Deletion of Raid EDHEC's pictures[edit]

Hello Herbythyme,

I saw that you delete all the pictures I uploaded on Wikipedia in order to illustrate the article Raid EDHEC.

I modify the copyright on Flickr so could you please retore the pictures on Wikipedia.

Thank a lot

--Chti yo (talk) 15:54, 15 September 2008 (UTC) Chti Yo[reply]

Bonjour Herbythyme,

Merci d'avance ! Cordialement

Kevin Sweeney case[edit]

Thanks for your swift investigation & action on the Kevin Sweeney photo. It is entirely possible that you have literally saved someone's life. I'd call that a productive and rewarding day. The irony being that, hopefully, the subject will never need to know about your contribution to his safety. If there was ever the best example of "many eyes make all bugs shallow", this could have been it. Evilandi (talk) 12:08, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TVants screenshot case[edit]

You delete the screenshot I upload about a non-free software: TVants running under linux, I can understand that. but I also found a screenshot on wikipedia. Why can this picture survive on wikipedia, but my picture been delete? Can you give me some suggestion some way post a screenshot of the non-software TVants?Chaosconst (talk) 02:14, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That screenshot is under fair use on Wikipedia. Commons on the other hand, doesn't allow fair use. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 05:00, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recreation[edit]

I was going to create a page, George Temple-Poole, but noticed you had already sped one to oblivion. Any objection to my recreating it? Cygnis insignis (talk) 15:46, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem here - it was created & requested for deletion by (effectively) the author. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 15:48, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring[edit]

See this please. A lot of edit warring, I'm wondering if you know anything or know somebody who do know about this subject. My first thought was to get someone who knows something about the maps & then resolve it on AN, or their user talk. --Kanonkas(talk) 12:32, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This can also be some help for you. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 12:47, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry didn't get back on line again until now & only on for 10 or so. Hope it is sorted. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 09:54, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

←Also, I've got a question about IP block exemption. Can admins assign this right? I've tried to go to Special:UserRights but I get a permissions errors. --Kanonkas(talk) 15:03, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No - 'crats & CUs only. Tends to come up when a CU finds someone who is a good contributor on a "bad" range. --Herby talk thyme 15:05, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion[edit]

Excuse me, Herbythyme, why was this Image:F-PROT-20080921-Thank you.png speedy deleted without any warning, explanation or discussion? I will repeat this question at the Village Pump. -SusanLesch (talk) 07:14, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Responded here. --Herby talk thyme 08:17, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed you deleted this image quickly and didn't let nobody discuss it right. Well, I don't see any problem with it. And I discuss about it with some admnistrators before uploaded it. We analyzed it and agreed it is {{PD-textlogo}} because it is only a typefaced text with no originality. You can see our conversation here. It is in portuguese though. But if you want to talk to Patrícia and Lugusto feel free.Mizunoryu 大熊猫❤小熊猫 (talk) 13:26, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To me it is very clearly a defined logo. It even has the ® clearly visible on the image which certainly means the owner considers it a registered trade mark. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 13:34, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't say it wasn't a logo. Sure it is! But Commons don't forbid text logos like this, because they're typefaced, The license left this explicit. Otherwise you're going to delete all these Mizunoryu 大熊猫❤小熊猫 (talk) 13:14, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope but the ® symbol is so clearly visible that to me it is a registered trademark. The en wp that you have linked to is only "fair use" (unacceptable on Commons) and seems identical? --Herby talk thyme 14:35, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well even without it it's clear a trademark like the other uploaded here. If the problem is ® symbol I can erase it like all uploaders erased it for the logos they uploaded. Sure the person who uploaded it at Wiki-en didn't know about {{PD-textlogo}}. Mizunoryu 大熊猫❤小熊猫 (talk) 14:58, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've asked Patricia to comment but if she does not do so in a day maybe then I think we should look at an undelete request to allow others to comment. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 16:02, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's ok! . She's quite busy, but I know she'll answer you as soon as she can. Ok, I think it's better for everybody to put their POV about it. Thanks for the attention. Mizunoryu 大熊猫❤小熊猫 (talk) 16:12, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Time disappeared today :(. Tomorrow I intend to undelete it if Patricia has not commented and then use DR and try and get some more input. The problem with undelete requests is that only admins can actually see the image which to a degree excludes folks whose opinion is very valid. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 16:04, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm here, I'm here! :D Well, I hadn't commented on this previously, although it was on my talk page (I asked Lugusto to intervene, because I'm busy out of my mind). To me, it's a very borderline case. It's not a big problem that it's trademarked, since that is a distinct problem from copyright, but that it doesn't seem to be a common typeface, so imho {{PD-textlogo}} is not adequate. However, I fail to see much creativity there, and therefore it might be {{PD-ineligible}}. I do think a DR is the way to go (or an undeletion request, whichever you prefer), so there is more input, and maybe people can bring up other similar DRs where we have decided on similar images... there's no wrong or right answer here. Cheers, Patrícia msg 19:53, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Taken to Commons:Undeletion requests. --Kanonkas(talk) 05:36, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd prefer DR for the rationale I gave above so it is now here. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 09:39, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Herby! Mizunoryu 大熊猫❤小熊猫 (talk) 13:51, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion[edit]

