Starship9000[edit]

I believe User:Tajikistan106 may be sock puppet for User:Starship9000, and marked the user page as such. Dan Koehl (talk) 06:03, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like you were correct and looks like it has been taken care of. Thanks for the note. Regards --Herby talk thyme 15:46, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Spam blacklist not working[edit]

You blacklisted 007soccerpicks.net on the 1st, but I've just blocked 2 accts spamming that same domain today: Jawanhobe & Sahihalarkay. INeverCry 22:46, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Damn - I did wonder. Given the issue with Linksearch I guess this might be related. Will ask around. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 06:47, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like using word boundaries (\\b) does not work (http://regexr.com/3e77h), well, at least \b \b would work. I removed the boundaries from the recent spam links (as far i can see false/positive are unlikely in that case when not using \b). --Steinsplitter (talk) 14:06, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Files by User Lokomotive74[edit]

Hello Herbythyme, in February 2016 you deleted three files uploaded by User:Lokomotive74 for "Copyright violation", namely File:Sarah Romert.jpg, File:Mana Iwabuchi.jpg and File:RaffaellaManieri.jpg. As far as I know this user is legit (his Flickr where he generally uses a Commons-incompatible license, though) and has added quite a few of his own photographies over the last eight years. Could you clarify why exactly you assumed a violation of copyright in these cases? Regards --Headlocker (talk) 12:40, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Which Commons would be the right one Headlocker? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lokomotive74 (talk • contribs) 19:40, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Do I really have to take this issue to the Commons:Administrators' noticeboard, Herbythyme? --Headlocker (talk) 17:18, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies - I've been away and I'm not around as much as I'd like. The files appear to be copyrighted - Copyright holder THAI-FUSSBALL.COM - being the rationale. I'll look further in what will be tomorrow for me however this may well be Flickr washing I guess. More tomorrow. --Herby talk thyme 17:59, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, have a look at http://www.thai-fussball.com/Content-Redaktion-und-Team-item-130.html . A user named "lokomotive" is credited as founder and editor of thai-fussball.com. I'm still claiming that there is zero copyright violation or license whitewashing involved whatsoever. Much rather a case of a user overburdened with Commons licensing + language barrier, I suppose. --Headlocker (talk) 20:25, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK and again with apologies for overlooking this). I've undeleted these based on your logic which I agree with. However Commons being Commons (...!) I think licensing via OTRS would be desirable to prevent any future misunderstanding. Would it be possible for you to convey that message - given the language issues you might get it over better. Thanks for your help in this. Regards --Herby talk thyme 11:39, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you as well a request[edit]

Hi,
I am grateful and thankful to you that you added me Autopatrolled User Group. However, Rollback tool would be very helpful to me as i'm focusing on counter-vandalisms. Best Regards, Born4People (talk) 14:32, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I did think about it myself. Please use tools with care but thanks for the help. --Herby talk thyme 14:37, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ofcourse, I'll handel the tools carefully. Thank you :-) Born4People (talk) 14:54, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures of Dr Drew Hall[edit]

Hello, There are about three pictures of Dr Drew Hall that I obtained with his permission to use for a series of pages on Chiropratics. You deleted the pictures on 17th and 18th of January 2017. I must let you know that they violate no copyright laws since the owner himself makes it open for all to use. Regards, --Yazid Abdullah (talk) 11:19, 19 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

still needed?[edit]

While doing some cleanup I found your unlinked MediaWiki:Watchlist id. Is that page still needed? --Achim (talk) 20:42, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Puzzling! I'll take a look at that just to see if I can remember anything at all about it! Thanks --Herby talk thyme 11:11, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yep - looks redundant - gone - thanks --Herby talk thyme 09:31, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your feedback matters: Final reminder to take the global Wikimedia survey[edit]

(Sorry to write in Engilsh)

Hi there. You deleted this file and also File:160911 YN.jpg and File:SechsKies SK2.jpg following speedy deletion requests with the only rationale "The source website re-uploaded photos belonging to third parties and can't claim any copyright on them." These files were originally posted at Tistory which hosts user-generated content. I think without solid evidence like a link to another page where the files were posted earlier without a free licence, they should not have been deleted at all. At least the speedy deletions should have been converted to regular DRs to claim evidence for this alleged licence laundering. Please consider restoring the files. De728631 (talk) 14:53, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Frankly they are pretty transparently professional PR images without valid licensing to me (one watermarked too). I will look again however they really do look very very much like copyright violations. I'd be far happier if there was OTRS permission (even pending). --Herby talk thyme 15:17, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That's right they do look professional, but I'm not yet convinced that this is licence laundering. Please see also Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Lovelovelove681. De728631 (talk) 15:20, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I understand what you are saying however I am equally convinced these are likely to be professional images. I'll give a final answer within 24 hours. --Herby talk thyme 15:42, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

