Font question

Hi. I Was just looking at your Canadian election maps (File:Canada 2008 Federal Election.svg) to try and create one for another year. However I can't figure out which font you've used for the party candidate names. It looks very similar to Bitstream Vera Sans but it's not identical. Alternatively if it is Bitstream Vera Sans could you tell me which version you have installed, so that I can hunt it down online =) Thanks /Lokal_Profil 01:38, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Is it possibly "Gotham Medium"? /Lokal_Profil 01:51, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
No worries, hunted down a copy of Gotham Medium and that was the one. =) /Lokal_Profil 03:47, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Yep, it was Gotham Medium. Gage (talk) 09:25, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Another couple of questions. Did you use Gotham Medium for the "LIB, CON, NDP" labels as well, can't get a font size to match. Also what did you use as a basis for the width of the coloured bars? The 49 in QC is wider then the 51 in ON so I'm slightly confused. It's a great map though =) /Lokal_Profil 17:34, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
It might be Gotham Bold, I don't think I changed fonts, just the weight of the font. And I think that might have been a mistake on my part. I did not use any sort of device to measure how long the bar should be, I'm pretty sure I just based it on the PNG version that was uploaded. But I cannot remember exactly. Feel free to change it, as I think it would be better for informational purposes. Gage (talk) 18:27, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
I've upped the 2006 map here. Please take a look an see if there is anything you dislike. if not I'll convert your version to the same standard i.e. party order same for all provinces (and title), bar lengths redefined. I've also done some standardisation of stroke-widths, bar hights, alignments and other miscellaneous details which no-one is likely ever to notice =). /Lokal_Profil 00:22, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
That looks great. Glad I could be of assistance. Gage (talk) 12:21, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello

Hello, Gage. I've noticed that you've uploaded several amazing quality pictures of Comic Con, most particularly those from Family Guy panels. Well, I've been working on the Wikipedia Dan Povenmire article and things related to his many shows; Povenmire was a longtime director for Family Guy and has attended Comic Con in past. I know I may be taking a shot in the dark, but did you happen to take any with him in the picture? It'd really help me with his article; if you don't I completely understand and thank you for your time, but if you do that'd be great.

Cheers, SuperFlash101 (talk) 17:03, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm not aware that Povenmire attended. The Family Guy panel included writer Steve Callaghan, director Mark Hentemann, Mila Kunis, Seth Green, Alex Borstein, producer Kara Vallow, Seth MacFarlane and writer/producer David A. Goodman, from left to right on the panel. I'll be attending the 2010 Comic Con though, and fully intend to go to the Family Guy panel once more, so if he's there next year, I'll be sure to get a shot of him. Thanks. Gage (talk) 19:49, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Alright, thanks anyways! He's actually left Family Guy in order to create Phineas and Ferb, but I figured he might have attended it in previous years. Thanks anyways! SuperFlash101 (talk) 20:57, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh, they had a Phineas and Ferb panel on that Sunday, which Povenmire actually attended, but I was in line for American Dad at that time. And I do not remember Povenmire ever attending the Family Guy panel. It's been more or less the same people, save a few voice actors. Anyway, thanks for the interest in my photos! Gage (talk) 23:08, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh, okay then. And no problem. SuperFlash101 (talk) 01:04, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

SD thanks

Gage,

I appreciate your graphic illustrations. Nothing like well constructed graphics to represent data that creates a clear/er understanding.

I trust you enjoyed your visit to San Diego for Comic Con.

Thank you. Gage (talk) 22:16, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

NJ State Election Map

Nice job on the NJ 2009 gubernatorial election map...but the orientation is not due north and it looks quite strange to this longtime NJ resident. Can you adjust it to due north? Thanks 68.39.105.170 22:36, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you are referring to, can you please provide an example of this? Gage (talk) 23:44, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Sure. New Jersey actually has a more Southwest to Northeast orientation than your map depicts and can easily be seen in this google image search. I'm guessing your map needs to be rotated 11-12 degress clockwise for its typical due north orientation. Hope that helps. 68.39.105.170 00:15, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay, done. Gage (talk) 00:25, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
Looks much better now but for some reason the new map is not displaying. 68.39.105.170 05:22, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Electoral College adds up to 539

Your graphics for the estimated electoral college appears to be based on a source that forgot the loss of one seat in Minnesota. For the Presidential election page 2012, I used the new Polidata source from Dec 2009 (already used on the Census 2010 page), which means a change to Arizona +1 (instead of +2), Texas +4 (instead of +3) and Minnsota -1 (instead of 0). Are you sure permission has been sent for this? I've ran many, many different searches through the OTRS Ticket system and no results have come through that relate to this image. Due to the high traffic that the subject is getting right now, I'd rather clear this licensing up as soon as possible. Technically, the file could be deleted right now due to there being no valid permission in the system ("If an email cannot be found in the OTRS system, this file may be deleted for lack of valid licensing information." -- from the OTRSPending tag). If you know the email address it was sent from, you could email me that via Special:EmailUser/Killiondude and that would be a surefire way of checking to see if it is in the system. Killiondude (talk) 08:07, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I sent the email moments after the image was uploaded. I can resend it to the permission email again, though I'm not sure why it wouldn't have been received. Gage (talk) 22:22, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
After manually scanning the newest tickets sent into the Commons' queue, I found it. This is just another example of a situation where the OTRS software shows itself to be less than desirable. In any case, it's all sorted. Thanks. Killiondude (talk) 06:14, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

AJOLIE.