I noticed that you deleted Point Nepean recently. I have only just finished uploading images (13 in total) of its military defences, and there are many other images of the region I would like to add. A gallery is needed for easy reference, so would you please restore the page? Ottre (talk) 07:37, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou. Ottre (talk) 07:39, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
With apologies - I was rather hasty. The trouble is we are quite used to getting pages without any images which would be outside our scope. Restored now & sorry :( --Herby talk thyme 07:40, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Is there some template I could use to avoid this? There are many cities (metro regions) of Melbourne which have no photographs at all, let alone the arterial roads, so I should be creating a lot of empty subcategories in the future. Ottre (talk) 07:47, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also note that I am very slow to upload images. Not only is my connection limited to ~256kbits/s, being on-line most of the day (on my laptop) means that I rarely have the patience to sit down for hours at home and photoshop. Ottre (talk) 07:51, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess my best advice would be "photos first, then create the pages". I will certainly not delete anything of yours in the future without allowing a reasonable period of time (& probably asking you anyway!). The work/contributions are appreciated & I'm sorry that I was rather hasty. I have little time at present & so tend to go into "clean up" mode when I do get on. In practice there are only a handful of us checking new pages so you should be fine but I would still tend to do the uploads first as tehy may get tagged by others who look I guess. If you get any problems I'll help if I can. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 07:57, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
True. I guess it'll come down to listing images on my user page. Ottre (talk) 08:33, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, just found out this has been a national park for decades! The photographs were actually taken by a friend who borrowed the camera. Are you looking for people to create stubs for Australian heritage-listed places and protected areas? I imagine there should be some content drives now that Wikimedia-AU has been incorporated. Ottre (talk) 08:33, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, if you say something like "under construction" in your edit summary when creating, I'll take note of that when looking at new pages. Giggy (talk) 10:47, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah - I'd agree with Giggy. Equally in terms of "storing" the images in a hand way you can always create a category. So long as there is one image in it no admin I know of will delete the category. You can add it to a gallery then later.
Parks, heritage type stuff would be great. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 10:49, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Hello Herby,

Thanks for your Welcome. Commons looks like it's a little complex for me — and complex for my english level, to be quite honest. So, may I ask you something, please ? My question will be on my own page, but of course there's absolutely no emergency. Thank a lot again and see you later (or cheers, or best regards, or everything else that is correct), --Wikinade (talk) 09:23, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing me at hotcat[edit]

Hi Herby.