OK - I've undeleted these two and added them to the DR. I actually still think these are copyvios partly because of the small size however I am less certain than I was! Cheers --Herby talk thyme 11:44, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just a comment: Herby was correct here. (See my comment on DR.) — regards, Revi 13:57, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your VFC installation method is deprecated[edit]

Hello Herbythyme, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. Thanks! --VFC devs (q) 16:24, 22 May 2017 (UTC)

Socks you dealt with[edit]

I see that you're on a break but since you handled this mess less than a day back, I'm bringing it back to you:

are two other socks with uploads here, from the Dipanker g (talk · contribs) set that you blocked a few hours back. The more comprehensive list (including ones not on Commons yet) is at en:Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Dipanker g.

Hope you can deal with these two too. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 07:23, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Sorted. Blocked and copyvios nuked.
I'm an illusion really ;-)
If it's urgent the admin boards should be quicker but you never know...
Feel free to try me if you want but it might not be speedy. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 11:34, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Author of File:Zara 2017.jpg Daniil Golovkin (Даниил Головкин) sent permission to the OTRS to publish and use. Check, please: info@danilgolovkin.com. --Floridorus (talk) 13:45, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored the file based on your request however you must get an OTRS volunteer to confirm it and put the template on the image. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 13:50, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright violations get deleted[edit]

Hi Herbythyme! You deleted one image I uploaded a couple of days ago File:BUC 3-11-2016-1.jpg. How can I publish it accoringly to wikimedia commons rule? thanks.

Hello

I'm writing you as one of the most active Commons users right now. Since a while now, the idea of a dedicated Commons conference has been floating around. But since the last Wikimania concrete steps have been taken to actually make it happen next year. If you're interested in participation or maybe willing to help organize the first ever Commons Conference, I invite you to check out the project page and leave your comments; or just show your support for the idea, by signing up.

Cheers,

--Touzrimounir (talk) 22:17, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to Blocking tools consultation[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation's Anti-Harassment Tools team is inviting all Wikimedians to discuss new blocking tools and improvements to existing blocking tools in December 2017 for development work in early 2018.

We are specifically contacting you for your ideas because you are one of the top users of the blocking tool on Commons. We think that your comments will help us make better improvements. You can post to the discussion in the language that you are most comfortable expressing your ideas.

Other ways that you can help[edit]

  1. Spread the word that the consultation is happening; this is an important discussion for making decisions about improving the blocking tools.
  2. Help with translation.
  3. If you know of current or previous discussions about blocking tools that happened on your wiki, share the links.
  4. Help summarize the discussion to share back to your wiki.

If you have questions you can contact me on wiki or send an email to the Anti-Harassment Tools team.

For the Anti-Harassment Tools team, SPoore (WMF), Community Advocate, Community health initiative (talk) 17:31, 18 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I apologize for posting in English.
  • Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

Very best wishes to you too George - hope all is well and that 2018 is a good year for you and your family. --Herby talk thyme 10:09, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You deleted the referenced image for the following reason: "CCopyright violation, see c:Commons:Licensing". We own the image and this version was uploaded to commons by us (the copyright holder). If you would like to confirm by emailing my address at the server that originally uploaded the file to the web, that is fine and I will provide with the information. Please undo your deletion. How can I prevent this from occurring again as it is frustrating? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PopTalk (talk • contribs)

User talks[edit]

Hi. I think User:Jessejess could use a warning. Thanks. --E4024 (talk) 08:21, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Seems sorted but thanks --Herby talk thyme 11:16, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Herbythyme! Always good to see you being active here. I hope you don't mind me undoing your tagging on this occasion.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but it's pretty easy to find the proper source for a deeplinked Flickr image like https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4133/5026494266_12dee11d12_b.jpg. Just take the part of the filename before the underscore (5026494266) and pass it like https://www.flickr.com/photo.gne?id=5026494266. (I use a quick search bookmark to make it even easier.) LX (talk, contribs) 11:47, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, it turned out to be a low-resolution duplicate, so I ended up tagging it for deletion anyway. LX (talk, contribs) 11:52, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - I've learnt something which is always good :-) --Herby talk thyme 12:24, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Hey there. May I ask which gadget did you use to place blocking templates on user talk pages? Manually placing them is a bit troublesome. Jianhui67 TC 09:41, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes - I had to do it manually I might not bother...!
Preferences -> Gadgets -> User Messages. Handy as are some other ones there - almost impossible to do deletion requests without the DelReqHandler thing. Hope it helps & regards --Herby talk thyme 09:46, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the swift reply! Ah, I get it now. I did not there is such a feature. I use DelReqHandler to close DRs haha. Jianhui67 TC 10:27, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to help. The message one is useful and covers most things well enough. Regards --Herby talk thyme 10:30, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
