Commons:Deletion requests/File:Dr Pankaj Naram.jpg

Greetings Daphne: Please review if the system closed the file at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Dr Pankaj Naram.jpg the way you intended? Also I have talk page correspondence from uploader planning to go to UNDEL, I will of course refer him to you first. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:31, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi,
Thanks to both of you for taking care of this. I already told this user to wait 2 times. The permission is not yet complete. Regards, Yann (talk) 15:49, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
Yes. Yann has already been in communication with me through the OTRS Noticeboards regarding the undeletion request and processing of the permission. Thank you Daphne Lantier, Ellin Beltz, Yann and all for your kind assistance. Although I am only a new user, just witnessing already the extensive amount of collaboration and community involved in Wikimedia is quite impressive. And to know that a majority of it is done by volunteers, with such a high degree of good will, transparency, integrity, and desire for excellence is quite something! Honestly, I truly wish more of the world's institutions could function with models like the one being experimented with and developed here at Wikimedia and Wikipedia. And the funny thing is I may have missed out on seeing it, if I hadn't been in communication with each of you over the last couple days, so thank you. Seriously, Bravo. Thank you for your work and the inspiration. --DrIndia (talk) 22:44, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Nicolás Shea image

Dear Daphne. It appears that you have deleted nicolas-shea.png and that file belonged to me. Would you care to explain why that was? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mauricio Arce (talk • contribs) 18:34, 2017 April 17‎ (UTC)

The issue here is that the image was previously published online at http://www.nicoshea.cl/. We would need permission from the copyright holder of the image to be sent to OTRS. Daphne Lantier 19:50, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Polo Morín photo deletion

I saw that you deleted this photo. I'm wondering how you came to determine that it was a copyvio. (I didn't get a chance to see the tag.) I ask because I had been dealing with this user, and I wasn't sure if this photo was legitimately the user's own work. (I tried the usual Google image search and Tineye, which came back with nothing.) I'm not sure if you saw, but the user did claim to have personally taken the picture. Cheers, -- Irn (talk) 01:34, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

This was deleted as coming from https://twitter.com/polo_morinDF/status/833143921853206528. Daphne Lantier 16:23, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
Hm, while that does look like a selfie, the image didn't have the text on it, did it? And the user did claim to have sent it to that Twitter. Irn (talk) 19:56, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
The Twitter source is a 17 second video clip. This deleted image is a video still. It's been cropped so the watermarking doesn't show. This user would've had to have been the one shooting the video, which he would have to try and prove using the process at OTRS or COM:UDEL. Daphne Lantier 20:04, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello, please undelete this image! You are wrong, there's no CV. In Austria this image is free, cause you're allowed to publish pictures of Interior, when it's a public building (church). See: Braunböck in Kucsko, urheber.recht, 2008, p. 844 and Müller, Das Urheberpersönlichkeitsrecht des Architekten im deutschen und österreichischen Recht, 2004, op. cit., p. 101. (in German). Thank you! --Austriantraveler (talk) 09:58, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

I'm not sure that's quite what Commons:Freedom of panorama#Austria says. In the "other works" column, "interiors of buildings, including churches, museums, and theatres" is marked as prohibited. As for this collage, one of the images used is said to be by a gentleman who died in 2013. I would suggest you make this request at COM:UDEL just so we can be sure one way or the other. Polo Morin Photo YOU DELETED!!

I took the photo when i saw him, why you say it is copyright?