Thanks for pointing that out to me. I've used it a few times now, and I agree its a really neat tool. Shame there aren't more as simple and easy to use as that. -- Chris j wood (talk) 15:45, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Israel Vazquez.jpg[edit]

Was the image use of Israel Vazquez.jpg really copyvio? Where's the evidence? 124.106.200.79 13:30, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Extremely dubious to me. Stated on the request "The image seems like a newspaper photo and the copyright claim is dubious at best, he claims to get them from "seats at the ringside", yet the image is clearly taken from inside the ring and directly in front of the boxer, only a limited ammount of personel is allowed inside a ring following a championship match". I'd want to see OTRS authority for such an image I think. The photographer must have been a professional IMO. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 13:43, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

once again...[edit]

Hi and thanks a lot for your actions in some impostor accounts. Please could you block and also protect them completely? There are some more hundreds af persolnal attacks etc in the meantime and I cannot follow all. See User:Jan Koukal z berlína and User:Jan Koukal z Berlína. My real doppelganger account is this one: User:Jan Koukal. Thanks, -jkb- (cs.source) 09:03, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More specific what should be protected, the accounts? --Kanonkas(talk) 10:11, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The accounts are blocked as far as I can see, the main user page and the user talk page should be protected by "edit/create sysop only", otherwise the vandals will edit and change them again. I mean these accounts: User:Jan Koukal z berlína and User:Jan Koukal z Berlína, not my doppelganger one. Thanks, -jkb- (cs.source) 10:30, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I confess I have little idea what is going on I'm afraid :(
If you are referring to my actions in regard to these contributions then I have to say that they are a known vandal & not directly at you as far as I know - just an ordinary trouble causer.
The account User:Jan Koukal z berlína does not actually exist so I can do nothing with it. I'm not sure what other accounts you are referring to? Thanks --Herby talk thyme 14:14, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I was just coming here to ask you about your reverts on those contributions, because at first sight they didn't seem to be bad, but if it's a troublemaker, I'll leave it at that. Patrícia msg 14:44, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - I think someone else will recall who it is - they have been "playing" with "stop signs" for over a year now (& marking this as speedy was more than playful :)). Try /16 for a rather greater selection of "contributions". Cheers --Herby talk thyme 15:07, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

E-mail abuse[edit]

Would you please investigate Xinunus (talk · contribs) more? Harassment by the account have happened on e-mail & off-wiki. --Kanonkas(talk) 15:11, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Depending on your meaning I did this am when I blocked him (you could probably work out an IP both here on en wp without any great trouble!). I found nothing else this am - are there any accounts you are concerned about?
As to email - I'd reblock with email prevented (I think that was the case on en wp too). Cheers --Herby talk thyme 15:32, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I found it, should we block the ip too? --Kanonkas(talk) 15:45, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is it disrupting the project currently? That is really the only question you need to ask. It shouldn't be as it ought to be autoblocked for 24 hours. Unblocked on en wp and not doing anything that I can see. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 16:02, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What I would also ask myself but I haven't had any experience with harassment on e-mail before so.. thanks again for your help! Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 16:25, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like they abused their ip, I've now blocked it. --Kanonkas(talk) 07:16, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Huh - this was created the day before :(. Might be worth extending that IP block? It is two weeks on en wp - anything up to a month would not worry me? Cheers --Herby talk thyme 14:27, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Image:FINSIA FELLOW MEMBER CERTIFICATE.jpg[edit]

! Why you delete it without any notice? Thanks

Please see:

By all means use the picture. Would you please send me a link to it when it is done?

Why did you delete my image ?[edit]

the image Shuguang_Middle_School-seal.gif was finished by myself and I've got the PSD source file.

However it is a logo and so owned by the organisation concerned. They will need to provide authorisation via OTRS to confirm their permission for it to be freely used. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 16:19, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. I got it, thanks. But I still wonder how to confirm an image is owned by some organization or to announce the possession of an image need any legal procedures? aolixiang (talk) 16:35, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WHY?[edit]

did you block my account Wikipikachu? i was not vandalizing...

