Thanks

Thanks for the speedy tag. I've raised the issue at Commons talk:Criteria for speedy deletion#Photos of children with geolocation if you'd care to pile in. Cabayi (talk) 12:02, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

Talk page access

Over at EN:WP I note that last year you restored talkpage access to Vote (X) for Change. One minute later you withdrew it again - it's not clear why you did that as there had been no misuse in the meantime. Can you restore the access given that it's easy enough to turn it off should your trust be misplaced? At AN today Ivanvector has confirmed that talkpage access is the norm, even when the page owner is allegedly banned. 62.140.210.135 14:19, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

Absolutely not. Please take the request to the administrators' noticeboard at English Wikipedia if you wish. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:35, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for that. I understand that China is having a "mid - autumn festival" about this time. I don't know what it's about, but no doubt you and your family will enjoy yourselves. I'm writing again because the possible unbanning of Betacommand is being discussed in an RfC. Betacommand is free to communicate through his talk page, so quite clearly removing talk page access from an allegedly banned user is out of process. You suggest taking the request to the administrators' noticeboard at English Wikipedia. As I understand the position, banned users are not permitted to edit outside of User talk:Jimbo Wales and their own talk page, and that exclusion would apply to en:AN. Does the advice you gave indicate that you consider that Vote (X) for Change is not banned, per the diffs given here on 3 December? 80.5.88.48 09:02, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
It's this [1]. Sounds fun. The moon is full so I guess it's on now. The Jewish people also have an autumn festival - looking out of the window I can see them walking about with branches wrapped in plastic. There was loud singing from the synagogue last night which went on till after midnight. All the best, 156.61.250.250 09:16, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
46 days to Christmas I heard on the radio on Monday. If we don't speak before, a very merry Christmas and happy new year. I have just discovered that ArbCom no longer hears appeals from allegedly banned users. This puts your last comment in context. On the talk page of the editor we were discussing above, two sections above yours, there is a notice saying that appeals should be addressed to the Arbitration Committee. There is a disconnect here. As an administrator on en:wp, can you sort it out? 156.61.250.250 13:51, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Women's March cats

It looks like we may have started to take action at the same time. For all of the locations for which we have images of both the 2017 and 2018 events, I renamed the dateless category for 2017 to have a year and put them both under "[location] Women's March" which is then under "Women's March" (except when under a higher-level geographic location, e.g. LA in the United States). That didn't quite look right, and I wasn't sure what to do with the locations for which we only have one year. Just now I grouped Calgary (the only Canadian city with categories for both years) and the United States under North America and thought I'd do the same (by continent) for the others with one event. Does that sound about right to you? The final question is whether to rename e.g. Category:Atlanta Women's March to be "2017 Atlanta Women's March" to establish the naming convention. I think there are a few other cities that held events, but we don't yet have images, and it would be more of a pain to rework them as needed rather than do them up front, I think. — Rhododendrites talk05:21, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Rhododendrites. Yes, I went a bit batty doing the same thing. I did what you did then undid it half way. :) Sure, what you've done so far seems basically right to me. I'm not sure the Category:Women's March in North America is necessary, though. As for the last issue, I'd probably go for adding 2017 to avoid having Category:2017 Women's March in the United States with the mixed 2017 and those without. Go for consistency so it doesn't look odd. Also, there may be 2018, right? This is sort of confusing me, as you may now detect. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:54, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
I think I'm going to leave it as-is for now (decent stopping point). Tomorrow, if I have time, I'm going to go ahead and group them as I had planned (I'm not sure if I've articulated it well), and would be happy ("happy" may be too strong of a word) to undo if it doesn't seem like it works. Will ping you to get your thoughts. — Rhododendrites talk06:24, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
Please feel free to task me. You can wake up tomorrow and see how many I've done. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I should do this:
1. Go to Category:2017 Women's March in the United States
2. Move Category:Ann Arbor Women's March to Category:2017 Ann Arbor Women's March
3. Do the next one.
Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:31, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
That sounds great. The only exceptions are those that already have a subcategory for 2017. :) — Rhododendrites talk06:49, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
Understood. I'll do my best. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:14, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
Rhododendrites, should I leave Category:2017 Ann Arbor Women's March's parent Category:Ann Arbor Women's March? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:58, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
I don't have a strong opinion. I think there's generally a preference not to have a category with only one item in it if it's not necessary. The result, however, would be that we'd have a mix of e.g. "2017 Ann Arbor Women's March" and "San Francisco Women's March" (sans date) in the same parent category. That's probably not a big deal, though. — Rhododendrites talk13:50, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
Rhododendrites, hi. I'm so sorry to bother you again. Please check Ann Arbor and Atlanta at Category:2017 Women's March in the United States to see if I got the cats right and all is well. If so, then I'll do the rest. I must say, this simple thing is somehow quite confusing to me. I must be getting dumber or something. Please forgive me. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:09, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, had some other wiki-related projects I was working on in the last couple days. :) All looks good to me. Looking around at all the categories, I'm feeling inclined to rename all of the 2017 categories to indicate they are 2017. It's confusing to have, say "Calgary Women's March" be a container for 2017 and 2018, while "Amsterdam Women's March" is specifically 2017. What do you think? — Rhododendrites talk17:34, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Rhododendrites. Okay, I renamed all the 2017 categories to indicate they are 2017. I got rid of the North America cat and now sort of regret that. Now what? Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:03, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for doing all that. I just went through and moved the last few non-US events to include the date.
The last remaining thing, I think, is the question of what to do with the hypothetical "by location" cats. If each location only had one event, it would be easy enough to put them in Women's March 2017 and Women's March 2018 and be done with it, but we have a few places with two events. So we have e.g. Category:Denver Women's March, with 2017 and 2018. So where does Denver go? Well, there are a bunch in the US so it can go in Category:Women's March in the United States. But now where does that go? Category:Women's March seems like the only sensible relevant category for it, right? But then, because multiple events only happened in a couple different countries, Women's March contains 2017, 2018, and then the US and Canada. That would give me the impression that it only happened in the US and Canada if I stumbled upon that category. This was my rationale for grouping by continent before. It would be better not to create dozens of categories for individual countries that each only have one subcategory. Instead, the existing events could just be grouped into the continents, with each having at least two (I think). Does that make sense? — Rhododendrites talk04:28, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
Hi Rhododendrites. Ah, now I get the reason for your grouping by continent. Yes, that makes good sense. Let's do continents. Problem solved. Clever bunny you are. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 19:40, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
Ok I think it's about as done as it can be? Category:Women's March. Still feels slightly awkward to have e.g. Category:Women's March in the United States with subcats for 2017 and 2018 and then also subcats for locations. It would make sense to have a "... by location" and "... by year" but then we get into the issue of single-event locations needed to fill in the former. I'm inclined to leave it alone as "good enough" at this point. What do you think? — Rhododendrites talk06:16, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

