Qgis and FEVE maps

I completed drawing the whole FEVE narrow gauge network. (see My KML website) In the meantime my laptop crashed and had to be replaced. I am now ready the load the software again. I noted down the installation but I get stuck with choices I dont understand:

I started the installation:

Qgis Wien (2.8.2) installation After the license questions: Chose the parts you want to install: North Carolina data set, South dakota (Spearfish), Alaska data set

What the hell are these datasets and do they have any connection with projections of the North of Spain? This is not very user friendly for new users. I wont go beyond this point until I understand what I am doing.Smiley.toerist (talk) 10:19, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Could you convert the KML files to a SVG map? I suppose an conical East - West projection is best for this long distance (438 km). From there I could try to add details (stations, tunnels, etc) with Inkscape (I have to learn to use this tool also). Hi Smiley.toerist, I recently had the same problem of qgis not being installed correctly. As far as I remember, choosing a different download source fixed that (I may have used this one, don't remember). Those datasets you mentiopn are part of GRASS, you don't need them. If the alternative download doesn't work for you, I can try converting them to SVG, but that may take a while since I'll be traveling for at least a week. --El Grafo (talk) 11:29, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

• On June 15, search was broken on all wikis for several hours. [27] [28] [29]

• Many Labs tools were broken for several days. Almost all of them are back now. They may be missing some data for the last 10 days. [33] [34] [35]

Hi Hansmuller, thanks for reminding me. From you example I gather that the ID used for the single images (here: RMNH.ART.5) will stay the same, right? Then we could create a template which takes this ID as a parameter and automatically builds the source link(s) from that. There are several examples for templates like that, {{NARA-image}} being one of them (though that one uses a sub-template for generating the link). The easiest way would be to switch the url structure in the template by hand once the new structure is used on their website … --El Grafo (talk) 09:45, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

• The "Your preferences have been saved" message has changed. You can now see more easily what was saved when you change preferences several times. [78]
• You can now play Ogg video files in some browsers that don't support this format. This solution uses JavaScript and works on desktop browsers only for now. It will work on mobile later. [79]
• You can now use the same tools to edit style in VisualEditor on mobile as in desktop browsers. [80]
• It is now easier to see if there is a JavaScript error in a user or site script. [81]
• JavaScript authors:

Problems

• Older gadgets that are not using ResourceLoader are not loading anymore. They need to be updated. [97] [98]
• On August 12 the machine translation servers and the Content Translation tool didn't work. This was fixed on the same day. [99]

• VisualEditor will now automatically create a link when you type in or paste an ISBN, PMID, or RFC. [103][104]
• The link editor in VisualEditor is now a bit wider. It's now the same width as the automatic citation tool. [105]
• VisualEditor gadget authors can no longer use the backwards-compatibility module ext.visualEditor.viewPageTarget.init. Use ext.visualEditor.desktopArticleTarget.init instead. [106]
• Gadget writers can now use mediawiki.ForeignApi to communicate between different Wikimedia wikis. [107]

Hi, I note, like you, that the gallery does not interest many people. They give a lot of work. But in the future they could be useful to avoid waterlogging category. • You can now mention up to 50 users in a post and they will get a notification. Previously you could notify up to 20 users. [109]
• A new version of the Wikidata Toolkit has been released. It now has Wikibase API support. [110]
• You can now use Wikidata to find all good or featured articles in a Wikipedia version. [111]

Problems

• There was a problem with Tool Labs due to kernel issues. This has been fixed. [112]
• The Content Translation tool published some pages with the same reference repeated several times. This has been fixed. [113][114]

Changes this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from September 8. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis from September 9. It will be on all Wikipedias from September 10 (calendar).
• The maximum character length when you search for something on the Wikimedia wikis is now 300 characters. [115]
• The notifications list has been split into two lists. As a first step, notifications about messages on your user talk page will be placed in the second list. Feedback is requested at the Echo talk page. [116][117]

• Belarusian-Taraškievica Wikipedia was moved from be-x-old.wikipedia.org to be-tarask.wikipedia.org. This caused some issues, but most of them were resolved. [122]
• Language preferences might not be changed immediately when you adjust them. Language selection might work slower. Please report any problems. [123][124]

Problems

• There was a problem when editing International Standard Book Numbers in Visual Editor. This has now been fixed. [125]
• The Wikimedia mailing lists should have been upgraded on September 9. It didn't work as planned and will now happen later. [126]

Hey El Grafo, da sich immer mehr MVR's ansammeln und so langsam der Überblick was schwer wird, wollte ich dich fragen, ob du nach fast gut zwei Wochen laufender Abstimmung (da du die Abstimmung "gestartet hast") mal über die Kandidaten drüberschauen könntest um ggf. schon eindeutige Abstimmung zu schließen und so dort etwas aufzuräumen :). Recent changes

• There is now an experimental Wikimedia maps service. You can give feedback here. [129][130]
• Last week a few issues with UploadWizard were fixed. Before this was done, UploadWizard would stop you from uploading your files if something went wrong. [131][132][133][134]
• More Wikipedias can now use information from any Wikidata item in any Wikipedia article. Previously they could only use the Wikidata item that matched the subject of the article. [135]
• The VisualEditor welcome dialogue has been changed. The intention is to make it more helpful for new users. [136]

Problems

• Wikimedia Labs' HTTPS certificate expired for most of Tuesday 15 September. To reach Wikimedia Labs and Tool Labs securely you had to ignore your browser's security error message. There was no risk to data security during this time. [137]
• Last week the notification system was split into two parts. This was temporarily undone because of a bug and performance concerns. It will return to two parts this week. [138][139]
• UploadWizard couldn't upload files larger than 5 MB when using chunked uploads. This has now been fixed. [140]

• The page move tool has been switched over to the new standard look for forms. [141]