Thank you very much for block him... I have blocked many IPs and user in the spanish wikipedia of this child. I don't know what can I do, but I will continue writing to his ISP... This "Timothy" user vandalize my pages and the pages of my friends on en.wiki, es.wiki, it.wiki and here... I have a list of his used IPs... etc., etc... Thanks again. Wikipichachu is Timothy reverting himself... --RoyFokker (talk) 05:43, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed Wikipikachu was not vandalising - however there were two other accounts on the same IP who were - as such you were all abusing multiple accounts. Hence the block.
To RoyFocker - please let me know if I can help. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 06:56, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, im not currently vandalizing, and also this guy Roy has been harassing me and telling the admins of the spanish wiki to block me, telling he's going to block my range and menaces me with tracing my IP in order to find me phisically, when my account there was blocked, i first tried to explain it politely but Roy then come and started bothering me. Im very afraid, i dont want to get on trouble, but if Roy doesn't apologize to me, i will not stop. Please understand, Herby, im not a bad person.
You won't stop vandalizing? Boy. What an incentive to unblock you. -Nard the Bard 15:58, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, i understand that vandalising is very wrong, but if RoyFocker doesn't stop menacing me, i dont know what to do, is like my last resort, but im very mad at Roy and to other admins of the Spanish wiki because they have driving me crazy, since a user called MARC912374 went to acuse me with an ex-admin called Petronas(he blocked me in june 2007) that my one-shot account, Ptronasmlap3la, was Timothy817, thus causing an user called Lourdes Cardenal to block me, and they began making fun at me, saying that im a nobody and they will find me, so i needed to took the vandalism path in order to stop the jokes. If Roy wants to continue bothering me, i will simply not reply to him until all this stuff gets forgotten. Thanks.
Please, let us not get into vandalism I'm sure we can get into an agreement. --Kanonkas(talk) 16:24, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Roy has just reverted my edits on his talk page, and he's saying that im continue, i posted an ultimatum on Roy's talk, saying that if he can't understand what im doing this, then i will not talk to him never again. So Roy, i think, losed it because i decided to surrender to avoid trouble.

Another Jetwave sock[edit]

Hello, Herbythyme. You may recall this CU from a few weeks ago; another sock has turned up. Can you block him for me? Also, I'd appreciate it if his edits to my talk page were deleted so they aren't visible to anyone save admins. And while we're at it, might you semi-protect my user and talk pages? That should put a stop to it. Thanks a lot for your help. Parsecboy (talk) 22:25, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done. --Kanonkas(talk) 22:37, 11 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have deleted User:Jean claude perez and « L’équation du Tableau de Mendeleïev d'après J.C. Perez ». Can you also delete User:Jean claude perez/L'équation du tableau de Mendeleïev ? It's autopromotion of Perez's work. --CHristoPHE 18:42, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Security Service and Secret Intelligence Service[edit]

Just a quick word to explain why I've basically reverted 5 of your edits. The Secret Intelligence Service is not the same thing as the Security Service. SIS is MI6 and their remit is foreign intelligence gathering, the Security Service is MI5 and their remit is internal security, counter terrorism, counter espionage etc. KTo288 (talk) 23:58, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How to delete an image on Commons ?[edit]

Hello Herby,
I've just upload an image and something went wrong with it : it doesn't appear (except in large size). Instead of having a thumb, there is a point of interrogation. I don't understand why this happened, but now it would be better to delete it. Does it exist a page for this kind of demand (like the page of « suppression immédiate » on the Wikipédia française ? Sorry for the style and thanks.
Cordialement, --Wikinade (talk) 09:29, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This can perhaps be better for you to understand what I say : thumb
Hi, i have deleted it for you. So now you can try again with the right version. I hope herby don't mind. Sterkebaktalk 09:40, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to SterkeBak for doing that. To Wikinade « suppression immédiate » - I know the on fr wp having used it. Here we use the {{Speedydelete}} template for such requests. I don't mind being asked but if I were not around it might mean a delay for you. The template should mean it is dealt with quickly. And your English is fine :) Thanks --Herby talk thyme 16:05, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Username Change[edit]

Hello Herby,

This is in regards to my username Lenders Multimedia Inc. that was blocked yesterday. I would like to know why the name was blocked. The reason for choosing that name is because I am a representative of the company and I want to represent myself as such. I attempted to change the username; however, it appears that I no longer have access to make any changes, even accessing my talk. Can you please grant me access?

