If you wont, you can use my picture "Palermo panorama.JPG" if you write "mattaurizio"

You can write me, (mattaurizio2@katamail.com) i send other palermo's pictures or sicilian.

Bye, mattaurizio.

Hi Haro, unfortunately there is no easy way to "move" or rename images. You have to upload the image again with the name you want, then mark the old one for speedy deletion by putting this on the image description page: {{Speedydelete}} Uploaded twice, bad one at [[:Image:Great Belt Bridge .jpg]]. ~~~~

Or you can just let me know when you've uploaded it again, and I'll delete it promptly. :) cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 00:00, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hei Haros. Hilsen Kjetil r 00:12, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch. Haros 21:23, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Problems in uploading images[edit]

Hi Hans, thank you for your new beautiful photos. I saw you had some problems in recent uploads (User:Haros/gallery), probably it'is a Commonist bug, as the same happened to me some days ago. --Marcok 11:50, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The really strange thing was that when those pictures were uploaded they did not show in latest files, neither at the unsuccessful time or the successful one.
More pictures will come. Of the villas on the world heritage list there is only the one in Verona I don't have a picture of. As this was an access problem, perhaps I should have taken a picture of the completely uninteresting back and uploaded that. :-)
Some of the villas are in a terrible state though.
I also have pictures of the bridges and some unfinished projects. I don't know how complete I'm with respect to pictures in Vicenza, but in Venezia it is only what he might have done within the Doge's Palace I dont have pictures of. Then obviously there are the Udine things missing.
Chiao, and say hello from me. Haros 18:16, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Image deletion warning Image:Torri dell'Arsenale.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Redentore[edit]

Hallo, I'm not completely sure I understood what you tell me. Actually, I am moving ALL categories within Venice to comply with rules of Wikipedia, which say "Category:Name of the place (Venice)", not: "Category:Name of the place in Venice" as it was. By the way it was me who had created the category in the first place and I was told to change its name to comply. All of the subcategorisation was now moved to the new category: when you saw it I did not just complete the work (sometimes I have to sleep, you know).

As for the second thing, I do not remove licenses from pictures, never, but I may have made it by mistake, of course: nobody is perfect. Could you kinldy give me the url of the picture so that I can check about it? Thank you. --User:G.dallorto 10:50, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not against the move. That makes perfect sense, and your effort in doing that is appreciated. The problem with doing it is that it may break other things. There are links to commons from Wikipedia pages, also to common categories. When a category is emptied that link does not make sense anymore. This is not easy to keep track of on the individual Wikipedia using these links, as it is a change to a page on your watchlist that is significant, yet not shown. Thus it can easily take months before someone discovers it and corrects it. You know that this change happens, and can scan the different Wikipedias for such usage. It is more work, sure, but if you do it you will not contribute to the myth that commons is a place to avoid putting pictures that some maintains. (There are those who says to me that I should not put my pictures on commons because there all kind of bad things might happen to them.)
The picture where you actually did remove the license is the one you linked to a few lines above. I'm sure you did not intend to do it, but what I noticed was that when you requested its deletion you did not check the history of the picture to see if there might have been a license there earlier. I'm not here on commons every day, not necessarily every month and might not have seen your deletion request until the picture was gone, unless someone else took the task to check the history. Check the history before making a deletion request - that is my main plea to you.
I can see that the category is now complete - that is fine. Haros 12:47, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion request[edit]

Pardon my mix-up, but I meant that the en.wp version was nominated for deletion as a derivative work without information on the original source. The now-deleted edits on en.wp don't really say much. But if the now-deleted no.wp edits give us more information, then that's fine, I just wanted to bring it up based on what we knew on en.wp.

I'm not too concerned about the en.wp version, regardless, as the Commons version shows through now. RG2 02:02, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Category" Villa Angarano[edit]

I have enjoyed looking at your photos. I have linked Commons material to several villa articles. Not knowing much about Commons, I have been puzzled about the word "category" showing in the link to Commons material on Villa Angarano.

--Alanmaher 22:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the kind words about my photos. It is nice to take pictures when they can be useful.
The category means that the pictures belongs in a category. Similar to categories for articles. It is just that when you look at a category page you can see the pictures there, not just the title as with articles. The category thus also is a dynamic gallery page. In the article on the English wp the word category comes from the template that was used. Hope I understood your question. Haros 16:24, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thank-you this explains things for me.