(talk page stalker) @KarinaMartinez1: That photo was deleted because you took it from Twiiter without permission from the Twitter user. All works created nowadays are automatically protected by copyright by the time of their creation. If you are the same Twitter user there, you have two options: one, state there at Twitter using your Twitter account that you are releasing that photo under a free license (like CC BY-SA-4.0), or two, follow the procedure at OTRS. I would personally prefer the first option, since the latter would take a long time to be processed (weeks or months). Furthermore, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comment. Thanks, Poké95 03:05, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Please reconsider given a valid PD-self submission and difficulty with English per ticket:2017042410003191.   — Jeff G. ツ 13:40, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: I just wonder why we're doing OTRS for a low-quality video still. Why don't they use a decent photo of the guy? As for the block, the warning I gave her is available in Spanish translation. She re-uploaded the copyvio several times. Even with a language barrier, the repeated deletions should've signified that something wasn't right. I have to be fair with blocks. Right now I have no assurance she won't re-upload the image again before OTRS is confirmed. Daphne Lantier 18:26, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
I felt sorry for the newbie uploader, no one would believe the explanations and things got heated, so I found the ticket and processed it. It appears the subject of the video and extracted photo has fans and at least one official photographer, but none that have taken quality pictures have been willing to release one with a license free enough for us, so we get stuck with lesser or no photos. Projects with EDPs fare much better in this regard, but surprisingly, none of this guy's five Wikipedia articles have photos. I hereby confirm that I have a PermissionOTRS tag ready for that image if and when you choose to undelete it. If the community decides the quality is too low, that's on them (OTRS permissions is about permissions, not file quality or scope). Perhaps the uploader will license the whole video after the cooldown period.   — Jeff G. ツ 23:36, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: What's the title of the file you have OTRS for? Once that's taken care of, I can unblock her since the block was meant to stop her from re-uploading the image. Daphne Lantier 00:27, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: And thanks for your help. Daphne Lantier 05:47, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
This is really frustrating. The reason it went to OTRS is because you deleted the photo and explicitly stated that that was what needed to happen. And then you argue against it here based on the quality of the image? That's not cool. But what bothers me even more is that I raised this very concern with you before the user had even reacted to the photo being deleted in the first place, and you stated It's been cropped so the watermarking doesn't show. I couldn't verify it at the time because I didn't have access to the deleted photo, but I can see now that that was simply untrue. That bothers me. As does the fact that you made no attempt to actually reach out to this user beyond a warning template despite being well aware that the user had uploaded the image as “own work” and clearly had access to the original of the video you had claimed was copyvio'ed. To be explicit, I don't think you treated this user fairly. I really hope that you consider how your actions could have aggravated the situation instead of working towards a resolution, and I hope that you treat others users more kindly in the future. Cheers, -- Irn (talk) 13:06, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
@Irn: I'm a new administrator, so I certainly do have a lot to learn. I didn't mean to be unkind to her, and she has my humble apology for my clumsy handling of this case. I will do better with future cases. Daphne Lantier 18:53, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

8 images with pending OTRS

Dear Daphne,

I need your help. You deleted 10 images that I uploaded to Wiki Commons a few years ago. I believe that 8 of them were deleted by mistake. Here they are:

 1. File:Serguei Netessine.jpg

These files were initially nominated by Yann, I asked him about a possible solution and he recommended me to ask for a permission via OTRS, which I received within 7 days after the nomination. Here you can read our discussion if needed: User_talk:Yann#Missing_permission_instead_of_copyright_violations.

So all these files were released in the public domain by their copyright owners. Please check OTRS pending letters or advice me how to restore the images in a different way. Kind regards, Alexandra Goncharik (talk) 22:47, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

I'm not an OTRS member, so I can't check on the communication you've had with OTRS. Once the OTRS permission is processed and confirmed, an OTRS member can undelete the above images, or request their undeletion. Daphne Lantier 22:52, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
Now I see how it works. Thanks for the info! Regards, Alexandra Goncharik (talk) 23:07, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

When I have the copyright and a stewards breaking the Law ?

Recently some of my files was deleted , Most of them are my creation and I hold the copyright . I think a Wikimedia stewards from my home country Bangladesh is attacking my every move and using his Admin Power to undermine my effort to be do so. I think This stewards is now Politically Motivated and using Wikipedia resources for Business. If someone using the Wikipedia as their tool of personal gain I think its will hamper the global image of Wikipedia .

Wherever the deleted " File:United Bengal.png " was my creation and I released it under Creative commons License . Its can be found in the files meta data also .The File:Anonymous Respect .png is also my creation as i used in my wikipedia user page as my sign . You will find the file is uniquely designed inspired by guy fawkes mask but my design was unique.

