Over at EN:WP I note that last year you restored talkpage access to Vote (X) for Change. One minute later you withdrew it again - it's not clear why you did that as there had been no misuse in the meantime. Can you restore the access given that it's easy enough to turn it off should your trust be misplaced? I'm writing again because the possible unbanning of Betacommand is being discussed in an RfC. Betacommand is free to communicate through his talk page, so quite clearly removing talk page access from an allegedly banned user is out of process. You suggest taking the request to the administrators' noticeboard at English Wikipedia. As I understand the position, banned users are not permitted to edit outside of User talk:Jimbo Wales and their own talk page, and that exclusion would apply to en:AN. 46 days to Christmas I heard on the radio on Monday. If we don't speak before, a very merry Christmas and happy new year. I have just discovered that ArbCom no longer hears appeals from allegedly banned users. This puts your last comment in context. On the talk page of the editor we were discussing above, two sections above yours, there is a notice saying that appeals should be addressed to the Arbitration Committee. There is a disconnect here. Women's March cats

It looks like we may have started to take action at the same time. For all of the locations for which we have images of both the 2017 and 2018 events, I renamed the dateless category for 2017 to have a year and put them both under "[location] Women's March" which is then under "Women's March" (except when under a higher-level geographic location, e.g. LA in the United States). That didn't quite look right, and I wasn't sure what to do with the locations for which we only have one year. Just now I grouped Calgary (the only Canadian city with categories for both years) and the United States under North America and thought I'd do the same (by continent) for the others with one event. Does that sound about right to you? The final question is whether to rename e.g. Category:Atlanta Women's March to be "2017 Atlanta Women's March" to establish the naming convention. I think there are a few other cities that held events, but we don't yet have images, and it would be more of a pain to rework them as needed rather than do them up front, I think. — Rhododendrites ^talk |  05:21, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Rhododendrites. Yes, I went a bit batty doing the same thing. I did what you did then undid it half way. :) Sure, what you've done so far seems basically right to me. I'm not sure the Category:Women's March in North America is necessary, though. As for the last issue, I'd probably go for adding 2017 to avoid having Category:2017 Women's March in the United States with the mixed 2017 and those without. Go for consistency so it doesn't look odd. Also, there may be 2018, right? This is sort of confusing me, as you may now detect. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:54, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

I think I'm going to leave it as-is for now (decent stopping point). Tomorrow, if I have time, I'm going to go ahead and group them as I had planned (I'm not sure if I've articulated it well), and would be happy ("happy" may be too strong of a word) to undo if it doesn't seem like it works. I don't have a strong opinion. I think there's generally a preference not to have a category with only one item in it if it's not necessary. The result, however, would be that we'd have a mix of e.g. "2017 Ann Arbor Women's March" and "San Francisco Women's March" (sans date) in the same parent category. Sorry, had some other wiki-related projects I was working on in the last couple days. :) All looks good to me. Looking around at all the categories, I'm feeling inclined to rename all of the 2017 categories to indicate they are 2017. It's confusing to have, say "Calgary Women's March" be a container for 2017 and 2018, while "Amsterdam Women's March" is specifically 2017. Thanks for doing all that. I just went through and moved the last few non-US events to include the date.

The last remaining thing, I think, is the question of what to do with the hypothetical "by location" cats. If each location only had one event, it would be easy enough to put them in Women's March 2017 and Women's March 2018 and be done with it, but we have a few places with two events. So we have e.g. Category:Denver Women's March, with 2017 and 2018. So where does Denver go? Well, there are a bunch in the US so it can go in Category:Women's March in the United States. But now where does that go? Category:Women's March seems like the only sensible relevant category for it, right? But then, because multiple events only happened in a couple different countries, Women's March contains 2017, 2018, and then the US and Canada. That would give me the impression that it only happened in the US and Canada if I stumbled upon that category. This was my rationale for grouping by continent before. It would be better not to create dozens of categories for individual countries that each only have one subcategory. Instead, the existing events could just be grouped into the continents, with each having at least two (I think). Does that make sense? — Rhododendrites ^talk |  04:28, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Ok I think it's about as done as it can be? Category:Women's March. Still feels slightly awkward to have e.g. Category:Women's March in the United States with subcats for 2017 and 2018 and then also subcats for locations. It would make sense to have a "... by location" and "... by year" but then we get into the issue of single-event locations needed to fill in the former. • Okay, I understand you didn't realize the category name implied you owned the intellectual property rights to these images. This is actually a quite serious problem, as the creative commons share-alike license absolutely requires us to properly credit the photographer. I am not a lawyer, but I think you could actually risk being sued by the photographers for ignoring the most crucial requirement of their licenses.

I draw your attention to this search for categories that include "files uploaded by". That is how over 8,000 other contributors categorize the image they uploaded.

I put a {{Move}} template on the image. A week or so from now a bot will (1) rename the category; (2) move all the files from the old category to the new category; (3) turn the old category into a redirect to the new category. Letting a bot do the move is a big time-saver.

I think our templates should be modified to further prevent re-users being confused as to who to credit. I've uploaded thousands of photos I took of Toronto, my home town, and thousands of free photos other people took. When I do an image search for Geo Swan, most of the images that re-users credit to me are images taken by other people, that I merely uploaded. And I don't even add a category with my name to other peoples' images, when I upload them.

(talk page stalker) FWIW while I agree that best practices would use language that most accurately describes the nature of the file, it is a user category. Those aren't even visible to people who aren't logged in with that option checked. We have a dedicated "author" field that looks to have been properly filled out. The language people use in their user categories varies, and I've definitely seen other cases when the relationship between the user and the file via their category wasn't clear -- but it's quickly cleared up by looking at the description. And then there are those of us with painfully detailed user category trees to make those distinctions. :) — Rhododendrites ^talk |  05:59, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the input, Rhododendrites. Yes, indeed it is a user cat and not a main cat. Geo Swan is the second person to raise this, so I figured the path that puts this to rest is best. No loss to me having a differently named cat, and if it makes others more comfortable, then fine. Odd, though, that when I decided on this cat name years ago, I did so after seeing what others did. At that time, that seemed to be how it was done. I must have missed the "...uploaded by..." cats, which must have existed too at that time. Anyhow, all's well that ends well. This is an animated file which has been imported into en:Italy. It's in the top right hand corner of the section "Italian unification" and if you watch it the words highlighted in green will appear in the top right hand corner of the map. I would suggest changing them to the more neutral

To thank your thanks thereat, I provide you with (sorry again :) "only the pic" of some delicacy that is too simple (i.e. sophisticated) to describe, such as "Çakallı menemeni". Remove image I loaded too soon

Regarding File: O'Connor Sculpture & Book.jpg|O'Connor Sculpture & Book

Please can you help me to get the above-mentioned image removed from Wiki Commons? It is urgent.

I loaded it before I fully understood the Australian Copyright Act. As I now know, the rule for copyright on works of art is that, even if I own the physical work of art, I do not own the right to publish images of it. I am in the process of getting permission from the two people who own the copyright. But meanwhile the image should be removed from Wiki Commons. Please.

I have asked the Commons Admin Jarrah Tree to remove it, but he/she has a note on the talk page that he/she is away from Wikipedia at the moment.

Please can you help?

All the image content is owned by me/Allstars Kids Club.

I created the products, artwork and own every part of it. I sent 'christianbooks.com the image for their store.

The Allstars banner is from our website and facebook page.

There is no copyright infringement.

I had also deleted any 'sales' part of the orginal text - as this is a new thing for me - and apologies for any errors I made in the text.