clarification please

File:Nanwan Monkey Island 02.jpg is currently in Category:Files by User:Anna Frodesiak. But the {{Information}} template suggests it belongs in Category:Photographs by Lucius Kwok...

Could you take a look? Geo Swan (talk) 23:18, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Geo Swan. Someone mentioned this before to me. I replied that the category is simply to help me keep track of items I either uploaded or modified one way or another. It does not mean to imply that they are mine. If it is important to you, I could rename the category to something else. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:11, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
  • Okay, I understand you didn't realize the category name implied you owned the intellectual property rights to these images. This is actually a quite serious problem, as the creative commons share-alike license absolutely requires us to properly credit the photographer. I am not a lawyer, but I think you could actually risk being sued by the photographers for ignoring the most crucial requirement of their licenses.
I draw your attention to this search for categories that include "files uploaded by". That is how over 8,000 other contributors categorize the image they uploaded.
I put a {{Move}} template on the image. A week or so from now a bot will (1) rename the category; (2) move all the files from the old category to the new category; (3) turn the old category into a redirect to the new category. Letting a bot do the move is a big time-saver.
I think our templates should be modified to further prevent re-users being confused as to who to credit. I've uploaded thousands of photos I took of Toronto, my home town, and thousands of free photos other people took. When I do an image search for Geo Swan, most of the images that re-users credit to me are images taken by other people, that I merely uploaded. And I don't even add a category with my name to other peoples' images, when I upload them.
Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 03:42, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
I've gone ahead and cat a lotted them myself. I hope that's okay. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Best wishes. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:02, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) FWIW while I agree that best practices would use language that most accurately describes the nature of the file, it is a user category. Those aren't even visible to people who aren't logged in with that option checked. We have a dedicated "author" field that looks to have been properly filled out. The language people use in their user categories varies, and I've definitely seen other cases when the relationship between the user and the file via their category wasn't clear -- but it's quickly cleared up by looking at the description. And then there are those of us with painfully detailed user category trees to make those distinctions. :) — Rhododendrites talk05:59, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the input, Rhododendrites. Yes, indeed it is a user cat and not a main cat. Geo Swan is the second person to raise this, so I figured the path that puts this to rest is best. No loss to me having a differently named cat, and if it makes others more comfortable, then fine. Odd, though, that when I decided on this cat name years ago, I did so after seeing what others did. At that time, that seemed to be how it was done. I must have missed the "...uploaded by..." cats, which must have existed too at that time. Anyhow, all's well that ends well. Sorry, Geo Swan, for all the fuss. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:19, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi DENAMAX. You cannot transfer. However, you can upload to those individual projects and add the same sort of license you see for those files. But keep in mind whether or not the non-free is justified. The policy says this. The important part is whether or not the article needs the image. Brrr!