I was a bit concerned about an apparent discrepancy; in some of the articles on the villas the commons link refers simply to the villa in question, whereas with Angarano the link is to category villa angarno. However, I don't think this matters. --Alanmaher 19:28, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ciao! Really I discovered it only as I uploaded the originale drawing of Villa Trissino form CISA website. ;) I began to create the articles for all palladian works in it.wiki: the result is good - thanks to your shots - but it will take a long time. After that, I suppose I'll make the same in en.wiki, if no one will do it in the meanwhile (I hope so). ;) --Marcok 20:10, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

o.k., i have started the category you have suggested. may be you can help by giving me a list of romanesque churches in norway, coz i am not very much familiar with norway... --Ceterum censeo capitalismum esse delendam (talk) 16:13, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not an expert, but I was adviced that most of the relevant churches would belong to more than one period. The category for medieval stone churches of Norway would contain them all I would think. Haros (talk) 22:05, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
hi, meanwhile the category looks like comprehensive, i have also checked ""Medieval stave churches" and "ruins" in Norway where i have found some more romanesque churches in norway. actually the total amount is 65 romanesque churches which is more than i have thought (more than scotland and poland together for exp.). the most work will be france with several thousands romanesque churches (which must be divided in regions or even in departments)... btw. the category "wooden churches in Norway" is nearly equal to "churches in Norway" because the majority of the norvegian churches is wooden... ---Ceterum censeo capitalismum esse delendam (talk) 13:08, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

A mistake from developer Tim Starling resulted in the accidental deletion of 496 full-resolution images. A list of the affected images at Wikimedia Commons was made by PatrícaR and can be found here. As one of your images was found on the list, I'm asking you if you could re-upload the image Kochi chinese fishing-net-20080215-01a.jpg from your hard disk, with the comment Restoring image, see [http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/commons-l/2008-September/004148.html].

Ukjent gate[edit]

Indian Districts[edit]

Hello Haros. I love your Indian district maps. Unfortunately the Indian district infoboxes are disorganized. I would like to do what you have done with some states, and make all states like that. I'm new to mapbuilding on Wikipedia; I know you took the original state maps and coloured in districts. Could you please tell me what program you used to do this? I've looked around Wikipedia and am still pretty confused. Thanks! Sorry if it's a stupid question.

PhnomPencil (talk) 10:38, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I actually used Emacs. The maps are files in svg format, which is a text format. Just by changing the color-code for one district, you in fact have a new map. The main job was identifying the districts to save the file with the correct name. Download the files themselves for two maps, and use a diff program, and you will see what I did change. If I remember correctly each map had a cost of about 20 keystrokes. Thus my effort has been far smaller than the two original authors of the map - a really great map for which we can be happy to have. Haros (talk) 16:27, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Wiki Loves Public Art about to take off!

Dear Haros,
During May we are running Wiki Loves Public Art, a photo contest focused on getting photographs of artworks and sculptures uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.

Have a look at the lists of objects included, and of participating GLAMs in your country, and upload as many images as you can.

Kind regards,

the organizers of Wiki Loves Public Art

Appropriately Licensed[edit]

You participated at the earlier discussion on licence choice for Featured Pictures. A number of users felt that such restrictions should be made at policy level. Please comment at Commons:Requests for comment/AppropriatelyLicensed. This is a proposal to amend this licence policy to disallow future uploads where the sole licence is inappropriate for the media (e.g., GFDL for images). In earlier discussions there were a number of comments that, while reasonable opinions, did not align with Wikimedia's mission for free content. Please read the FAQ before commenting. Thanks -- Colin (talk) 23:02, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2013! Please help with this survey.

Dear Haros,
Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2013, and for sharing your pictures with the whole world! We would like to ask again a few minutes of your time.

Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 365,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from more than 50 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place.

You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet).

If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help.

To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2013.

Kind regards,

the Wiki Loves Monuments team

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 startet in Kürze[edit]

Hallo Haros,

Bots[edit]

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:03, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Der WLM-Countdown hat begonnen[edit]

Hallo Haros,

Concorso Wiki Loves Monuments Italia 2018 (English version)

Grazie, Nemo 16:06, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments 2018[edit]

Hei! Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 18:39, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments 2019[edit]

Hallo Haros,

/Axel Pettersson (WMSE) (talk) 15:31, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Erzväteraltar Nikolaikirche Kiel | Details[edit]

Dear Haros, is this cropping and post-processing of the photo okay for you in this form? Detail-Version I'll need it as illustration for Johann von Ahlefeldt (1399–1463) I would also need two more cut-outs. Joadl (talk)

@ Joadl: I can see that I cropped and rotated the image of the complete altar. I would have done the same and probably have ended up with a similar result to your version if I had taken the time to do it for the details. So yes, you have my explicit blessing in addition to the blessing the license gives you.
I upload images with the hope that someone may find the need to use them. I am pleased that you find this use for it. Haros (talk) 09:03, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New photos of the interior of Santa Maria Nova by Palladio[edit]

Hi Haros! Hope you are fine. Finally the church of S. Maria Nova in Vicenza was opened (just for last weekend), so I took many photos. Best, Marcok (talk) 20:46, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
