How do they do things in the Indonesian Wikipedia

[…] Undo revision 254488428 by Taterian (talk): there is only one Jalaksana so there is no need to specify "Kuningan" as they do in the Indonesian Wikipedia‎ 10:39, 16 June 2018‎ Humboldt (talk)‎

Thank you my dear Humboldt for you attention to the Category:Jalaksana, Kuningan. What can I say, I applaud people that immediately spring into action instead of wasting time by dwelling on an issue or talking to others; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but when it does, it's like a breeze, a breath of fresh air after a summer thunderstorm lifting the stifling atmosphere of conventions and dull pleasantries, which is unfortunately not the case here.

Now, please let me get straight to our reverting business, Revision history of "Category:Jalaksana, Kuningan". As it turnes out, the folks from the Indonesian Wikipedia ain't stupid, as indeed in Kuningan District, West Java, Indonesia, there is a village named Jalaksana with near 7,000 inhabitants administered via Jalaksana sub-district. That is why our Indonesian colleagues quite wisely named that village article in the Indonesian Wikipedia — Jalaksana, Jalaksana, Kuningan, which means Village Jalaksana from Sub-District Jalaksana, in Kuningan Regency, or Kuningan District (of West Java Province). So, the Category:Jalaksana, Kuningan collects images related to 15 villages located in Jalaksana, Kuningan sub-district including the Village of Jalaksana. And you may create all 15 village categories in an admirable action and upload for them pictures or sort existing if any, as you seem genuinely interested in the subject matter.

Alas, to make things even more confusing, there are people named Jalaksana, including first and last names. So, as we both see, very smart persons are compiling the Indonesian Wikipedia!

I'm not much of an expert myself on all things Indonesian, so you may kindly correct me if I am wrong. With best regards, --Taterian (talk) 05:32, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello Taterian, you have a point. The problem lies in the fact that a regency can bear the name of a district which in turns can bear the name of a village, a problem that will not occur in a country like for example the UK where the county around the city of Oxford is called "Oxfordshire". The choice made in the Indonesian Wikipedia (which by the way is of an appallingly poor quality, both in terms of content and language) is determined by a will to show the different levels of administrative hierarchy, which in my opinion is not necessarily a concern for outsiders. I would suggest to differentiate these levels by specifying "Jalaksana (district)" and "Jalaksana (village)", as has been done for example with "Bengkulu (city)" and "Bengkulu (province)". What do you think?--Humboldt (talk) 06:44, 23 June 2018 (UTC)
It seems that "Jalaksana (village)" may solve a riddle, but I am not so sure about "Jalaksana (district)", may be "Jalaksana (sub-district)"? As I mentioned before, I'm not an expert on Indonesia and you'd be better off by talking to anyone more familiar with the subject. With best wishes, --Taterian (talk) 03:20, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
The problem with "subdistrict" is that it supposes the existence of "districts". In Indonesia provinces are divided into kabupaten called "regencies" in English because the Dutch word was regentschappen. Kabupaten are in turn divided into kecamatan which can be translated with "district". Supporting such a translation is the fact that in Papua (western New Guinea) regencies are divided into distrik, --Humboldt (talk) 15:43, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
How about going native, i.e., "Kecamatan Jalaksana" per Subdivisions of Indonesia? --Taterian (talk) 02:14, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
Hello Humboldt, I didn't hear back from you about Jalaksana issue and your mindful silence can be read as a tacit approval of my suggestion to mend the category in question by renaming it as Category:Kecamatan Jalaksana. Please tell if you want to do it yourself? Cheers, --Taterian (talk) 19:41, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
[…]Hello Taterian, sorry for my late reply. In my opinion, it is sufficient to name the district (kecamatan) "Jalaksana". If one day there is a need to create a category for the village of Jalaksana, then we can name it "Jalaksana (village)", 11:56, 18 July 2018 Humboldt (talk) It is all right now, and I trust your good judgement and knowledge regarding the Jalaksana riddle. --Taterian (talk) 21:08, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
