found one more: [7].
The problem is also that there are many derivative files in the log of the CommonsDelinker, where the originals have been deleted. I've started a few deletion requests for them, but these are just a few files. There are many more. :( What do you think about an author's deletion request: File:37mm baton rounds.jpg, when there had already been a deletion discussion with the same reason and the file had been kept? I've requested deletion for the derivative file at Commons:Deletion requests/File:37mm plastic baton round.jpg, but perhaps it would be better to restore the deleted file? I don't know how to request restoration, so it can be discussed in the deletion request. It's not very logical to delete an original and keep the derivative of it. :) --Typokorrektör (talk) 18:19, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Deleted. The DR above will get the needed attention. Don't hesitate to file DRs when needed. Undeletions can be requested at COM:UDEL. INeverCry 18:25, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the information. I should add the previous deletion request, where the deleted file had been kept before. --Typokorrektör (talk) 18:33, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
The deletion request should be enough in this case. The participants and closing admin can decide what needs to be done, and restore the other file if needed. INeverCry 18:45, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
Ok, I leave it up to them. Is it normal to delete upon an author's request? I've seen one more of this, see here. What's best to do with it?
Here's one more broken redirect: [8] --Typokorrektör (talk) 18:58, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

And what do you think about this derivative, where you deleted the original because of missing or wrong(?) license? Don't know exactly, what you meant there. The derivative has a license. What shall be done with that? Seems to be another uploader, so the license seems to be wrong. --Typokorrektör (talk) 18:58, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

I've deleted the redirect and the bug image, which was taken from a website. As for the map, you might want to ask Inhakito, the author of both. Perhaps there was an error in the deleted one, or he updated/replaced it. Author requested deletions are usually done speedily within 7 days of upload, or by DR if older. INeverCry 19:14, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
Ok, thanks, that makes sense. I think I'll ask him about that.
Here are some more broken redirects to delete: File:Nicolea Bănicioiu.jpg, File:Josip Broz Tito Légion d'honneur.jpg (and talk page), File:0Блок и Чуковский 1921.JPG, File:夫子廟.jpg, where the bot hasn't removed the link target (out of Special:BrokenRedirects).
✓ Done INeverCry 19:47, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
Might there be any possibility to search directly for all those broken redirects, where the bot has removed the deleted link targets and another bot has placed a category about missing licenses afterwards without searching through the bot's log? Those aren't technically any redirects anymore, but file pages with such a category, but without files and without descriptions. Those pages have only #REDIRECT and such a category. --Typokorrektör (talk) 19:40, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
I've never done much work with redirects, so I don't know how to search directly. You could ask at COM:VP. INeverCry 19:47, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
Ok, I think I'll take the next example, and if I then get no idea, I'll ask there, if anyone else has one. :) --Typokorrektör (talk) 20:06, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Here's a template error with PD-Art ("template without parameter"), perhaps you have any idea how to fix that?: File:Carl Jutz Enten am Bach.jpg. --Typokorrektör (talk) 20:11, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Fixed. When you see an error like that, it means the underlying license that makes the work itself free is missing. In this case it was {{PD-old-70}}. INeverCry 20:18, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Deleted pictures

Hi, just saw that some of my pictures have been deleted (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Czeslawlang.jpg). Could you tell me what was the reason? The photos were placed in my gallery in Polish Wikipedia, same as other of my works. Now there is a couple of articles with no picture at all. Is there any way to undelete them?

Regards Piotr Tysarczyk — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pitert (talk • contribs) 13:00, August 26, 2013‎ (UTC)

These were deleted via Commons:Deletion requests/File:Czeslawlang.jpg, which was uncontested. You may want to ask MGA73 about this. I have no objection to these being restored if the deletion was incorrect. INeverCry 20:06, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry, maybe you can help me understand how i can proceed with these pictures that you deleted yesterday:

These were pictures of paintings that I uploaded. The paintings were made by my uncle, but I own them, and since he´s been dead for more than 20 years now, I want to share them, and make them available for anyone to see and use. In fact, I uploaded them to include them in his wikipedia article http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enrique_Sobisch. Is there a Copyright violation? If so, can I upload them in any other way? Thanks, Mcamilamenendezm

Priyadarshini Raje Scindia by Soulsteer, November 2012.jpg

Still waiting for the OTRS, its been over 1 week. You deleted the picture without even letting me know. I don't think it was fair decision of deleting the picture. I clicked the picture for SouLSteer and anywhere you see it on the internet, I am the sole owner of that picture. I will send you an official mail if you want to see it. Please guide me how to bring that picture back? Shobhit Gosain (talk) 17:06, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Have you asked about this at COM:OTRS/N? You may also want to ask an OTRS member directly. The OTRS process is widely used, and can take a couple weeks or even longer. As for your image and it's deletion, I think it was completely fair. My interest is both in protecting Commons and the copyright of Shobhit Gosain (if we didn't confirm identities in cases like this, anyone could claim to be a person and upload images by that person, whether it was really them or not). We just want to make sure everything is confirmed. Once you have OTRS permission, uploading images that've been published in Soulsteer will be easy and safe for Commons and re-users of the content, as well as the copyright holder. INeverCry 18:29, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
I have asked at COM:OTRS/N,please have a look: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:OTRS/N#File:Priyadarshini_Raje_Scindia_by_Soulsteer.2C_November_2012.jpg. Shobhit Gosain (talk) 18:36, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
An OTRS member has signed your last post there, so the case has been noticed. Hopefully they'll get it handled soon. They're very busy. I'm sorry this is taking a while, but once an OTRS volunteer gets this processed, everything should go smoothly from there. INeverCry 18:47, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi.

