Please provide the photographer's name or other informations about end-owner of this photo, it seems you took it from a blog service site and mis credited the media. Copyright issues are watched there. Welcome message is not spam but informations to get your uploads not be deleted. Cheers Greudin (talk) 17:22, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't reinstate messages that I have removed! I've replied with my reasoning at File talk:Killing a Harp Seal.jpg. Cheers, MSGJ (talk) 17:31, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Are you the end owner ? It seems to be IFAW.org but Google doesn't show more. Please investigate to find the copyrights about it and I'll restore (or another admin) the photo. Found two copies of it [1] [2] (This is not my photo, of course.). Ask the Commons:Village Pump for help or watch back the welcome message :/ Greudin (talk) 18:21, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I have no idea about the image, except that I found it on a website which said that I had permission to use it. MSGJ (talk) 21:13, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Hello, MSGJ!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Pay attention to licensing
Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.

File:John Ashley 2.jpg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file.

If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.

العربية  Deutsch  English  español  français  日本語  മലയാളം  polski  português  slovenščina  svenska  Tiếng Việt  简体中文  繁體中文  +/−

The reason given by the user who added this tag is: Why is this Public Domain in the US? When was this photo published? The Ashley lived until 1924 - so it could be before 1923 and, if published, PD.

Pages in ENWP with /Comments[edit]

If you look under my userpage on ENWP for deleted subpages you will find one that contains all the \Comments subpages. I did it a couple years ago, I don't suspect it's changed much. I also submitted the entire group for deletion but that was closed. So if you find that, it should contain the list as well. There was never much support for deleting this garbage but maybe you will have more luck than I did. Reguyla (talk) 13:58, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's also worth mentioning that a lot of these comments are nothing more than the article assessment ratings that were used prior to creating the WikiProject banners. Reguyla (talk) 23:45, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It really isn't me[edit]

I am going to leave one comment on this matter and that's it. I don't care if you believe me or not but that editor you blocked isn't me. You just blocked an editor who was trying to improve Wikipedia, just like me. Great job! Reguyla (talk) 15:01, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's kinda funny how that IP is obviously avoiding scrutiny/socking but no one cares. No IP with half a dozen edits is going to know or care about the page for tracking my alternate accounts on ENWP. It's really disappointing and frustrating when a new editor who has done nothing but positive edits is banned as someone else without evidence and with only assumptions but then the same arguments used on them are completely ignored out of convenience when displayed on the talk page of the editor who made the decision to do the block on the other account. Don't you think that's funny? Reguyla (talk) 02:55, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:PM Abiy Ahmed Ali (cropped2).jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Thank you for creating the Wikidata infobox for the above. I will be correcting more of it as I progress with more citations in my current workup of his en.wikipedia article. For sure he was not born in 1848 - it does not match with his age at death, or with the birth date given by newspaper articles during his lifetime or in his obituaries of 1922. Early newspaper articles originating in Birmingham (where they were proud of him) say that he was born in Birmingham, but later articles originating outside Birmingham state that he was born in Wolverhampton, and indeed the GRO confirms Wolverhampton. At the very least, we need to show doubt regarding Birmingham. I shall put both locations in the WP article, unless or until I can afford to purchase the birth certificate. There is no question of who his father was, so the birth certificate should be clear on that. I shall add a link to the Wikidata when the article is published on WP. Cheers. Thanks for the note. The accepted way of dealing with incorrect information on Wikidata, is to mark as deprecated. This also prevents a future editor coming along and re-adding it. Please see wikidata:Help:Deprecation for more details MSGJ (talk) 16:07, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
