Hello. You recently deleted several images I uploaded without notifying me on the grounds of CSD#F4. However, as far as I can see, the images do not meet CSD#F4. I am asking you to please undelete the images. If you believe that the images should be deleted, please follow the proper procedure. The images are below. It would also be helpful if you could join the discussion at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard so that we can resolve this mess. J Milburn (talk) 10:23, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Replied there. Thanks! -- CptViraj (talk) 11:28, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Can you explain to me the deletion of Category:Members of the Church of the SubGenius? I agree that it appears to have been created by someone whose conduct was bad enough to merit banning, but shouldn't this become a redirect to Category:SubGenii rather than deleted outright? It was not an unreasonable category name. - Jmabel ! talk 17:36, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

@Jmabel: Hi. I had run mass delete on the vandal. If you believe category can be useful then feel free to undelete or recreate. Thanks! -- CptViraj (talk) 17:51, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Even stopped clock is right twice a day. - Jmabel ! talk 18:22, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi admin. This user recently uploaded copyright images with fake license. Moreover, he/she faked YouTube review code. Check here and here. I noticed this user had been blocked by you due to copyright violation so I decide to let you look into this case. Thanks! Nguyenhai314 (talk) 05:15, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

@Nguyenhai314: Blocked them for 3 months, Thanks for reporting. -- CptViraj (talk) 06:55, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Please participate in the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons!

Dear CptViraj

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.

As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.

Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 10:18, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Please take a short survey regarding UCoC

Hello CptViraj,

I would like to inform you that we now have a survey in place to take part in the UCoC consultation. It is not a long one and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey even if you have already participated in the on-wiki consultation. It has a different set of questions and allows you to participate anonymously and privately.

As a member of the Commons functionaries, your opinion is especially essential. Please click here to participate in the survey.

You are still welcome to participate in the on-wiki discussions. If you prefer you can have your say by sending me an email. You can also drop me an email if you want to have a one-to-one chat.

Thank you for your participation! Wikitanvir (WMF) 13:53, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Category restore

Hello @CptViraj: , I hope you're doing well. Could you please restore Category:Abhishek Nigam, it's not empty anymore. Thanks --C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 01:35, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Please transfer to my member Picture from New Name

@CptViraj: Hi , CptViraj , I request you to transfer my member picture to the new name which I have placed on my file and if possible, remove all the previous memoirs leaving only the current ones. Best Regards.Karam06 (talk) 13:13, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

@Karam06: Your last upload, a selfie, seems to be taken by the other person, not you, but you have uploaded the picture as own work. Can you please explain? Also read COM:OVERWRITE, which doesn't allow overwriting a file where the file is completely different. -- CptViraj (talk) 14:35, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
@CptViraj: Hi, CptViraj Your Right I Capture Selfie Image With Our Friend 's Mobile and Image Upload on your Mobile. I 'm in this Selfie Image I have also Read COM:OVERWRITE I uploaded our Image Not Other Users. Best Regardes. Karam06 (talk) 14:53, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
@Karam06: By different, It means not the same file as previous one, even if the subject is same, it shouldn't be overwrited. Your friend took the picture therefore he is the photographer and holds copyright, not you, so if you want to keep the file, then your friend will have to send permission at permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Another option would be to delete the last upload (the one with your friend) or if you also want to have the previous versions deleted then we can simply delete the whole file page. -- CptViraj (talk) 15:40, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
@CptViraj: Ok Delete whole File.Best Regards. Karam06 (talk) 16:21, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

@CptViraj: Hi, Thanks for Deleted Whole File. Best Regards. Karam06 (talk) 16:38, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Wikiversity-logo.png

Hello, just to share with you the interesting tidbit that your deletion of file:Wikiversity-logo.png caused great havoc across all the wikimedia projects and actually it was one of the reasons behind the death of the CommonsDelinker bot. You possibly forgot to check file usage, and have not requested a replacement (through the bot) and the file was used approximately everywhere. I partially fixed the bot today and tomorrow I try to remove all the unlinking requests for the file and replace them with a replacement command. Please, always check file usage before deletion. Thanks. --grin 19:45, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

@Grin: Arr... I always check file usage, I don't know how this happened! Anyways, I'm really sorry for the inconveniences. I'll be more careful from now. Thanks for fixing the bot. -- CptViraj (talk) 01:12, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
No bad feelings. :-) I have created a replacement for the file (to replace it to the original redirected image) but due to the amount of use it will be a bumpy ride. In the next few days. I hope after that things will be right as they were and we can go back to the usual everyday work. ;-) --grin 09:51, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
Awesome :) -- CptViraj (talk) 09:59, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

FYI

Hey there, I thought I should bring this to your attention: At the English Wikipedia, in Empire AS's unblock requests the editor admitted to two things that are relevant to Commons. They uploaded non-free images and claimed them to be their own work, and they also edited as Zindaaab to do the same thing. There was a third account they admitted to having, ALM Aadeez, but I haven't looked into if any copyvios were added at Commons. Taken from my review notes:

  • Here at 06:01, 20 January 2021, Zindaaab uploads an image of Atif Aslam.
  • Here at 11:54, 20 January 2021 Empire AS uploads File:Atif Aslam while smiling.jpg.

I don't have any agenda to have this user blocked at Commons, but I thought I should mention the various accounts and squirrely copyvios. If you have any questions, please feel free to ping me. I can probably spare you having to read the wall of drama. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:58, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb: Hi. First of all thankyou for bringing this to attention. I just read the whole story. Our blocking policy says "Abusing multiple accounts to mislead, deceive, disrupt, distort consensus or to evade blocks or other sanctions. Secondary accounts are typically blocked indefinitely. The primary account may or may not be subject to new or extended blocks depending on the circumstances.", After understanding the whole story, I see there is not much disruption done by them here on Commons and they now seem to be in good faith so I believe both socks should be indeffed and they should be given a final warning. But I'm little bit hesitant to directly take actions as I have never handled this type of situation, so I'll post this story at COM:ANB tomorrow to get others' input :) -- CptViraj (talk) 18:03, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for looking into it. I don't have much familiarity with Commons stuff, so I'll leave it in your hands. Thank you! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:40, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: FYI. -- CptViraj (talk) 09:20, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Will you block me indefinitely here. Thanks! Empire AS Talk! 11:18, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello

Can I ask you something? SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 23:27, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

@SpinnerLaserzthe2nd: Sure. -- CptViraj (talk) 02:38, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
Someone had uploaded copyvio pictures (which is a huge no-no when it comes to uploading). SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 02:40, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
@SpinnerLaserzthe2nd: You have already reported them at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Vandalism#Kj1595, so someone will take a look and make needed actions. -- CptViraj (talk) 02:47, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
Unfortunately, the user in question thinks I reported him in "revenge" that the files he nominated for deletion. Despite the fact that they had a credible source (from TV footages and photo archives and manuals). He not only uploaded copyvio pictures but also he also redirect the Category:SVG flags of Albania to Category:Flags of Albania. We supposed to categorize the files by file type. He even removed the Category:SVG national flags of Albania from File:Flag of Albania (Vertical).svg and File:Nuvola Albanian flag.svg. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 02:53, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi Captain; do you see anything strange at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Zulfikar.jpg? --E4024 (talk) 14:49, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

@E4024: Looks like Hulged hasn't updated their signature yet and is still using the old username signature, so the bot thought the comment is unsigned. @Hulged: Please update your signature. -- CptViraj (talk) 03:49, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
I see something strange also here... --E4024 (talk) 03:55, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
@E4024: The bot's edit is of 20 February, Zorodelito's username was Carlhatem until 22 February. -- CptViraj (talk) 04:02, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
CptViraj, I have updated my signature. Sorry if I have done anything wrong. –Hulgedtalk04:29, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Help for Sarangbot

See also Commons:RfR/Filemover/2021#Sarangbot

Hello CptViraj, could you help on Commons:Bots/Requests/Sarangbot ? Sarang is doing circles, current discussion are making Sarang into a ping-pong ball, which is not good for motivation. Commons:RfR/Filemover/2021#Sarangbot's concensus encouraged him/her to regularize's its bot.

Note: I cannot jump in since I'm already complaining wildly to Krd and Eugene about Bot Request's lack of defined requirements and therefore absurd pingpong-feeling for applicants. as of now, me jumping again into Sarangbot's bot request would be negative for Sarang and the request. You may, on the other side, push for a satisfying solution. Also note that Krd and Eugene seams overloaded by other actions and repeatedly seems to not adequately read these Bot requests. Yug (talk) 12:42, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

@Yug: I'm currently busy in RL, so I don't have enough time to look into this, therefore I don't know who is right. I also don't think I can do much here as a non-bureaucrat. Maybe put this on AN if you want other admin's attention. Sorry! -- CptViraj (talk) 05:21, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the info 👍🏻, i will look for alternatives. Volunteer = no timeline 🎉 Yug (talk) 07:54, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Category:One-man operation in Japan

Can Category:One-man operation in Japan be renamed Category:One-person operation in Japan to match the parent category following Commons:Categories for discussion/2021/04/Category:One-man operation or does it need separate discussion? Thryduulf (talk) 16:06, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

TAMIL NADU

Good evening Cpt Viraj I would like to inform you that TN comes under a coalition with INC. DMK and INC both are in an alliance so that TN has to come under the coalition with INC. If you say that DMK has enough majority that it dows not require INC, you are wrong. In that case, states like Sikkim and so many others will not come under the coalition with BJP. So I request you to revert back to the file that I was reverting to. And to not spread misinformation by positing wrong files. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Naren aviation (talk • contribs) 10:37, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

