First, let me thank you for liking the satellite images I made!
To create them, I used "World Wind", the NASA developped satellite picture vizualisation program, which is nice enough to use public domain shots. I saved two screenshots, one with country borders drawn, one without. I merged them in a graphics editor (I used Photoshop, but any would do), using borders to select which parts had to be shadowed.
You asked why this pic has a bad resolution - it's just because I am a photographer and I don't it this to be abused. So I put on the wikicommon logo to identify it as the only "common" version. Hello - thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries) or put the images directly into a category, or do both. To find good categories for your images, the CommonsSense tool may help.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now. Topic categories are generally different from license-categories... I would have expected those images directly under Category:Finnish coats of arms, because splitting a topic category by license does not make much sense to me. Anyway, since Category:PD Coa Finland can be found under Category:Finnish coats of arms, it's not a huge problem. But I still think license categories should be kept separate from topic categories.

Hi Hautala! I noticed that you uploaded some svg graphics which depict Finnish traffic signs after I read your question at Village pump. The thing ist, that you actualley are not creating real vector graphics at the moment. What you're doing is embedding pixel images into a svg (vector) file (you can recognize it by the pixel steps of the outlines). I believe that your source (wmf) files are badly drawn (typical for wmf) so that it's no real advantage to make svg files of them. I'd suggest redrawing them as I did it for an example with Image:571.svg if it isn't too diffcult. I'd like to look at one of these wmf files if possible. Diagrams of the traffic signs number 573 and 574 (entering and exiting a living street) are needed in Finnish Wikipedia. Many others might be useful in the future, at least number 189 (other hazard). Oikean keltainen (kultainen) väri esiintyy myös puolustusvoimien kotisivuilla, puolustusvoimien lehdessä Ruotuväessä olevassa puolustusvoimien tunnuksessa sekä maavoimien tunnustiedostossa ja merivoimien tunnustiedostossa. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results:
We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).
In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)
We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:
