Hi George-I would have written this note earlier had I known the software "tagged" you too. I thought it only notified the last person who altered the file. Unless I'm sure that the file is PD or if I have additional information re: proof that it is, I don't work with it--just my personal practice. ;) We hope (talk) 19:13, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Allan warren

Hi George, have just read your entry about attribution. Not sure how it all works what is the difference between the one you suggest and now?

Best,

Allan

George Nader police photo

This was not part of the film but was a publicity photo taken when the City of Boston made him an honorary police chief shortly before the film made its debut in Boston. It was filmed there and they also arranged to have its premiere there. Universal had this photo taken, then distributed it to the media to publicize the film. It sure can't be part of the film as that was "in the can" long before this photo was taken. We hope (talk) 06:52, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

George,
This is on the order of "Mr or Ms. Movie/Television/Music Celebrity" comes to town, meets with the city's mayor and has a photo op as the mayor gives the celeb a key to the city. If the star is filming a movie or television show or giving a concert, the key to the city stuff doesn't go into it. We hope (talk) 07:27, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Press release

It's dated, we know the source of the story and the message is just what you see-on the front page. It isn't anything that was confidential but was distributed to various media outlets--probably with a photo of the actress. I don't see this as being anything but PD-pre 1978. We hope (talk) 00:25, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

I don't see why not. When we get many of the PD photos, they often have press releases pasted on the back of them. Have never seen one of these releases with a copyright mark. I don't see this as any different than the press releases on the backs of the photos. We hope (talk) 02:38, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Are you Wikinger?

Someone identify you as Wikinger. The confession that you gave me were false, wasn't it? Probably you were under pressure, so I'll not pressure you. If you don't want to admit it, that won't be my problem. However, you must know that your talk page privileges will be revoked if you prove yourself to be disruptive here. If you try to evade your blocks, I'll make sure that your other IPs (and other accounts) are blocked. By the way, you misunderstood the 1st Amendment of the U.S.: the Amendment prohibits the federal government censorship on free speech or expression, but it doesn't prohibit anybody or any state from making rules about free speech or expression. --George Ho (talk) 18:13, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

George, yes, this was published before 1964, but there are no copyright marks on it, so why did you change the license? We hope (talk) 23:19, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

The other tag said, "may or may not have copyright notice". But that's conclusive, isn't it? --George Ho (talk) 20:47, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

I placed a {{Copyvio}} flag on File:Philip-bailey-easy-lover-duet-with-phil-collins-1985.jpg, becaus it seems to be a digitalisation of a copyrighted cover.