If you need anything to prove me that I hold the copyright I will be happy to disclose . Megamindcorp (talk)

I've put something in the wrong place

Hello. You left me a message, saying that the "Wikicommons already has a topic" or something similar (I apologize for being vague, but now I cannot find the place where this was done; I tried to reply, at the place where you'd posted, and the markup on that "Talk" page didn't include the text which you'd written). I'm sorry, for my mistake, and I want to make sure that I do not repeat it. But it's unclear to me what I did, that was incorrect. It may have something to do with my creation of a "User" page at Wikicommons, because I tried to make one, and now it's been erased. Please pardon my ignorance, but the matter is confusing. Thank you, for your attention to this. Catsmoke (talk) 05:40, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

The basic issue was that you created a long personal webpage that had nothing at all to do with Commons. A few personal details would be fine, but a full bio is very social mediaesque. If you had included details about what areas of Commons you intended to get involved in, or some links to Commons policy, that would be within COM:SCOPE. I might be a bit strict in this area, but we get a large number of people who come to Commons, write up a personal bio or even a CV, and that's it. They never edit again. I try to clean some of this up, and there's lots of it. I would suggest if you create another user page that you focus on what you're here to help with, what areas of Commons you intend to work in, what level of skill you have with photography or image editing, rather than a life story. Daphne Lantier 06:57, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Saasweb / SaaS Web Logo.svg

Hi Daphne, I think there was some kind of misunderstanding regarding your block of User:Saasweb and your deletion of File:SaaS Web Logo.svg. The uploader is in fact a partner organization of the Wikimedia Hackathon (see https://www.wikimedia.at/hackathon/unsere-sponsoren/) and was encouraged by the hackathon organizers to register an account and to participate. Please unblock the user and undelete the file or let me know if you prefer a formal request via COM:BP and COM:UNDEL. Thank you and kind regards --Raimund Liebert (WMAT) (talk) 08:42, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Their user page was blatantly promotional: SaaS Web ist eine innovative und agile Managed Hosting Agentur in Karlsruhe. It included some more promotional text like this, plus weblinks. They would need to know that this partnership you speak of isn't a chance for them to advertise their business before I would agree to unblock/undelete. My deletion and block are in line with COM:ADVERT, so I'm not going to reverse my actions at this time. If Commons can have assurance that they're not going to promote their business, I would then agree to unblocking them and restoring their logo. Daphne Lantier 18:32, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of file

Hello,

I am not sure to understand what happened with regards to Commons:Deletion requests/File:1996 12 12 Professeur Jean-Claude Badoux President EPFL photo Herzog-LD.JPG. The discussion (in French) was: there is a blanket authorization for this account to upload images from EPFL (and which was missed by the contributor who suggested deleting the image); this authorization is linked from my user page. User:Shev123 seemed to agree and just wrote that an OTRS volunteer should add the corresponding authorization on each image (and I added that I was happy to copy the authorization, but needed someone to add the first one). What was missing ? Best wishes, Mediacom EPFL (talk) 07:07, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

The OTRS ticket I see on your user page simply confirms your identity. It doesn't address your uploads. @Thibaut120094: How do we know that all uploads from this account have proper copyright/permission? Daphne Lantier 07:22, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
The content of the ticket should also confirm that this account is allowed to upload medias from EPFL under a suitable license, no ? At least that's what we organized when sending the email. Mediacom EPFL (talk) 10:15, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) In a word: No. Please send a blanket permission grant to permissions-commons in English or permissions-fr in French via OTRS, including specifications of how you want the attribution to read and how you acquire permissions.   — Jeff G. ツ 14:26, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
Ok. Do you have an example somewhere ? As we were convinced that what we did earlier was enough (leaving the account the flexibility to choose the licence, in particular), I'd like to get it right the second time. And just to be sure: what do you mean by "how we acquire permissions" ? The reason why we own the rights to these pictures ? (in this case, something like "the pictures were made by one of our employees, and as such the institutions own the rights and is allowed to license them ?). Thank you in advance, Mediacom EPFL (talk) 16:10, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Mediacom EPFL: Commons:Email templates should get you started, it has further examples linked at the bottom, you could include such declarations for each license you would contemplate using, and you could update the ticket with one or more new declaration(s) as appropriate if and when the need were to arise. Also, "All works we upload were made by employees contractually obligated to assign copyrights to us." would work.   — Jeff G. ツ 19:54, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
For instance:
For works we tag , the following block of text applies:

