Archiving withdrawn FPCs

• Hallo Basotxerri, thanks for your question. Yes I left the same message to all the withdrawn nominations that were still active on the main page, with a link to this discussion Commons_talk:Featured_picture_candidates#You_withdraw_your_nomination,_then_could_you_archive_it_too_? The fact is there are about 20 different people withdrawing their nominations for only 4 people closing and archiving them. Cart is doing most of the job, and I help also when I can. Closing a nomination for a regular stop after the voting period is not really long, just one template to add, two simple copy-paste (one from the bot + one from the nominator for the category), and that's done. But closing + archiving is a bit longer. It's not only one but three edits, on 3 different pages + copy-paste of texts. Then, when you have to do that for 4 or 5 FPCs, as it happened recently, it means 12 or 15 edits together, and that's a lot (maybe 15 minutes spent only coding) ! Some users say we should program the bot differently, but that's the theory & the practice :-) As long as we don't have a new bot, we'll have to do the task. Personally, I don't mind closing a regular nomination (failed or successful), because I feel other people (usually Cart) do that for mine too. But I don't love closing a withdrawn nomination, because, as Cart says too, it's like the job of someone else was not finished, so that I have to finish it for them (or to clean the place). It seems that you're not the only person to ignore how it works (Granada too), so it's good you ask. And you should try next time when you withdraw a nomination (of course I wish you more success than withdrawals but we never know :-)), just follow these 4 steps : Commons:Featured_picture_candidates#Archiving_a_withdrawn_nomination. First time is boring, second time easy. And you don't need to do the procedure for everyone, just for yourself at least will already be an improvement. Otherwise, for your promoted nominations, those which will become featured, it is recommended to let someone else closing it. So, what I'm saying here is more valid only for a withdrawal. Personal attacks

Look, I get it you don't like me. That much is obvious to everyone. But your continued nastiness towards me on FPC is unacceptable. Two adults can discuss how and whether an image is tilted without throwing insults. Stop this or I will go at AN/U.

Btw, my block log is fine. One admin lost his badge for blocking me, because I was removing blackmail content by a banned user he supported. The crat who blocked me had to apologize to everyone for blocking me, wrt a dispute where I eventually got satisfaction. And the other admin was heavily rebuked and made an embarrassment of himself over the block, where he seemed to think he could demand that I converse with him, and blocked me when he had a tantrum that I didn't. You however, will get blocked in increasing lengths until it is indef, just like Livio, unless you learn to be civil.

Wrt posting my block log on FPC, none of my blocks are for civility, none regard the process or anyone at FPC. So you doing so is simply a personal attack. I hope you can appreciate that that is just another diff that will be presented at AN/U if you continue. @Colin and Basile Morin: My opinion as an admin is that you've both been unnecessarily hostile, and I don't care to dig up where exactly this all started. It should stop now. Colin, if there's a personal attack against you, it may be good to remind them that personal attacks are unhelpful. But when you talk about blocking, it only escalates the situation to no end. Basile knows that personal attacks can lead to indefinite blocks. If someone needs to be blocked or formally warned, take it to COM:AN/U or an admin's email. Basile, it's not helpful at all to link Colin's block log. At a FPC discussion it's off-topic, ad hominem, and it could be seen as threatening in the same way as Colin's warning to you. Please, both of you, stay on topic, and don't escalate things. It may at times be necessary to block a prolific contributor, but such is always a great loss to the project. In my experience as a human (rather than a Commons admin or user), there's no such thing as "equally to blame". To every story there are two sides which are never the same. As of right now, I see that you've both handled this imperfectly, and blocking either of you would be counterproductive. The comments you've linked aren't exactly nice. They could be taken in jest, but you're obviously not having it. Basile, Colin isn't your friend, so you shouldn't joke with him like he is; keep it professional and tread carefully. If you think it might provoke him, use your backspace key. Colin, I think your point about admins is exactly right. Here is how I see it. We're all equals on this project, but I have a weapon, and I regularly use it to defend against hostile outsiders. If I turn it on one of our own, it should be a last resort. Such a thing is uncomfortable by nature, with the potential to deeply divide the community. That's certainly a [OK] fair question, and a better approach with my talk page. "Can we put past disputes behind us and start afresh ?" Definitely smarter than "While I will agree this talk page is hostile, I totally reject your suggestion that we are both equally to blame here. Or in fact that I'm to blame at all". Guanaco said we've both been unnecessarily hostile. Still  agree with that, personally. I've removed the critical part of my response from the nomination. This link simply neutralized the threat of a block occurring in the previous comment, out of topic too, btw, could be also reverted. To be clear, a "personal attack" that warrants a block is a very specific thing : attacking someone for who they are -- their race, gender, profession, affiliation, home-wiki, religion, sexuality, etc. It is always unacceptable, and either forms part of an ad hominem argument (which is a worthless argument not justifiable) or simply being mean for the sake of it. Criticising actions and behaviours, and sometimes motivations, just falls into the general mix of how we interact. It happens all the time on this page, and forms some of the reasons given by admins for blocking users. Some of us do it better than others, that's for sure, but making threats of blocks is frankly no way to engage with others to encourage better approaches, manners, wording, etc, etc. That's simply a misuse of adminship. I note in the contribs of several admins, a tendency to block and threaten to block, for minor behavioural issues that are best dealt, imo, in more constructive ways.  Agree. Thus, intelligent collaboration in FP is an idea that I  support. Let's be adult, yes, and this attitude is also the fair way to use my talk page. After the discussion is finished, I may serenely archive this negative thread with the others. I don't want to make as if everything is shining in my garden. But those who interact with me should keep in mind that English is not my primary language. Reading and writing.