I just saw your image on the Angelina Jolie wikipedia page and I have to say that it's an incredibly stunning shot. I was wondering if you have anymore HQ images of her at the Comic-Con and if you could possibly share details about what happened and what she was like in real life. Thanks again Gage, you're really talented with a camera. (:

Yes, I do have more photos. I will be uploading them to my Flickr photostream, which you can find here, most likely tonight, as there are very few Comic Con events to attend today. But thank you for the compliment, and please stay tuned for more photos from yesterday's Hall H events, as I was in the room all day, of which the Jolie event was the most hard to control the paparazzi. US Senate election in Illinois has 2 ballot items

I noticed you provided File:Illinois Senate Election Results by County, 2010.svg. I assume this is for the U.S. Senate, not Illinois Senate, since it appears on en:United States Senate elections in Illinois, 2010 right now. Things are going to get hairy with that November 2 election ballot, though: there's a normal item for 2011–2016, then a special item for December 2010. Just to make it more confusing, they will be in reverse chronological order on the ballot. Any naming convention for a second map? Also, are you in communication with the folks at en:Template talk:Infobox election? (They may need to change the infobox to have two maps, or maybe en:United States Senate elections in Illinois, 2010 just needs a second infobox, even though the court has ruled it has the same candidates.) --Closeapple (talk) 09:10, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Election maps

Gage, I notice you have uploaded a lot of maps (which, BTW, I think is cool, because I upload maps too). Two issues:

  1. However, on many of them, you simply mark them PD, not listing a source. Are you the original creator of the entire map, or did you get it from a blank map? This is quite important because the PD licensing template isn't correct if it's a derivative. For example there's File:Alaska Presidential Election Results by County, 2008.svg; is it perhaps derived from an image like File:Gray alaska.svg? If so, we'll need to go back and relicense these images (I can certainly help).
  2. Can you tell me where you got the county level data for the election results? The state of Alaska only breaks it down by state House precinct [1], so you'd have to interpret the data yourself or find it from someone else. I'm asking bc I want to create similar maps for Alaska by county for other elections. Either that, or (if you're in the business of creating blank maps), if you could create a map of Alaska by state house precinct. Magog the Ogre (talk) 08:51, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

Gage, I've asked nicely, could you please respond to my question? Thanks. Magog the Ogre (talk) 03:03, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Pennsylvania Senate election red, blue map

I don't think that's nitpicky... it's not uncommon for very late returns (e.g., coming in days later) to alter the final outcome, so I'm sure Gage had it right to begin with, but it changed. Can you point me to the map? I'll change it for you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 16:52, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Hello, Gage!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi Gage. I noticed these two uploads, the latter cropped from the former. The problem with the images is the source indicated is "Office of Congressman Bob Turner". Yet, if I go to http://bobturner.house.gov/ I can't find the main image anywhere. We need a more specific source than this. Regarding the File:GOP Straw Poll Results 2012.svg

Illinois is colored in with purple, meaning that Gingrich's measly 32 votes out of 98 (In the Winnebago County GOP straw poll)out weighs Paul's 1,907 out of 3,649 in the Illinois State Straw Poll. As a resident of Illinois, I believe it is only statistically fair that my state should be colored in with gold again.

I am a Paul supporter myself. And spent the two weeks before the straw poll trying to get Paul supporters to the poll via the Facebook page. If you wanted it to stay gold, you should've gone and casted a vote. Gage (talk) 03:06, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
Can you briefly explain on the image page how you are determining this? Hello,

My name is Hayley Doshay and I am an art director for the News and Review, an alt-weekly newspaper in Sacramento,CA, Chico, CA, and Reno, NV. I would like to request permission to use one of your photos on Mitt Romney on the cover of this week's Reno issue. It will just be part of a photo-illustration along with free-use, official portraits of Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, and Rick Santorum. I won't be able to put a credit right next to the photo, but will be able to put the credit on the inside somewhere, most likely on the mast-head. Please let me know if this would be possible. I am not a wiki commons user, but you can write me back at hayleyd@newsreview.com.

Thanks!!

en:Republican Party presidential primaries, 2012 uses your File:Republican Party presidential primaries results, 2012.svg in its infobox. It's occurred to a few of us that having solidly-colored states where the delegates are unchosen/unbound may give the false impression that the state's delegation supports that candidate.