I hereby affirm that I, Mediacom EPFL, am the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of the media work https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Example.jpg. I agree to publish the above-mentioned work under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International. I acknowledge that by doing so I grant anyone the right to use the work, even in a commercial product or otherwise, and to modify it according to their needs, provided that they abide by the terms of the license and any other applicable laws. I am aware that this agreement is not limited to Wikipedia or related sites. I am aware that the copyright holder always retains ownership of the copyright as well as the right to be attributed in accordance with the license chosen. Modifications others make to the work will not be claimed to have been made by the copyright holder. I acknowledge that I cannot withdraw this agreement, and that the content may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project.

"Batch task"

I know that I've had "batch task" as a choice on the sidebar - but it seems to be gone now. Do you have any suggestions how to make it reappear? Thanks!! Ellin Beltz (talk) 22:04, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

@Ellin Beltz: I have "perform batch task" as an option right now on the sidebar. I'm using the latest version of Chrome. I've also tested it with the newest Firefox and it's working with that browser too. I used VFC to do some mass DRs just an hour or two ago and had no issues. Daphne Lantier 22:13, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
It's even stranger, the "delete" button doesn't show when I am on a speedy delete page, and there is no "administrator's backlog" choice in the watchlist. It's as if my admin tools have disappeared. Ellin Beltz (talk) 22:14, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
I just relogged and no difference. It's going to be hard to stay an active admin with no tools. Any ideas? Ellin Beltz (talk) 22:16, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
Have you purged your browser's cache? Have you tried using a different browser? If none of that works, you may want to post about the problem to COM:AN, or talk to any admins you know who're really tech savvy like Steinsplitter or Krd. Daphne Lantier 22:20, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Ellin Beltz: "Perform batch task", also known as VFC, documented at Help:VisualFileChange.js, and also known as "AjaxMassDelete" and "AjaxQuickDelete", is JavaScript which is enabled by including MediaWiki:VisualFileChange.js as specified in Help:VisualFileChange.js#Step_0:_How_to_Install. I suggest you fully implement that step,
VisualFileChange is a JavaScript tool. You do not have JavaScript enabled.

@Yann: My understanding was that the nominator was referring to PD-Russia #2, which depends on participation in WW2. Maybe PD-old-70 would be OK? I'm not very familiar with Russian copyright, so my closure may have been mistaken. Daphne Lantier 21:53, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
Yes, I understand that was the claim. But why would it expire in 2021, and not in 2019 or in 2022? I will ask on the COM:VPC. Thanks for your message. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:56, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

help me please

Hello, can you help me .. how i have to prove that i have not reached copyright regarding the pictures i take....--Aelita14 (talk) 04:19, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

Why do you upload small files with no metadata? The two images I deleted were small close-up images of beauty pageant winners. It's very difficult to believe that you took these pictures. Usually only professional photographers get close-up images like this, and they work for magazines and important newspapers. You need to either upload full-size original images that you have taken yourself, or you need to have the copyright holders of images you want to upload provide permission through OTRS. So far, all of your uploads have been deleted. You can request undeletion at COM:UDEL, but you will have to convince people who are experienced with copyright violations that the images are yours. I would suggest that you stop uploading images and take the time to either get some of your prior uploads undeleted, or that you upload large original files with EXIF. Any further uploads from you that are deleted as copyright violations will quickly lead to a block of your account. You might want to review COM:CB and COM:L as well. Images Deleted would like them to be undeleted

Hi Daphne,

Three of my images (listed below) have been deleted.