The "Beast from the East" (Russia, not China) is back and it's freezing cold over here. The legend on File:Italian-unification.gif reads:

7 December 1860 Papal troops were kicked out from Pontecorvo

I have no idea of how to modify a file on Commons. Can you make the wording less political? Warmest regards, 156.61.250.250 14:46, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

Where exactly does "Beast from the East" appear. Please provide an url. Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:59, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
This is an animated file which has been imported into en:Italy. It's in the top right hand corner of the section "Italian unification" and if you watch it the words highlighted in green will appear in the top right hand corner of the map. I would suggest changing them to the more neutral

7 December 1860 Papal troops were expelled from Pontecorvo

Regards, 51.140.123.26 08:42, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

I don't see it and am not sure if anyone else will either. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 14:50, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

Take a look at this and delete at leisure:

What you should see is

  • 2 maps of 1829
  • 1 map of 1847
  • 2 maps of 1859
  • a series of maps of 1860, of which the one with the offending summary is the eleventh

If you don't see it it means the Chinese authorities are restricting your access to Commons and you shouldn't worry about it. All the best, 77.44.12.100 10:50, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

I don't see it. And the the gif is entirely viewable, so the Chinese authorities aren't doing anything. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:09, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
Now I'm really intrigued. This is what I see from beginning to end:
  • Italy by 1829
  • 1829 Duchy of Massa and Carrara was annexed by Duchy of Modena and Reggio
  • 1847 Duchy of Lucha was annexed by Toscana and Modena. Borders between Modena, Parma and Toscana were changed
  • 11 July 1859 Armistice in Villafranca after Second Italian War of Independence. Transfering the major part of Lombardy to Kingdom of Sardinia with French mediation. (confirmed by Treaty of Zurich in 11 November 1859)
  • 8 December 1859 United Provinces of Central Italy were created
  • 22 March 1860 Central Italy was united with Kingdom of Sardinia
  • 24 March 1860 Treaty of Turin. Savoy and Nice were annexed to France
  • 18 July 1860 Kingdom of Savoy removed its troops from Monaco
  • 18 August 1860 Basilicata proclaimed joining to Kingdom of Sardinia
  • 21 August 1860 Apulia proclaimed joining to Kingdom of Sardinia
  • 2 September 1860 Pontecorvo was joined to Kingdom of Sardinia
  • 3 September 1860 Benevento was joined to Kingdom of Sardinia
  • 7 September 1860 Naples was liberated
  • 16 September 1860 Papal troops retrieved Pontecorvo
  • 21 October 1860 After the plebiscite Southern Italy was joined to Kingdom of Sardinia
  • 7 December 1860 Papal troops were kicked out from Pontecorvo
  • 17 December 1860 after plebiscite of 4th November Marche and Umbria were joined to Kingdom of Sardinia
  • 2 February 1861 Monaco transmitted Metana to France
  • 17 March 1861 Proclamation of Kingdom of Italy
  • 3-4 February 1865 Florence became the capital
  • 23 August 1866 Peace of Prague. After Austro-Prussian war Veneto was ceded to France, then France ceded it to Italia
  • 20 September 1870 Papal State was annexed by Italy
  • 3 February 1871 Rome became the capital of Italy

Words in bold need changing. Please review each bullet point individually and let me know how your view differs from mine. Thanks. 80.5.88.70 12:39, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

No thanks. Where's "beast"? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:44, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Here [2]. The Chinese would probably grade it as a minor inconvenience. They classify their winters by the number of overcoats needed to keep warm.

You judged a winter by the number of quilted coats you had to wear, and a "three coat" winter was cold enough to freeze the tea in the pot.

- Alan Burgess, The Small Woman.