Thank you.

In practice this relates to Wikipedia not Commons. Wikipedia has strict rules regarding commercial user names and your was obviously in breach of that. You should be able to create a new user name there anyway as far as I know however you would be advised not to place material relating to the company you work for - please see conflict of interest policies. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 07:07, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations[edit]

Hello,

This is the answer to the last message you left on my discussion page.

I re-uploaded these pictures several times because there is evidently absolutely no reason to delete it for copyright violation reasons. As I wrote in the images description, these are eather my own work, eather the work of the association I'm in charge of. There is absolutely no copyrighted content in these pictures. If you disagree with this, you should also delete the plenty of concerts and music festivals posters and flyers that are present on wikimedia as well as the thousands of companies (etc) logos. So please give up systematically removing it.

The said individual reference was to the individual who the username was created to attack - i.e. the website that the username took its name from. The Commons user here is not affiliated with the website. --Kelsington (talk) 10:26, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have the user's password, but I know him off-wiki. He's no longer into using Wikimedia projects. --Kelsington (talk) 10:31, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet[edit]

You may recall this. Well after getting more info, I think we've just found an account to evade the original block of the main account Shellabella17 (talk · contribs). Then there are the sockpuppets, Christian Schaefers (talk · contribs), Jj0909jj (talk · contribs) also the SUL tool can be handy for you. What do you think? --Kanonkas(talk) 19:27, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Digging:) Thanks --Herby talk thyme 09:19, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure - will mail CUs but likely to be tomorrow at best. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 15:02, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The idea of Commons admins running a "terror regime" is wrong & inappropriate[edit]

That's your opinion. If you are censoring my opinions you are participating on a regime which supresses other opinions. You may say my comment were uncivil but to say it is wrong is censorship --Historiograf (talk) 23:14, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Overlay file deletion[edit]

At 14:06 on 15 October 2008 you deleted the file Image:Marshfield Indiana map from 1877 atlas.png/overlay.kml, citing "Image page without media". Why was that? The overlay.kml file contained data from Google Earth to accompany the image itself, as detailed on Commons:Geocoding/Overlay; I have recreated it. Omnedon (talk) 03:50, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies - I'll know better in future. --Herby talk thyme 09:17, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note if you could take a look. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 11:30, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Protection[edit]

Thanks for the protection, but please restore the first part of my last reply so readers understand that MoiraMoira is not accused of anything. [1] Regards, Guido den Broeder (talk) 13:34, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just leave it Guido. --Kanonkas(talk) 13:37, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Herby!
If you do not patrol a page before moving it and then delete the redirect, the redirect will still be shown up un the NewPages special. Could you next time please do so? Regards and thanks, abf /talk to me/ 16:04, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

VERY late I've come across this one - sorry. I hadn't realised that was the case (although obvious when you think). I had come across other ones like this which I guess others have made happen. I'll certainly mark them in future & thanks for the info. --Herby talk thyme 08:28, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note[edit]

Would you mind taking a look on this? I'm not sure if they're abusing multiple accounts but almost all edits on the page is just spamming. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 16:05, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure I see any connection between the edits but I'll look some more. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 16:22, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

George Devol[edit]

Why did you delete the photo of George Devol from [Industrial Robot]? This photo was contributed by George Devols grandson. How can that not be fair use? I've been patiently looking after this one page for a few years, and have battled vandalism, blatant advertizing and well meaning people who simply don't know what they are talking about. But this is my first experience of admin arbitrarily removing important content. Such photos of George Devol are rare - almost any of them will be copyright. This unique photo was from his own grandson. Please put the photo back, it was a mistake to remove it as far as I know. Robotics1 (talk)