Since I do not check this page on a daily basis I was unaware of this and did not have sufficient time to respond. Would like to state that these are my own images and I would not try to pass off someone else's work as my own. I had deliberately reduced the file size to prevent copyright violations and had also used my own watermark '(c) Shivsharan Trasi' on these files. If required I can reupload larger file sizes but that exposes my images to copyright violations. Request you to undelete this files accordingly. Please email me for further clarifications at shiv.trasi@gmail.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shivtrasi (talk • contribs) 09:17, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of the picture File:GeschwisterSchollWeg04.jpg

Hi Daphne, first thanks for your work with FrenzelAlexander's and my files. Alexander only uploads his files and has no intention for further work here. Last he uploaded the (I think, worse) File:GeschwisterSchollWeg04.jpg , but the good File:GeschwisterSchollWeg03.jpg and File:GeschwisterSchollWeg05.jpg , too. The object ist the same, the first picture is inferior, and not arty. What is to do to delete the worse picture ("speedy", without big discussion, and before I locate, comment and rename them all)? Hi again. You wrote: I have a gadget that closes these requests and readies them for archiving. Daphne Lantier 07:53, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: Yeah, it's called UdelReqHandler. It's available in Tools for authorized users - you know, us special folks. As for you not being an admin, maybe you should think about changing that one of these days... Daphne Lantier 08:22, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. Certainly, changing that has crossed my mind multiple times in the nearly ten years since my first attempt crashed and burned, which I suppose was partially due to it being a self-nom. It would certainly help me to breeze through examinations and restorations for OTRS permissions tickets, alleviating your workload.   — Jeff G. ツ 08:40, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
Jeez, that's ancient history there. We need good admins. I could do a decent RFA for you I think, unless you know somebody who's been an admin longer and would rather they do it. I would basically copy my own RFA nomination. INeverCry told me he made sure all of his RFA nominations were short and to the point. Let me know if you want to go for it. It's bed time for me now, so I'll talk to you later. Daphne Lantier 09:07, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: I hope you're not referring to OTRS. That looks like more of an ordeal than an adventure... Daphne Lantier 05:08, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
I was. At the very least, now you can satisfy your curiosity about permissions tickets. Also you have one new tool in "Tools for authorized users": "PermissionOTRS: Automatically add PermissionOTRS or OTRS received to a media file."   — Jeff G. ツ 10:11, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

Beelden van kunst in een gemeentehuis

Dag Daphne. Met vriendelijke groet, Tulp8 (talk) 08:23, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

Your signature

Hello Daphne. On asking Jeff G., whether he could make his signature smaller and replace a deprecated tag, I noted, that you are affected, too. Hence: In the moment your signature uses the <font> tag, a tag deprecated for almost 18 years now, cf. <font> - HTML (Mozilla Developer Network) and versions timeline in en:HTML. Let me suggest the following:
Instead of your current

 • <font face="Trebuchet MS" size="2.5" style="color:#002E63"><b>Daphne</b></font> <font face="Trebuchet MS" size="2.5" style="color:#002E63"><b>Lantier</b></font>

an almost equivalent solution would be

 • <span style="font:bold 93% 'Trebuchet MS',sans-serif"><span style="color:#002E63">Daphne</span> <span style="color:#002E63">Lantier</span></span>

which is even a bit shorter and looks like Daphne Lantier (the latter is not linked here, because we are on your talk page, if I’m not wrong ;-)). Because “Trebuchet MS” is only available for Windows users I addedsans-serif like you already did here for your talk page. — Speravir – 20:14, 6 May 2017 (UTC)

