First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Lo siento, pero te equivocas de parte a parte. La licencia es CC BY-NC-ND. Es decir, no se permite el uso comercial ni realizar obras derivadas, lo cual no es una licencia compatible con Commons. Puedes leer más sobre el tema aquí. Saludos, LMLM (talk) 14:55, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Con respecto a la licencia CC, no hay duda:
"Usted es libre de:
Copiar, distribuir y comunicar públicamente la obra.
Bajo las condiciones siguientes:
...
No comercial. No puede utilizar esta obra para fines comerciales."
Puedes leer más aquí: Condiciones de uso de las imágenes de la Fototeca del Patrimonio Histórico: "No se permite el uso comercial de las mismas ni la generación de obras derivadas." Como ya te dije antes.
Con respecto a que sea libre, el autor, António Passaporte, falleció en el año 1983, según indica la propia fuente. Y sus derechos morales como autor no han expirado. Y los patrimoniales, los tenga, quien los tenga, tampoco.

Foto de La Quinta del Sordo[edit]

¡Hola! Carlos. He visto la interesante foto que has puesto sobre La Quinta de Goya. Comentas que se trata de una postal "tríptica" y que hay otras dos. Me prguntaba si conoces alguna fuente donde poder poder ver las dos postales que faltan --Fsiles (talk) 22:33, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

La postal es una panorámica en tres partes. La parte donde se ve la antigua Quinta de Goya es la postal de enmmedio. En Wikimedia puse esa parte central y un poco de la imagen de su derecha. El lado izquierdo comienza con el cuartel de la Montaña (Príncipe Pío). Y en el lado derecho se ve la iglesia de San Francisco el Grande. Es una gran panorámica de Madrid, como muchas otras postales (hay muchas panorámicas de las riberas del río Manzanares). Pero lo verdaderamente singular es que se ve el palacete que construyeron los sucesores de Goya, desde atrás. Y ese encuadre es el que puse en Wikimedia. Solamente en esa parte se ve la casa y finca de los sucesores de Goya. No conozco otra postal, de otro editor, en que se vea claramente la Quinta de Goya. Pero muchas postales con vistas de la zona puedes encontrarlas en Delcampe (un portal de coleccionismo, en Internet).--Carlos Teixidor Cadenas (talk) 23:52, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Carlos, a raíz de que alguien comentara sobre la foto de tu colección en un foro, resulta que llevábamos varios días hablando sobre la Quinta y de ahí mi pregunta inicial. Yo venía a agradecerte tu respuesta tanto por lo rápida como por lo instructiva cuando justamente esta noche en el foro alguien ha publicado una foto, que sin tener nada que ver con la tuya, igual te puede interesar echarle un vistazo. Aunque hace días que hablamos del tema, el punto exacto que te comento ahora es este ¿Foto de la Quinta a lo lejos? . En esa foto se ve a lo lejos la Quinta de Goya. Conozco el negativo original de vidrio, y su digitalización en muy alta calidad. Y, efectivamente, sin duda se ve la finca de la Quinta de Goya, detrás de una gran arboleda (que no existía en tiempos de Goya). La fotografía es de la empresa "J. Laurent y Cía", y se titula: "MADRID.- 2412.- Viaducto de la calle de Segovia". La foto debe ser hacia el año 1886. Tren de Arganda/La Poveda[edit]

Hola Carlos. He visto que has subido varias fotos referentes al «tren de Arganda» y la antigua estación de La Poveda, como esta o esta. Como estoy reorganizando las fotos de esta temaática, de cara a crear diversos artículos en es:Wiki, quería preguntarte si por casualidad tienes más fotos (por ejemplo: de la estación de La Poveda o del Depósito de locmotoras-Museo del ferrocarril). Entiendo. Si en las fotos se ven otros elementos no presentes ahora en Commons, como el puente de señales de la estación de La Poveda, el edificio de la estación o el depósito-museo de locomotoras de Araganda (por poner ejemplos), creo que tendría sentido.
