Aberdeen bus station deletions[edit]

Hi, I noticed that a load of files were deleted after I tried to reupload one from Flickr. This is the deletion request: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Aberdeen bus station 13 May 2013 DSCF0356 (9058722989).jpg. The image in question is of low resolution but otherwise is identifiable as the interior of Aberdeen bus station. I don't think we have any images on the bus station now so am confused why this was deleted? Isn't a low resolution image better than none at all? Hi NemesisAT, Unfortunately the majority of those images were all of poor quality however I wouldn't object to maybe 1-3 images being undeleted as other than demolition files you're right we don't have any images of this bus station,

I've commented on it but in short unless I've missed something glaringly obviously I don't see anything that suggests this is a copyright violation - to my knowledge you don't have to be an official person to upload a picture of someone who's well official and the photo doesn't look professionally took either,

The exif data is poor on all of their images which could be a sign of them removing or adding exif data who knows but as I said I'm not seeing any copyvios here sorry :(,

Hi Strakhov, My sincere apologies this should've been declined so I don't know how or why it wasn't, Not that it's an excuse but I had sifted through over 200 files waiting to be renamed (as no one else bothered) so I guess it's easy to make mistakes when you're going through such a large amount but still no excuse for something that easy.

Maybe the requester (is from my country) should have used crit. 3 and not 2, but for me that's no reason to decline files. Hello Richardkiwi, Because I see nothing wrong with the current name and unless I'm missing something it does not disambiguate itself from say Zoetermeer Oost train station, You should have consulted me before moving it but either way I've moved the filename back and unless the user can provide a solid based reason as to why it should be moved it can continue staying where it's at.

Pinterest isn't a CC licenced site

Alchetron.com states "Qin Er Shi Wikipedia (Text) CC BY-SA" and makes no mention of images

Hi Davey2010, I trust this message greets you well. I have been looking up websites such as Pexels, Unsplash and Pixabay to upload, but there is some strange rule stating some changes in regards with some files. The files in question is File:A woman riding a skateboard bikini and denim shorts (Pixabay).jpg, however the author has released it on a free compatible licence, but the upload in question was after the due date. I believe I may have made a mistake, but I do just want to verify whether it can still be used provided the author has released it fully. Hi Nim Bhharathhan, I hope you and yours are safe and well, I don't know about Pexels or Unsplash but with Pixabay images uploaded to Pixabay on or after 9 January 2019 cannot be accepted as that's when they changed licences unfortunately, I'm not sure if you've seen it but inregards to Pixabay it does state it all in the licence (File:A_woman_riding_a_skateboard_bikini_and_denim_shorts_(Pixabay).jpg#Licensing),

I think let's get an admin to deal with it. This is not the only issue that we are facing. A lot of the images that are not reviewed have been uploaded on that date. The only reason why I am uploading them is to do a massive overhaul on articles heavily neglected with images. I think Commons needs to get their act together and make other compatible exceptions. Well, back to the drawing board I guess. You or I could raise the issue to COM:AN and get them to investigate this, I reckon to keep it as is, but if an admin says to delete, they can do it, but this is not the only one. It's not Commons' fault - Pixabay went from a Creative Common licence to one which isn't compatible with Commons or anywhere else for that matter. If you understood Creative Commons you'd understand why they cannot be accepted here.

There's nothing to investigate - Everything you need to know is in the licensing part so there's no point complaining to AN.

Ah well, it would be a time-consuming task anyway. I am doing a heavy load next semester so I will be very busy and not very active after July 19th – but I am glad we are on the same page. I will still come on and do some cleanups, such as fixing typos, overhauling articles, nominating copyright-suspect images for deletion, but otherwise its just me at the books. Hmm considering driving Uber while studying at uni, but I'd probably be crapping myself as I do need to rent a car, might go luxury to give a good feel for my passengers, but i'd have to milk out my parents account to do that, and i'd be grounded/kicked out if I do that, so that will not be an option. What is rideshare like in the UK as in Australia, you'd find a lot of uni students are hooked on the app for nighttime, but I prefer to use it in the morning, to avoid the surge and considering the credit card is shared between me and my sister, we cannot spend a lot. Query regarding Flickr file[edit]

Hello Davey, I got permission from this user to use his photo on Wikimedia Commons. Considering that the image itself is copyrighted, I am not sure whether we can upload it. The comment read "You have my permission for this singular usage" which I have attached it to the article and I would like to do so. May you please help me understand whether I can still upload. I know some users like User:Cement4802 uploaded a Tangara train image from a copyrighted author but he asked for permission to upload. Hi Contributers2020, I don't want to say Yes and be wrong. If I came across the file then admittedly I would believe what's in front of me and leave it there, I don't have a great understanding when it comes to Gov related stuff so I stay well from it so as I said I don't want to give you the wrong information.

You can mark it as no perm, send it to DR or ask Fae first (and if that doesn't get anywhere then DR or no perm) but again entirely up to you what you do.

I wanted to ask that there is a [file], which, to me, was looking a obvious Delete picture, because in the license template they say that "Do not use this template if the date of death is available". The death date, with day, month and year written clearly on the source, but the author of the File, [[1]] say that I am wrong and humiliated me. Hi Contributers2020, Indeed the licence does state " the country of origin copyright lasts 70 years after the death of the author, and the date of the author's death is unknown. However, the date of creation of the work was over 120 years ago," so whilst it's saying after 120 years it's fine to have the file here it's sort of not fine as we know when the authors death date was so I would indeed say the licence is wrong - I don't work with old images so have no idea what it should be replaced with (assuming {{PD-old}} but that's a wild guess), Thanks, –Davey2010^Talk 10:42, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I edit warred 3-4 times no denying that but credit where credit's due I stopped, restored the DR[5], helped the admin by replacing all of my copyvio notices with DRs[6][7], admittedly made an angry personal attackish comment and left ..... so why the need for this block bearing in mind I restored the DR 10 minutes prior to this block .... All seems punitive and nonsensical if you ask me.

You've done another revert after that though. That reduces the gap between last revert and block to 5 minutes, which is not unreasonable IMO. The PA against AFB, not realizing that your speedy deletion tagging of TOO-related files was wrong, and your passive-aggressiveness don't help either. The block was correct and preventative.

Maybe you should reread the discussion before commenting on something you know nothing about. I stopped reverting at the DR a whole 10 minutes before the block was placed (and which was the sole reason for this block anyway). Imagine yourself asking for an admin to help and alls you get is "rvv" with said admin undoing everything you've just done .... would you be pleased with that ? ... No and as evidenced with my "passive-aggressiveness" as you put it I wasn't impressed either. I asked for help and alls I recieved was a block and dramah .... By way of further explanation, I am not one of those excessively busy people that don't want pings or ask questions similar to "why did you ping me?"; rather, I give them frequently to those I mention as a matter of common courtesy, and I expect them in return (I also thank when strictly appropriate, and expect to receive thanks in return). Exactly one person has asked me not to ping them, and another has turned notification of pings of them off wiki-wide, so I try not to bother them.