@Naren aviation: I don't know whether your change was right or not, I never said that. You and another user were edit warring over the change, they asked you discuss the change but you didn't reply and reverted again, that's why I had to protect the file temporary, now as per our edit warring policy and practices please discuss the changes on the file's talkpage. -- CptViraj (talk) 14:56, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

It is understandable and sorry for blaming you. I have written a message to him in his talk page which you can check. Anyway, can you revert it back to the one where TN is in blue and lock it up will the next election in March 2022. Thank You. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Naren aviation (talk • contribs) 07:28, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

LRR

Hi CptViraj, I noticed you undid RZuos edits at LRR - Usually I would agree with archiving however in this specific case A1A1Cafel had nominated 2 editors without even bothering to ask them first .... so I don't really see a point in archiving those 2 requests, and unfortunately it could mean that those LRR requests may be sort of held against those 2 editors if they ever come to LRR themselves.
If it was a case that either had agreed to LRR and then changed their minds after feedback then sure I'd disagree with RZ's edits but as I said in this case I personally think they're correct in removing them. Thanks, Kind Regards, –Davey2010Talk 17:42, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

@Davey2010: Hi. With all respect, I still don't agree. This is like cutting pages from a perfect archive. I agree the nominations weren't appropriate but they weren't vandalism/spam/etc.. which doesn't require archiving. I also don't think they can be against those 2 editors if they ever come to LRR by themselves, the people will obviously be able to see that the nomination was by someone else and the user withdrew it. But nevermind, not gonna fuss. Thanks! -- CptViraj (talk) 03:33, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

Hello CptViraj. Did you forget to add footer template {{Delf}} at the end of the request when you closed it? This is how the deletion request list looks like when you miss this required template. As you are the closing administrator, can fix it? --Stylez995 (talk) 16:04, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

@Stylez995: Apologize. Already fixed by Ixfd64. Thanks! -- CptViraj (talk) 01:01, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

C4ca4238a0b923820dcc509a6f75849b

It would take an unreasonable amount of time to respond to every single of the user's deletion requests. Is there any possibility that we can merge some of them? --Trade (talk) 16:00, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

@Trade: They will have to be merged manually, it would be time consuming, too. -- CptViraj (talk) 16:03, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Surely there must be a rule against making numerous seperate DR's if done for the purpose of inconveniencing the other user?
Could i get you to close deletion request 63 to 71 (at my talk page)? Having a water mark is not a valid reason for deletion. @CptViraj: --Trade (talk) 16:12, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
@Trade: Yeah, the user's intention does seem disruptive. That's why I blocked them for their username without giving a warning as mentioned in the policy. Their DRs aren't completely meaningless otherwise I would have blocked them with the reason as Vandalism, Disruptive editing, etc... For those DRs, I'm sorry but I'm not sure, I would let them open for general 7 days period. -- CptViraj (talk) 16:34, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

'For those DRs, I'm sorry but I'm not sure, I would let them open for general 7 days period. ' What do you mean? Could you ask the admins EugeneZelenko and Yann to undelete the images so i have time to respond? I do not know why they were deleted as i cannot see them. @CptViraj: --Trade (talk) 16:46, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

@Trade: Generally DRs are open for minimum of 7 days for community discussion, they can be speedily closed in obvious cases such as the page meets criteria for speedy deletion, the request is completely nonsense, multiple comments asking for speedy close, nominater withdraws the request, etc... As I'm not familiar with those 2 files, please ask them by yourself or you can make undeletion requests at COM:UDEL. -- CptViraj (talk) 17:25, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

I've made Commons:Undeletion_requests/Current requests#Undeletion request by Trade. You probably wanna give your opinion since you were involved with the nominator in question. --Trade (talk) 22:03, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

He's back again under the user name @CptViraj: , now under the user name Qwerty Azerty Piano making constant identical DR's --Trade (talk) 06:22, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
@Trade: Indeed. But they aren't subject for block because C4ca4238a0b923820dcc509a6f75849b was username blocked and in this users are allowed to create another account with an appreciate username. They are surely socks of someone experienced, but we don't know whose. Nor their DRs are meaningless which would require a block for disruptive editing, vandalism. I'm not sure what should be done here. I see you have posted about this on AN, let's see what others say. -- CptViraj (talk) 08:21, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
Qwerty Azerty Piano have been blocked as a sock of Unknown Wiki Robot (who also have been blocked as a sock of Salim McDoom) by Elcobbola. It would seem your suspicion was correct @CptViraj: --Trade (talk) 17:51, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
@Trade: Nice. -- CptViraj (talk) 09:15, 5 October 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, but now he's sned me an inappropriate mail from his Tagalog Wikipedia account. Now i have to deal with this as well. --Trade (talk) 20:41, 5 October 2021 (UTC)
@Trade: From 'Qwerty Azerty Piano' account? -- CptViraj (talk) 12:26, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
