There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hello, BaldBoris!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Cobi_the_dog.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

category deletion

Hello Baldboris99, instead of only blanking a page, please use Template:badname for speedy deletion request of bad named categories. Example:21st century architecture in England by county or Template:speedy for your categories you do not need. Example:it was my error to create this category--Diwas (talk) 18:07, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons does not accept derivative works of non-free works such as File:Mukmuk.jpg. It only accepts free content, which is images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Reproductions of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this file must unfortunately be considered non-free. For more information, please read Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Freedom of panorama. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk. The file you added has been deleted. If you believe that this file was not a derivative work of a non-free work, you may request undeletion.

I noticed that you uploaded a file using the name File:Memorial oval bankstown.jpg. A file by this name already existed on Commons. Overwriting an existing file should not be done except when making minor, uncontroversial corrections, so the file has been restored to its previous version. If the file that you attempted to upload is within our project scope and is in the public domain or published under a free license, please upload it again under a different name. Thank you. For more information, please see Commons:Overwriting files.

Category discussion warning

Motorpoint Arena Sheffield has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Hi BaldBoris, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

 • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the Rename template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
 • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
 • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Thanks for uploading File:Marianne Vos - santuario (20837395762).jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Stage 12 was missing the number on the map. As I don't have the vectorial version of this image I had to copy paste the '1' and the '2' from other parts of the image. If you still have the vectorial version maybe you can correct it. --Bekuletz (talk) 21:57, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

 • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
 • To perform file name swaps.
 • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

A heads-up

Even though you merely uploaded this image a good faith uploader credited you, not
Neon Tommy    wikidata:Q6993448

Authority file
creator QS:P170,Q6993448
.

I noticed an advisory on File:Tom_Simpson_memorial,_Bedoin,_France.jpg telling readers you uploaded it.

Periodically I do a google image search on my name - to see where images I took personally were being re-used.

While these searches do find my images, the results it shows me contain more instances of images taken by other people where my involvement had been merely to upload them to the commons.

I think the fault does not lie with the good faith people who tried to credit the photographer and credited me, instead. I think it is a side effect of how we render our basic information page for images. I think the role of the uploader should get less emphasis.

Consider File:Rita_Ora_at_Perez_Hilton_One_Night_In_LA.jpg - a good faith reader re-used this image, mistakenly crediting it to you.

I am concerned that your decision to emphasize your role will have the unfortunate side effect of stripping credit from the actual photographers or rights holders, when good faith readers who re-use those image mistakenly credit you, instead. Geo Swan (talk) 16:31, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

@Geo Swan: I've never added Uploaded by BaldBoris myself, so lets clear that up first. I don't want any credit whatsoever! I've done everything I've done on here out of the kindness of my heart yet here you are flying accusations around. You need to take this higher up and get this wider issue resolved, because I can assure I'm not unique. BaldBoris 00:09, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
You didn't want to add emphasis to your role as uploader? That's great. But there is still a problem.
Looking at the history, the extra emphasis was present from the very first revision. I think you used a different set of semi-automated tools to upload this image than I do, as I never get this extra credit.
IMO, if you clicked on the save button, that made you at least partly responsible for any errors that crept in. So, who do you think is responsible?
The confusing emphasis is present on 804 images. So, who do you think should take the primary responsibility for making sure they are removed? Geo Swan (talk) 00:34, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
@Geo Swan: Commons:Flickr2Commons added it for me without option, is that not clear? So it's better I hadn't uploaded any of them to aviod confusion? Anyone who has used Flickr2Commons also has this misleading credit. Have you not asked others in same boat and see what they think? I'm sorry but I don't have to time to go through and remove each. A bot seems obvious. Open a friendly non-accusational discussion and I'm sure it will get resolved. Be nice. BaldBoris 14:15, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
 • I've used flickr2commons to upload over ten thousand images, and it never added this extra emphasis to any of them. So, your assertion that everyone who used flickr2commons is in the same boat is just not true.
There is a box on User:BaldBoris that says you uploaded 8328 images. 804 of them have the extra emphasis problem.
I am disappointed you claim flickr2commons was at fault, and wash your hands of your role.
It would be helpful for you to think back and figure out whether you only used flickr2commons on 804 images, meaning 7524 images came from other sources. If that is not true then that suggests you changed HOW you used flickr2commons.
Let's be clear. Someone else, me perhaps, could try to go through all your images, and try to figure out why those 804 images had this problem, while the others didn't. This would be way more time consuming than if you made this effort, yourself. And they might not be able to figure this out, at all, because the needed information was not recorded in the revision history.
I urge you to make a further effort here. Will you really decline to spend even ten minutes trying to figure out if you used flickr2commons just 804 times? And if you used it more than 804 times, will you really decline to spend time to figure out what was different about those 804 problematic uses? Geo Swan (talk) 15:52, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
Your tone with me NEEDS to change or else I will not continue with this conversation. Do you honestly think I've taken a point of saying I've uploaded those files?? Why would anyone want that? I've spent hours, like you also, of my time doing good and I will not let you take that away!
"If that is not true then that suggests you changed HOW you used flickr2commons." A futher acussation that's not appreciated. I changed what to gain what? I have no memory in my brain as to why 804 images uploaded using Flickr2Commons say I've uploaded it? Nothing can be figured out. Sadly, I don't have a time machine to go back seven years and see what I did.File Upload Bot (Magnus Manske) may have the awnser you crave. BaldBoris 16:49, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
 • We are all volunteers here. No one can tell us to take on a new task. However, in my opinion, we are entitled to ask other volunteers to (1) be competent when they undertake tasks; (2) not leave tasks unfinished.
 • I think my requests to you fall under the second kind - you seem to have authorized a rogue tool to make uploads that gave undue emphasis to your role, obfuscating the more important role of the true copyright holder. IMO by not helping figure out the problems with these images you are leaving your tasks unfinished. Please stop saying or implying that I am attacking you. I have no problem accepting that you didn't realize you may have been authorizing a rogue tool.
 • In my opinion, as the actual uploader, you are in a far better position to help trace how this took place than anyone else. I spent time looking at your upload record. But getting to the bottom of this problem was more difficult for me than it would be for you, because I lack context.
 • No one can stop you from misinterpreting my requests for you to help get to the bottom of a problem where you played a role as a personal attack. But I think doing so is a bad idea, and I encourage you to give this more thought.
 • You wrote "Nothing can be figured out." Yeah, sorry, I don't think that is true.
 1. When was the first image you used flickr2commons to upload that overemphasized your role as uploader?
 2. When was the last image you used flickr2commons to upload that overemphasized your role as uploader?
 3. Were there any images you used flickr2commons to upload during that period where it didn't overemphasize your role as uploader?
 • It would be useful to determine this. If you decide to help get to the bottom of this problem, after all, will you need some help with a list of the 804 images? Do you need to have that list broken down by month? If you lack the skills to do this people will help you. I am prepared to help you.
 • You wrote my tone NEEDS to change... Well, if you don't consider my good faith comments here as having shown a change in tone, it is because I thought it important to restate the situation clearly. I don't think anyone is calling on you to take more responsibility than they would take themselves, if they were in your situation. Geo Swan (talk) 21:26, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
As far as I can see BaldBoris has done nothing inappropriate here. "Uploaded by BaldBoris" is a true statement, regardless of how that sentence arose. I do not agree that this is "overemphasized" as it is merely stated - you can see the same in the history. He is not claiming to be the creator of those images, and anything else which might be incorrect. MSGJ (talk) 16:42, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