Deutsches Historisches Museum

Hi Daphne. I just noticed that you've deleted a bunch of photos of the courtyard of the Deutsches Historisches Museum. I meant to follow up on these sooner to prevent this happening - please see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Deutsches Historisches Museum 2014-3.jpg, where I used one of my photos as a test case for cropping the images to avoid including the courtyard roof in them. Now that they have been deleted, I can no longer tell which image could have been cropped, so I don't know how to follow up on this now. :-( Any suggestions? Thanks. PD-1923 would apply, but he died in 1964, so that rules out PD-old-70 since he's from France which uses 70 p.m.a for copyright. I think your nomination was completely correct as far as I can see. Daphne Lantier 18:49, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Abby Weed Grey working on the exhibition "One World Thru Art,” in St. Paul, Minnesota, 1972. New York University Archives.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. PD-Somalia

Howzit,

You recently deleted File:Soml inspection armored 1.jpg as a copyright violation without flagging it first, notifying the original uploader (myself), or opening a deletion request. Reason given was a generic "copyright violation" without any elaboration. This image is a Somali work originally produced by a Somali press agency. Somalia has no existing intellectual property law, meaning no Somali works can be protected by copyright if they were first published in Somalia and/or by a Somali entity.

Of course, if the image was published first by a foreign entity or national, it will be protected by that country's copyright law. That's not the case here; I clearly notarized the image indicating the original source as a Somali-language newspaper, with Somali-registered owners and address. If there was some irregularity with the particular image or dispute over its intellectual property, please don't hesitate to fill me in, because otherwise this looks pretty clear cut.

Thanks, --Katangais (talk) 14:47, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

This was tagged as a copyvio by another editor, and that editor should have notified you. The tag claimed the following:

I do a lot of deletions, so if cadceed.com is a Somali press agency website, then I can restore the image. Your source was "Somaliland press", which is much too vague. You should have given a direct source upon upload. Daphne Lantier 17:47, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Redirects

Hi, when handling a duplicate like this, where the upload is from Unsplash, the original photographer is given in the Unsplash data, but not in the file you are redirecting to; in this case "www.Pixel.la Free Stock Photos" is obviously not the author or original photographer. It is unlikely that anyone will take the time to recover this information now the uploads have been deleted, but it is valuable for our understanding of the original copyright release to be able to refer to it. Could you please fix this example, and keep that in mind for any other duplicates you are handling, as it is not always the file that has been here the longest that has the most accurate copyright information. Thanks -- (talk) 21:29, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

✓ Done Fixed. The duplicate processing gadget allows for switching the files around, so it won't be difficult to keep Unsplash files and delete/redirect the older dupes. Daphne Lantier 21:39, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. Regarding this Mosaic

Hi. I've become pretty inactive here, so haven't kept up with the latest thinking. Trying to decipher what is going on with this page. Saw someone tagged it for speedy with "nonsense", and then you deleted it, then restored it...

The mosaic was a celebration of a pretty important milestone in Commons history, 1M images, and this file was a helper file to keep the mosaic hanging together (if an image was deleted, it would break it unless the deleter or someone else fixed the mosaic's reference to it). I can't quite find out what actually happened... any clues? It's very possible that the mosaic is no longer of interest, or that this file is no longer required to "protect" images it uses... Thanks! ++Lar: t/c 10:40, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

Uploading photos

Hi Daphne, I cannot upload any photos on my article I have written. May I ask why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ptrck.dgzmn (talk • contribs) 02:47, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

In order to upload images, you have to be the photographer/copyright holder or you have to get OTRS permission from the photographer/copyright holder. Daphne Lantier 03:42, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

File:WikiProject Scouting Indonesia.png

Whoever claimed to be the uploader of File:WikiProject Scouting Indonesia.png was not, I was, and it was a modification of a free design already here on Commons.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 02:02, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

Never mind, I now see it was replaced by my request. :) --Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 02:23, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

Dear Daphne

you have deleted the file File:Teilfolgen – Erklärung der mathematischen Schreibweise.webm with the reason of a copyright violation today. I guess you made a mistake here. The video Teilfolgen - Mathematische Schreibweise / Beschreibung erklärt is licensed under CC-BY-SA 4.0 and can thus be uploaded on Commons. One can find the license in the first frames of the video. The introductory slides states "Lizenz: CC-BY-SA 4.0" and therefore the video has the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license ("Lizenz" is German for "license").