If you are the same person who has been posting without reading my replies on my en wp talk page you have tried my patience enough with this one now.
It was on Wikipedia which allows "fair use". Commons does not allow fair use. As such Commons would be in violation of its policies to keep the image here. Equally I would be wrong to restore an incorrectly licensed image. Please read about this rather than keep going on at me.
You should be able to have the image on Wikipedia which allows fair use - we don't. --Herby talk thyme 06:54, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have not been posting there. I answer all messages I get, which is none because no-one ever bothers to discuss this page. Where is your en wp talk page exactly? I should go there. If this has been discussed already then I'm sorry, I was not aware of it. I have just been patiently maintaining [Industrial Robot] for 3 years. It has a talk page but no-one ever posts there. The last post was me a year ago and no-one answered. Surely if there is an issue with the page that would be the place to raise it?
OK I am obviously not familiar with the workings of Wikipedia and Wikimedia. Am I right in thinking that Wikimedia is a parking place for media referred to from Wikipedia?
I still don't understand what was wrong with the picture? It was not copyright. It had the permission of the owners. It is still on answers.com. If they can show it why can't we? I read the fair use policy here and it simply seems to refer to copyright material and this is not copyright. But as I said, I may need this explaining to me, please. You say "commons does not allow fair use". In what way is this picture fair use and why is it not allowed? This is not a challenge or an argument, I am just asking so I understand it.
finally can I put the picture up on the page without it being part of commons? In that case how do I do it? 23 october 2008 Robotics1 (talk)

Thanks[edit]

Commons requires a little tiding.

Hi, thanks for trusting me as admistrator. I will be trying to make a good use of this tools, and using it with care. Surely this will motivate me to work more on the project, as well as in other areas ;) Sfu (talk) 09:31, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿Que pasó con la imagen que subí de Brtiney Spears???[edit]

Bueno, hablo en español, pero seré preciso con lo que sé de inglés. Why you delete this photo? File:BritneyOso.jpg, the source says that the Paparazzi put with a license of cc-by or somethin like that: Look: Or i',m liynig????? Have this license. --Daviddavid0100 (talk) 19:21, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The flickr uploader doesn't have the rights to release that image under a free license, as they aren't really the owner of that image. Best regards, --Kanonkas(talk) 19:35, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes as Kanonkas stated - the licensing was fake. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 08:19, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:AccelerEyesLogo.png[edit]

Why do you say that this image is not in the scope of Wikimedia Commons? Where else should I upload the logo for the Wikipedia pages AccelerEyes? Thank you.

Well - when I saw this version of your user talk page there I felt as en wp had deleted the article a number of times & blocked you from editing that it was not within our scope. --Herby talk thyme 07:50, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Herby it was good to read that info. I have closed the request as not done. Sterkebaktalk 08:24, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - however the article does now exist on en wp (another user has created it.....) so there may still be some issues to resolve here. If I find anything out I will let you know. Thanks & regards --Herby talk thyme 08:26, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can upload the image local on the en.wiki. It is only used on that wiki. Maybe that solves the problem. Sterkebaktalk 08:37, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not certain that the article is valid yet (& the logo is there). Equally I am interested by the "new" person who re-created the article... --Herby talk thyme 08:39, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I get it. Time for a CU. :) Sterkebaktalk 08:41, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There do seem to be one or two people involved with re-creating the article on en wp. Given how recently it was formed & the fact that it would appear it is the CEO who we are dealing with then at best there is a conflict of interest. The image is on en wp so I'm inclined to think it is now their problem. Thanks for your help. --Herby talk thyme 13:15, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image[edit]

