Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Thanks for uploading File:Привремена спогодба за спорот со името помеѓу Македонија и Грција.tif. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

File:Magellan's voyage MK.svg etc...[edit]

Hello.

Can you add the border of South Sudan, remove Vojvodina which never became independent and reunite Germany in File:Magellan's voyage MK.svg, File:Magellan's voyage EN.svg, File:Magellan's voyage-fr.svg, File:Magellan's voyage ET.svg, File:Magellan's voyage HU.svg, File:Magellan's voyage PL.svg, File:Magellan's voyage PT.svg, File:Magellan's voyage SR.svg, and File:Magellan's voyage zh-classical.svg?

Unfortunately I don't know how to edit SVG maps myself, that is why I asked you.

Thank you.

@Maphobbyist: I`m not in a position to take this task right now, maybe you can ask other users :) --Ehrlich91 (talk) 19:53, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. I did also ask other users. Kindest regards. Maphobbyist (talk) 12:08, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hello.

Can you add the border between Laos and Burma and the border between Malaysia and Indonesia in the central gap of Borneo which is missing in File:Malayo-Polynesian mk.svg, File:Nuclear Malayo-Polynesian mk.svg, File:Borneo-Philippines mk.svg, File:Malayo-Sumbawan languages mk.svg, File:Sunda-Sulawesi mk.svg, as well as in File:Malayo-Polynesian-en.svg, File:Malayo-Polynesian-es.svg, File:Malayo-Polynesian-ru.svg, File:Malayo-Polynesian-sr.svg, File:Borneo-Philippines.svg, File:Bornean languages-en.svg, File:Philippine languages map.svg, File:Nuclear Malayo-Polynesian.svg, File:Malayo-Sumbawan languages.svg and File:Sunda-Sulawesi.svg - by copying the borders from File:Malayo-Polynesian-de.svg?

Unfortunately I don't know how to edit SVG maps myself, that is why I asked you.

Thank you.

Maphobbyist (talk) 18:13, 10 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Maphobbyist: Hi, nice you notice such thing. This will take a lot of time to add these border lines. Additionally, I notice that this mistake is happening on other language versions of these images as well, so it would be nice that somebody to correct all images at once. --Ehrlich91 (talk) 18:17, 10 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. I also put a request to the uploaders of the same SVG maps in the other language versions, in case they might too correct the borders. But I suppose changing or adding the labels in other languages and scripts, are restricted to those users who know the particular language. Kindest regards. Maphobbyist (talk) 18:22, 10 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Maphobbyist: No, this is a problem only in border lines, and you don`t have to know that specific language. Therefore, I propose that this could be done from one man. --Ehrlich91 (talk) 20:51, 10 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:NATO expansion-sr.svg[edit]

Hello.

Can you add Montenegro which became a NATO member in 2017 in File:NATO expansion-sr.svg and File:NATO expansion.png?

Can you also add Sout Sudan in File:Africa Pressure Map July.svg, File:Africa Pressure Map January.svg, File:Africa Ocean Currents Map-sr.svg, File:Africa Temperature Map-sr.svg, File:Africa Precipitation Map-sr.svg?

I am adding South Sudan (as well as Montenegro and other possible missing updates) in the PNG maps in Category:Maps needing South Sudan political boundaries and then remove this category after updating them. There were close to 1100 maps since I started to update these files on 1 March 2018, now it is reduced to less than 570 maps, but there is a long way to go.

Unfortunately I don't know how to edit SVG maps and complicated PNG maps myself, that is why I asked you.

Kindest regards.

Wrong description[edit]

Hi. When you came across some mistaken description (as here), you should not only remove a category and request for a file rename, but at first correct the file description (and add the correct category, naturally). Thank You. --ŠJů (talk) 19:43, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@ŠJů: Yes, you are correct, but I first want somebody (as you) to check my claims, as I did not want to edit something, although I was very sure in that statement. But, thanks for your suggestion, I will use it in the future --Ehrlich91 (talk) 19:50, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank You for your answer. In such case, the description field enables to write your objections, presumption or speculation, summarize your observations or arguments, or simply use a question mark (to the current entries, or to the uncertain proposed entries). Or some other way to mark the original entries as implausible. --ŠJů (talk) 19:59, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation categories[edit]

Hello, Ehrlich91. When you create a disambiguation category, as you did with Category:Klisura Monastery, please be sure to put the disambiguating entries on the page. Not only do they belong there, but disambiguation-fixing tools don't work if the entries aren't there. I have put the entries on Category:Klisura Monastery so you can see what I mean. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:22, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Auntof6: Thank you. Actually, I did not create this page, only removed categories to proper category Category:Klisura Monastery (Macedonia), but yes I forgot to add afterwards all categories to this disambiguation category. --Ehrlich91 (talk) 18:28, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder[edit]

Hi Ehrlich91. I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than using the automatic Nominate for deletion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests), please remember to follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:56, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jeff G. Ok, thanks for your information. I really did not know that this is not right. Sorry for inconvenience. --Ehrlich91 (talk) 17:08, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 01:10, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
