Watermarks and borders[edit]

Greetings to Inishowen!

Hi Higgy mark, thank you for contributing to Wikimedia Commons with pictures of Inishowen. I've been there as well and I am glad to see more pictures from this area which has so much to offer. Please allow me to point out two problems which are peculiar to Wikimedia Commons. The focus of Wikimedia Commons is on providing free media which can be easily reused. In this regard we are very different from shared photo albums like Flickr. Visible watermarks as in File:Clonca cross3.jpg are discouraged. Instead it is advisable to use hidden watermarks by specifiying copyright and authorship in the EXIF segment of a JPG file. Another point is that borders as in File:Clonca cross and church with a bit of wire wool.jpg are to be avoided as well. Whenever necessary, a border can be easily added by markup without changing the photograph. We would appreciate it if you could re-upload these images without borders and watermarks. Thanks and kind regards, AFBorchert (talk) 14:07, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

September 2019: it's Wiki Loves Monuments time again![edit]

Hi

You're receiving this message because you've previously contributed to the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest in Ireland. We'd be delighted if you would enter again this year, and continue to build on the image archive of Ireland's built heritage.

You can find more details at the Wiki Loves Monuments Ireland website. If you have images taken in other countries, you can check the international options. Once again, this year's contest runs until 30 September 2019.

Thanks again for your help and enthusiasm! Smirkybec (talk) 19:27, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