Actually the video has two licenses: The standard youtube license and the CC-BY-SA 4.0. Since CC licenses permit multiple other licenses next to it, this is valid and the recommended solution for uploading CC-BY-SA videos unto Youtube (since the CC-BY-SA license cannot be selected for videos). Because the creator uploaded the video by himself and owns the whole copyright of the video, this is allowed.

Therefore the video can be uploaded with the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license to Commons (when a file has multiple licenses one of them can be selected for redistribution). Can you undelete the video, please?

The Background: I am an author of the German Wikibook project Mathe für Nicht-Freaks which is a textbook for mathematics. We collaborate with MJ Maths who creates some of his videos under a free license for our project.

Greetings,

Stephan Kulla (talk) 18:12, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

All I see at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXoI-umyvQk is Standard YouTube License. Daphne Lantier 18:49, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

uploader request

Hi Daphne Lantier,

File: Gavilea araucana-CTJ-IMG 7467.jpg. An image from 2016 -- GSD G7? Greatings --Hystrix (talk) 18:32, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

@Hystrix: This was uploaded on May 20, 2017, only 4 days ago [6]. What's the problem? Daphne Lantier 18:37, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
@Hystrix: I see what happened. You were looking at the date the photo was taken, which was in 2016, rather than the upload date. All of these images he's tagging were uploaded less than a week ago, and so qualify for G7. Daphne Lantier 18:55, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
ok, thx --Hystrix (talk) 18:58, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi,

With the merge of File:Αεροφωτογραφία της ESA ESA375724.jpg could you please add the Greek text from the deleted version to the remaining English version? Thanks -- (talk) 18:45, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

Please stop removing my own work and public domain images

Hi Daphne,

I am the owner of all album covers of Scott Tixier such as Brooklyn Bazaar and Cosmic Adventure . You have removed the latest. However it is Public Domain and I am the owner of this work.

deletion of category

Hi, Why did you delete my category? --SuperJew (talk) 09:09, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

You created an empty category and that is routinely deleted. Regards. Wikicology (talk) 13:13, 24 May 2017 (UTC)
@SuperJew: Yes, this was deleted simply because it was empty. Usually, with categories like this, you would wait until you had an image of yours promoted to FP, and then you would start your category with that image. As a rule, you want to always start categories, and even galleries, that are ready to be and will be populated with images at the time of creation. Daphne Lantier 17:53, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

George Tsutakawa sculpture photo

Hi Daphne, did I make some sort of mistake w/ the fair use form for 'George Tsutakawa, Centennial fountain'? As best I recall I used rationales similar to what I've used without problem many times in the past. I was mindful of licensing use of the image of the fountain, not the photo (which I took myself). For what it's worth, Mr. Tsutakawa's son Gerry wrote to thank me for my contributions to the article, and expressed no concern over use of images of his father's work. I would like to include the photo; should I just re-submit it, or wait for further instruction? Thanks for your time,Tomseattle (talk) 23:29, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Commons doesn't except fair use as per Commons:Fair use. You would have to upload directly to Wikipedia (Wikipedia:Non-free content). Daphne Lantier 23:58, 24 May 2017 (UTC)

Change in rights

Thank you, Daphne, for your trust in me. I actually do not consider me that experienced, but on another view already Sokrates knew, that he did not know anything. :-) — Speravir – 18:49, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

Well, you've only been around for 10 years, so I guess I am taking a chance... Daphne Lantier 18:59, 25 May 2017 (UTC)

Earlier you deleted 4 images by this editor but in reviewing their other uploads, at the time I tagged those one, it appears none were previously reviewed and they all appear to come from a selection of different source websites where there is no evidence of them being freely licensed. Several are from facebook pages but it seemed like too much work to individually tag them or even do a batch task deletion nomination. However maybe that is the only way to go but some advise would be appreciated. I had a quick look at several different dated images back to August 2016 which makes around 50 images that all seem to be copyvios. Before that date they seem ok. Thoughts?