Hello , I want ask , why you deleted the image for Spice Girls ? this image existed in wikipedia as "Full Image" and I just cropped it and upload again , I will Upload this file again and I will write all the copyrights information , I hope that's will be good , and if not good just tell me , what can I do Exactly ? --Centrino (talk) 12:56, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It appears to be a cropped image from a cd cover. As such it is highly unlikely that it can be acceptably licensed for use on Commons. At best such images are "fair use" (see here - acceptable on en wp but not on Commons)) and otherwise are copyright violations. It is extremely likely it will be tagged and deleted again.--Herby talk thyme 13:00, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you see to image I upload it ,Please, I want from you to put Permission for Image, Like (cover of an audio recording) if you can , I don't want to delete this image again

Please read what I have written above. This image cannot be correctly licensed for keeping on Commons. Sorry --Herby talk thyme 13:46, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question About my wiki[edit]

Hello. My name is Paul and I work for the US Army. I tried to put up two wikis on Sepetember 4th that you instantly removed for "blatant advertising." We are trying to place accurate information on the Army's equipment and are not trying to sell anything as Army equipment is not available for public sale. Could you please let me know what I have to do to ensure that the wikis I plan to create about Army equipment does not get deleted? I can be reached at paul.wein@us.army.mil.

Thank you.

OK - I need some help on this. The phrase "blatant advertising." suggests to me that this was not here but on Wikipedia. However I do need something in the way of an actual page name so that I can try and give you an answer to this. If it was here not Wikipedia again a page name would be great. I delete quite a bit on a daily basis so finding things is not that easy. Otherwise let me have your user name? Thanks --Herby talk thyme 15:06, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Herby. Thanks for the help. The site was Project Manager Mobile Electric Power and the other was Warfighter Information Network-Tactical. I would appreciate any advice as to why they were deleted. Also, if you could tell me what to do going forward so they won't be deleted. And it was on Wikipedia, not here (although I do not know the difference between them).

Thank you so very much.

OK - that makes it much easier :). You are here on en wp. I've restored Project Manager Mobile Electric Power, the other page is still there. I accept the fact that it isn't advertising (now it is explained & I've looked at it again) but they can be quite fussy there :). However I confess I am not sure it is an encyclopaedic article so you may still hit some issues. Hope it goes ok - regards --Herby talk thyme 18:28, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your assistance with this matter. You were a great help to me!

Lurtz.jpg[edit]

The image Lurtz.jpg is my. --FilWriter (talk) 19:04, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No it is not "yours", it belongs to the company who made the film I'm afraid. Sorry --Herby talk thyme 19:19, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Thanks for the welcome. And no problem picking up the copyvio. I'm a regular (too regular perhaps!) ed on wikipdeia, and pictures like that stand out as copyvios, fans just don't get touchline seats to take pics like that! --Ged UK (talk) 21:02, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

van Gogh Cleanup Project '08[edit]

Hi, you'd be more than welcome to give badly needed feedback on Category talk:Vincent van Gogh to my ideas on thisone, and to possibly promote it among competent people. Most of it is about technical "how-to", about filenames, sub-categories, etc. -- no need to be expert in van Gogh. Thanks, --WeHaWoe (talk) 08:24, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Block[edit]

Hi! I saw you blocked and unblocked User:Pontevedra78 after my report. Please, reblock him again. He has uploaded several images with copyright and I think it's better to block the user. I delete my report cause I don't know that you have blocked him. I'm so sorry for the inconvenients. Cheers --Dferg (T-ES) 10:33, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK - I blocked because I saw your appeal (& agreed). When you withdrew I thought maybe I should do "good faith" too. Blocked again now - seems like one of those user who maybe does not learn well. Regards --Herby talk thyme 10:37, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. I think one week would be perfect. I have translated the templates and I gave him a last final warning in spanish. I hope you could apologize me for this. Best regards.

Deletion request[edit]

I see that you're a sysop. I'm a bit of a n00b in file deletion and I think I must've done something wrong with Image:River Erme at Ivybridge.png, because it hasn't been looked at. Could you delete it for me? EvP (talk) 18:58, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Ah, just found a duplicate on the English Wikipedia (Image:ErmeIvybridge.jpg) EvP (talk) 19:19, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
