Thanks for uploading File:Urumqi Glacier No. 1 Annual Mass Balance.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

- @Magog the Ogre: hi, Magog the Ogre, thanks for let me know the copyright status of File:Urumqi Glacier No. 1 Annual Mass Balance.png. I already updated the license-header by using Template:Cc-by-sa-4.0, but I'm not sure it's right or not. This is my first time to upload a file that need a license (not create by myself).
- I find the copyright information from here, they said "WGMS data are open access under the requirement of correct citation (see database version), which corresponds to a CC BY 4.0 license by Creative Commons". The database version shows that the correct citation is 10.5904/wgms-fog-2018-11. And this graph is what I uploaded, and the doi of database version is 10.5904/wgms-fog-2018-11 too. So I think the copyright of this graph is under CC BY 4.0 license by Creative Commons.
- And if the license-header is still wrong (I hope not), could u let me know how to fix it. thanks--HaziiDozen (talk) 05:10, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
- It looks like the WSGS released the data under cc-by-4.0. Their site says nothing about the other creative works like graphs. However, this graph is simple to the point that is is not copyrightable. I have tagged it as such. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:07, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)

![]() Thank you for uploading some images!
Did you know that Wikimedia Commons recommends the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format for certain types of images? Scalable Vector Graphics are designed to look appropriate at any scale, and SVG images are easier to modify and translate, helping Wikimedia to distribute knowledge to all of the world. A lot of modern programs support SVG export. If you encountered problems or have questions, don't hesitate to ask me, a member of the Graphic Lab, or the Graphics village pump. Uploading images in SVG format isn't mandatory, but it would help. (To avoid any misunderstandings, please don't just put raster images into an SVG container as embedded raster.) Thanks, and happy editing!

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.--そらみみ (talk) 04:52, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Categories
[edit]Thanks for your contributions. Please note that when categorizing your files: generally, the category you put for the file uploaded should answer the question "what, where and when", and "always place an image in the most specific categories, and not in the levels above those". Thanks for your understanding! MNXANL (talk) 03:36, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your photos!
