There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Your monument photos

Thank-you for uploading your photographs to Commons and sharing them freely. I particularly love the detailed images File:Vishwanath N-MP-23.jpg and File:Taj Mahal N-UP-A28-a.jpg. I think both are potential Featured Pictures. I have some suggestions to make, and have identified a problem with the Taj Mahal picture:

• It is useful to supply geolocation for outdoor photographs. Have a look at my File:King's Cross Station Euston Road 2012-05-27.jpg where the "Camera Location" is specified using a template. You can get the details by going to the Geolocator website and zooming in on your photo location. That website supplies a template you can then copy/paste into the Commons image page.

• Your images are good enough that people will want to reuse them. In order to ensure appropriate attribution is given, it helps re-users to let them know how you want them to do this. For example, see my image I linked above which uses the standard Credit Line template. This form supplies my name (I don't use my full name on Commons, but you may want to) and a hyperlinked version of the CC-BY-SA 3.0 licence which re-users must mention in addition to my name. An alternative is to be even more obvious like Diliff's File:Kew Gardens Palm House, London - July 2009.jpg.

• The Taj Mahal picture is probably the finest of the actual building that we have. Certainly the detail is excellent. Do you have an even higher resolution version? Or one that includes the gardens? I'm not opposed to a bit of downsampling of stitched pictures as often the 100% version lacks sharpness after all the rotations and stretching that goes on, but if there is a somewhat larger version with even more detail, that would be wonderful.

• The problem I have found with it is the sky. I guess that you have stitched together images using Photoshop or some other software and have been left with a hole in parts of the sky, that you've filled. But the filling is too artificial and shows banding on my monitor. Can you fix it? If you are not sure how, I could ask User:Diliff for advice as he's an expert with such images. The Taj Mahal picture has a very slight tilt in the horizontals, that you might like to fix next time you re-generate the image.

I also like File:Sanchi stairs N-MP-220.jpg and File:Etmatuddaula N-UP-A12.jpg has wonderful lighting. They are FP quality too, though the later has a tilt that needs fixing.

That Taj Mahal picture is really quite something. The detail is incredible. The sky no longer has the banding problems. However, I have a few suggestions to perfect it

• There is still a small tilt down to the right. This varies in degree depending on whether you are looking at the bottom or higher up so seems difficult to correct 100% everywhere. However, if I load into Lightroom4 and use the crop-rotate by -0.22 this seems to help overall.

• The colour temperature is quite warm. I suppose this was taken in the evening which will give a warmer light. There's an element of personal taste here but the sky is a little muddy as a result. In Lightroom4 applying a -15 to the Temp produced a more neutral temperature IMO. This scale applies to JPGs but when I edit RAW files in Lightroom, the temperature is in the Kelvin scale instead. So you might need a different value if you are working with the RAW or TIFF files. What I did was use the eye-dropper and click on a white shirt -- the man sitting on the crowded terrace with his right arm over the edge, below a man with a dark grey jacket standing up. I think with that change the sky looks nicer and the building still has a warm look.

• At the top of the left-hand inner tower, the sky next to it has some speckled lighter marks.

• Try crop 30px off the left-hand-side to balance the left and right margins.

I think those small changes would make this a sure winner for Feature Picture. Colin (talk) 19:26, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Looks good. What is your view on nominating this for FP? I see you are taking part in Wiki Loves Monuments 2012. Perhaps you want to wait till that is over before going for FP? Or does it not matter? It would be my pleasure to nominate your Taj Mahal picture, but you can do so yourself if you want. Btw, in case you are wondering, it is quite acceptable for the photographer/uploader to vote Support at the Commons:Featured picture candidates, assuming you do in fact support -- there's no need to abstain. -- Colin (talk) 11:58, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for the new, even higher resolution version. Unfortunately, the outer towers are leaning slightly and weren't before. If you open the image in a viewer and enlarge such that the tower fills the screen, then draw a selection rectangle the width of the base and stretch it up to the top, you should see the lean. I don't know what stitching software you are using. I use Hugin and this lets me indicate verticals that should be absolutely vertical in the projection.

There's a pair of birds in the middle right of the sky that are probably twins and a little distracting, so I would be tempted to clone them out. At the very top of the picture there's a glitch about 2/3 of the way along -- can that be fixed or else crop off the top few pixels? Your new high-resolution version shows up a little noise in the sky. While I don't consider that a problem, given the overall size of the image, it is an issue that should be fairly easy to fix without reducing the sharpness of the rest of the image. If I was using Lightroom, I might paint the sky with a mask and then use some strong luminance denoise -- I assume there's an equivalent way of doing this on Photoshop but I'm just learning that myself. Sorry about all the picky comments -- I know it isn't easy to get a large stitched picture to work perfectly together and hard when the resolution allows pixel peeping. Thanks for pointing out the issues.

The minarets are actually leaning. I too was worried when I first stitched the image. The architect designed them this way only. This serves two purposes : first, in case minarets fall, they will fall away from the main structures, secondly, when seen from eye, the perspective tilt adjusts them (as you are looking tilting up your head). When I made the rectangles from the main structure rectangle (by defining vertical and horizontal lines), the minarets looks tilted outwards. When you see any picture that was not corrected for tilt the minarets looks straight or tilted inwards due to perspective, as hey are all shot by tilting camera slightly upwards. The two birds are actually there, they are in a single photo.

Sky, yes, is a problem. Its most problematic area in the whole image. I tried to do whatever I could to make it look natural. As I did not have whole sky ( there are not any points to stitch), so it was created. But when I filled a color gradient to match the original sky, it displayed banding ( as the color difference between high an low sky was only 4 or 5 levels). So I wondered why this banding is not visible in the original images, and found out its due to the noise, which works as error diffusion dithering. So I put slight noise there, and it worked well. When I tried to remove noise, banding and large chunks of colors were there. Gaussian blur too does not work, banding comes back.

Dont worry about being pixel peeper or being too picky. You are trying to help me, and I am learning in the process.

If you can help me out in sorting this sky problem, it would be great.

I appreciate your explanation. It is tricky. I'm afraid I don't think I'm any more experienced at fixing these issues than you. I suggest User:Diliff and User:Benh who are very experienced with stitched panoramas and Photoshop. If you leave them a message (Diliff's talk page is on Wikipedia rather than Commons) you can say that I recommended you. If you are too shy to ask, then I can ask for you! Fixing images uploaded over

Don't worry about old revisions. I assume you still have copies of them all on your PC.

• If the current version of File:Detail on Udaigiri Cave 6.jpg is not the one you want: scan down the image page to the bottom of the revisions. There's a link called "Upload a new version of this file". Use that to upload the correct image file.

• On your PC, rename the other files to the names you want to give them. Upload them as new images.

• If you want to change the name of a file that you've uploaded, see COM:FAQ#MOVE.

If you really don't want the old revisions being there (e.g., you never meant to upload them to Commons at all) then I suggest you post something at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard.

BTW, I'm watchlisting your talk page so you can reply here and I'll spot it (when I'm around).
