First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.

Bonjour.
Votre proposition de changer le nom désemparé était, en principe, correcte. Mais l'image a un problème plus sérieux: son lien source est invalide et le champ auteur contient des erreurs, la paternité est donc inconnue. J'ai cherché des mots-clés en espagnol et examiné de nombreuses pages Web et PDF essayant de trouver la vraie source, en vain. En outre, certains sites Web s'appuient sur ce fichier sous Commons, à savoir: «areas.jpg», alors, à mon avis, il est préférable de ne rien faire à ce stade.

Rename[edit]

Hi CoffeeEngineer, As per Commons:File_renaming#Which_files_should_not_be_renamed? #2 I can only move files from and to the same language, I cannot rename from Danish to English or Danish to French, It has to be Danish to Danish if that makes sense,
Unless you speak Danish then I would advise you stop adding rename requests for that image,

Tes imports sur Commons[edit]

J'ai l'impression que tes imports sur Commons (qui sont des couvertures ou des articles de magazines qui sont ensuite découpés) sont litigieux et tendent vers le copyvio. Je vais demander à des administrateurs de se pencher dessus et de décider si on a le droit de faire cela ou non. Transfering files to Commons[edit]

Hello!

Please tag the files on Wikipedia with {{subst:Now Commons}} when you transfer them to Commons, for example you transfered File:Mr. 450 with the Westside Mafia.jpg but en:File:Mr. 450 with the Westside Mafia.jpg isn't tagged with {{Now Commons}}.Jonteemil (talk) 19:25, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  1. [6] : Pot d'échappement, il manque l'accent,
  2. [7] : il manque l'accent circonflexe sur maître,
  3. [8] : accents manquant sur nécessaire, à et compréhension,

  5. [10] : Il manque des accents à république, bâtards et née.

Ce sont des inscriptions totalement en majuscule, non ? J'ai moi-même une préférence pour l'usage des accents sur les majuscules, mais je ne pense pas qu'on puisse qualifier leur courante omission comme une faute d'ortographe (ou spelling mistake, selon le nom anglais de cette catégorie). @Place Clichy: Je crois que j'ai commencé à les catégoriser de la sorte parce que j'ai vu des exemples similaires dans cette catégorie. Cependant, je comprends ton point de vue pour les majuscules, mais c'est une faute pour moi, surtout avec cet exemple où les accents sont utilisés de façon aléatoire [11]. Est-ce que tu sais si le cas a déjà été discuté ?

Deletion nominations for 'no proven notability'[edit]

Please stop nominating files for deletion in the basis of 'no proven notability'. Unlike on Wikipedia, notability is required on Commons. The closet equivalent is 'must be realistically useful for an educational purpose', see COM:EDUSE, which is less rigorous. Pictures of unidentified people in mundane locations do not normally pass this test, unless they are in use in any Wikimedia project, see COM:INUSE. In my view, pictures of established bands will almost always pass COM:EDUSE. However such pictures are often copyright violations, having been uploaded from the Internet by the band's fans. Hello, I do not aggree with you on several points. First of all, picture that are copyright violations must not be mixed, as reason for the upload of a picture can be multiple. Then, I do not aggree that all the bands have the same right to upload their picture on Commons. It makes finding useful pictures difficult and can easily be used for advertising. Also, I do that for months and i did not get any message from an administrator. Finally, I do not get how a random picture of a musicians without notability can be COM:EDUSE. Hi, I apologise for my delay in replying. I am not asserting that we should keep all content from all bands, but that the COM:EDUSE threshold for bands should be low. The precautionary principle does not apply. If a band or a musician is well-established then a photo of them may be useful for an article on the music scene where they are active, or on the venue where they have performed. High quality photos of performers are potentially useful even if the performers are unknowns. EDUSE is not restricted to potential use in Wikipedia, any file which might be used in a student's coursework qualifies.
There is no problem with files that have been uploaded for the purpose of advertising, providing that they are realistically useful for an educational purpose, see COM:SPEEDY#G10. Commons should encourage such files. For example, the Welsh record label Sain uploaded a large number of music clips and album covers which are in Category:Sain (Records) Ltd.