File:Internet Explorer 3 logo and wordmark.png is recently deleted for licensing reasons but since English Wikipedia has less restrictions, I think we could use it there. Could you please restore a copy of it and its description for me? Thanks.

Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 04:28, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

✓ Done I've temporarily restored it. INeverCry 04:43, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I am done copying.
Still, now that I am seeing this image I am surprised as to why it is deleted. The requester have said this image is not simple geometric shape; thus it must be deleted. Whoa! Who said all images that are not simple geometric shapes must be deleted? This image looks like a clear case of {{PD-textlogo}} to me. (See Commons:Threshold of originality.)
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 16:57, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
P.S. Now this takes the cake: Checking the image revision history, I see the speedy deletion was made by User:Caffeyw. Suffice to say that I recently undid 20 of his edits involving tagging images for speedy deletion for being patently ineligible. Please see Commons:Help desk#CSD Removals. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 17:02, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
I'll leave it live. INeverCry 17:16, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Question

Can I ask whether if you can check whether my reverts are okay or not? Thanks. Jianhui67 Talk 14:50, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

Those look fine. You might want to get into patrolling new pages and images, and tagging out of COM:SCOPE pages and copyvio images. You'll find that there's alot more work to be done in these areas than in reverting vandalism. INeverCry 21:20, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
I just got some reverts today. Are they okay? Jianhui67 Talk 15:51, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
I've given you the rollback right. Make sure you're careful with it. Keep up the good work. INeverCry 21:22, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you very much! I'll make sure that I'll be careful with it. Jianhui67 Talk 01:55, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
By the way, what is the difference between patroller and autopatroller? They don't look much difference, except the actions of a autopatroller is automatically marked as patrolled and it requires much high criteria. Jianhui67 Talk 01:41, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Autopatrol is given to users who have shown themselves to be trustworthy (with 500+ edits, few or no copyvio uploads, no blocks, etc) so that their edits are automatically marked as patrolled. This is by far the most common user right. Patroller is given to users who've demonstrated knowledge and experience of scope, vandalism, spam, etc, and gives them the ability to mark the edits of others (who're not autopatrolled) as patrolled. Only a couple hundred users have this right. I usually look for 1500 edits or more (the more the better), with speedy deletion tagging experience of out of scope pages, test pages, spam, etc. INeverCry 01:54, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Oh then on 1 July 2013, due to me being new to Wikipedia, I uploaded File:Leonard Lim.jpg, and did not know that was a copyright violation, which was deleted by you later. Would that decrease my chance of getting autopatrol in the future? And is Huggle applicable here? I want to use Huggle to revert vandalism here. Jianhui67 Talk 02:13, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
A few deleted uploads is no big deal. No Huggle here, as there's not much need for it. The main area of cleanup work here is finding and tagging copyvio and out of scope images. Our big tool is Help:VisualFileChange.js. INeverCry 03:23, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

File:Slovene Rodnover kolovrat.png

Regarding this deletion: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Slovene Rodnover kolovrat.png, I don't understand why the file was proposed for deletion, since the original which I copied here on Commons was published on Slovene Wikipedia under a public domain license. --Wewelsburger (talk) 12:12, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

I've reversed my deletion and close. I would suggest you comment at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Slovene Rodnover kolovrat.png. I don't know much about this kind of logo, but my only question would be to make sure this wasn't drawn from a copyrighted source image. INeverCry 17:29, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
It was published as PD, but no information was given about the author of the logo (the tag was simply 'PD', not 'PD-self'). --Eleassar (t/p) 09:42, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Upload question

Hello how are can I upload the picture form this site? http://en.academic.ru/dic.nsf/enwiki/874570 . -- thak you :).Jobas (talk) 13:37, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

The image states "circa 1900", so it's too new for {{PD-old-70}} unless you can determine who the author was and when they died. INeverCry 16:51, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
i'm sorry, but you've made a mistake; that picture is clearly PD-1923 USA (where it was almost certainly taken). this was a prominent mormon family in the USA. this picture should be perfectly fine to upload @ commons. the date of death of the photographer is, in such cases, IRRELEVANT. Lx 121 (talk) 23:55, 4 September 2013 (UTC)
I appreciate the note. I don't know how that slipped my mind. In any case your note made me look deeper, and find the already-deleted copy (which is much higher-res than the one at the above link btw). INeverCry 01:39, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
@Jobas - Do not upload this file. This same image has been previously deleted on Commons: File:Joseph F. Smith family.png via deletion request: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Joseph F.