I once heard Gladys Aylward preach a sermon in an Oxford church. She endured at least one "six coat winter" in China. 92.31.136.139 14:11, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Warm food

Çakallı menemeni in a sahan

Hi. Thanks for opening Category:Food warmers. Maybe you should also see Category:Heated baths and do something to adjust things in the two cats. Having food in a bath sounds strange, doesn't it? Best. --E4024 (talk) 06:50, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello, E4024. Thank you for pointing this out. Please comment at Category talk:Heated baths. I have posted at a couple of English Wikipedia talk pages asking for others to come and share their views. Please share yours too. I do not quite know what to do. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:47, 17 April 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, I could not help much, other than contributing with a small change in some cheese fondue file or cat. To thank your thanks thereat, I provide you with (sorry again :) "only the pic" of some delicacy that is too simple (i.e. sophisticated) to describe, such as "Çakallı menemeni". If a famous food writer passes by Turkey I recommend them to go all the way to Çakallı, near Samsun, IMHO one of the most beautiful cities of Turkey, thankfully not discovered yet by tourists. --E4024 (talk) 13:50, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi E4024 . Any contributions to the categories is welcome, no matter how big or small. And wow! It looks so lovely. So many wonderful views! You are so lucky to live there. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 19:55, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

Certain cross-wiki troll

Hello.
Please, don’t ping me in relation to this because I did not intersect with this person. Jeff dragged you into the middle of a dispute which had more to do with his competence rather than Wikipedia abuser(s). Now the same advice: you are encouraged to go to the m:Requests for comment page and request a (formally binding) global ban accordingly to the workflow diagram on the right, instead of arguing on obscure user_talk:IP pages. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 08:39, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Thank you very very much for the advice. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:58, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Incnis Mrsi: I pinged Anna because Anna blocked the troll on enwiki and the troll has been harassing Anna on this page. Attempts at m:Global bans for already globally locked & blocked users are pointless, as the end results of global locks & blocks have already been achieved. Do not insult me again.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 14:41, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
"Anna blocked the troll on enwiki" - link to block log please.
"the troll has been harassing Anna on this page" - Anna hasn't been complaining.
I suggest you tone down your rhetoric as the next person to get a global lock/block might be you. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 150.143.100.205 (talk) 16:18, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
If 150.143.100.205 is Incnis Mrsi:
1. It is true. Go find the link yourself.
2. I'm complaining.
3. Nonsense.
4. Keep sight of what is going on here. Jeff G. ツ is here to help the project. The IP is here to disrupt.
5. Good day to you, sir!

Remove image I loaded too soon

Regarding File: O'Connor Sculpture & Book.jpg|O'Connor Sculpture & Book

Please can you help me to get the above-mentioned image removed from Wiki Commons? It is urgent.

I loaded it before I fully understood the Australian Copyright Act. As I now know, the rule for copyright on works of art is that, even if I own the physical work of art, I do not own the right to publish images of it. I am in the process of getting permission from the two people who own the copyright. But meanwhile the image should be removed from Wiki Commons. Please.

I have asked the Commons Admin Jarrah Tree to remove it, but he/she has a note on the talk page that he/she is away from Wikipedia at the moment.

Please can you help?

For information about the Act, see Australian Copyright Council Information Sheets https://www.copyright.org.au/ACC/Find_an_Answer/Search/ACC/Public_Content/Information_Sheets_Search.aspx?hkey=90d04fe1-0e04-4cf1-b314-9941d5e386e7

INFORMATION SHEET G033v17 January 2017: Artists & Copyright

“Ownership of copyright is separate from ownership of the physical item. Buying a picture, book, photograph or CD does not give you rights to copy it.” and “Where copyright in an artwork is jointly owned, permission is usually required from each owner.”

Allstars Kids Club

Hi Anna

All the image content is owned by me/Allstars Kids Club.

I created the products, artwork and own every part of it. I sent 'christianbooks.com the image for their store.

The Allstars banner is from our website and facebook page.

There is no copyright infringement.

I had also deleted any 'sales' part of the orginal text - as this is a new thing for me - and apologies for any errors I made in the text.

Thanks,

Si

Hi Allstars Kids Club. Understood. I'll let an administrator decide. I just tagged them. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:59, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello Anna Frodesiak/archive2, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

Hi, Racconish. I do not remember what Kedjenou with rice 1.jpg was, but I know I own File:Lensless glasses - 01.jpg. I'm not sure why that was deleted. Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:17, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
Hello. The first is from here, the second from there. Both are licensed under CC BY-NC-SA which is not accepted at Commons. — Racconish💬 08:32, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi, Racconish. Ah, right. It was File:Lensless glasses - 02.jpg that I own. Yes, I'm sure you're right. I cannot access Flickr now from here in China. I think I did not understand the licenses back then. I must have uploaded those nearly a decade ago. Sorry for the trouble, and best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:28, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
This was an image from Roger Price in 2012 if it helps. Cheers, — Racconish💬 09:32, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

Wrong information

Wrong information. #1 singles in US cannot have unexplained date changes such as I Honestly Love You and Three Times a Lady. Was SummerPhDv2.0 born in June and does she live in Nebraska? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scoobybay26 (talk • contribs) 22:41, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
