Thanks for uploading File:Syntorchestra Demo.wav. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Translation prep and markup for WLA[edit]

Hello

I saw that you have prepared the Team page for Wiki Loves Africa and I thank you for that. I am struggling with those markups...

Would it be possible that you do the same for the Commons:Wiki Loves Africa 2021/How to Enter page so that we can finalize its proper translation ? Your help would be very appreciated. Thanks

Anthere (talk)

Hello @Anthere: I have marked the page for translation. Next time it would be helpful to request this before starting with translation without the translation system, like at Commons:Wiki Loves Africa 2021/How to Enter/fr, because migrating the translations into the translation system is a bit of extra work. Best regards --Ameisenigel (talk) 11:54, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Translations on Beta[edit]

Hi Ameisenigel, I noticed you're translating on Beta Commons. I assume that is to experiment and see what works? For example Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments/Philosophie is already fully translated. Multichill (talk) 15:44, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it was just for testing. --Ameisenigel (talk) 16:54, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good, I was afraid you might have been doing some double work. I noticed it because you pinged me in one of the edits. Multichill (talk) 15:58, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requests to mark for translation[edit]

Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments in Bangladesh/Header[edit]

Hi, Please mark this for translation. The reason is we use Bengali logo for Bengali version and English logo for English version (see all our logo). See also our Bengali wikipedia page. However here file name is hardcoded and we are unable to use Bengali logo for Bengali version e.g. for Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2020_in_Bangladesh/bn. I will put a note to "/qqq" not translate that for other language. Thank you. আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 22:39, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My request for adminship[edit]

Hello! I want to thank you for your participation and input in my recently failed request for adminship. I take every word everybody said in the most constructive way and it is my intention to not only do my best for Commons (as long as time and real life allows me to), but to continue learning and helping out whenever I can. I don't take your oppose vote as something negative, much on the contrary, it is certainly enlightening. Once again, thank you for your vote and I hope to see you again, collaborating around Commons. Have a good day. Bedivere (talk) 03:17, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I hope that you continue to contribute to Commons and that you consider re-applying for adminship once you have gained more experience. --Ameisenigel (talk) 07:02, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ameisenigel, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Wiki Loves Earth 2023 - Deutschland[edit]

Hallo Ameisenigel,

Upload your photos for WLE

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open![edit]

2022 Picture of the Year: Saint John Church of Sohrol in Iran.

Read this message in your language

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Raymond (talk) 17:30, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Regarding QuickStatements batch #219910[edit]

Hi!

Through an email notification I became aware of oddities in this batch.

Objects that are an instance of socken (Q1523821) should not be used under depicts (P180) because they are in turn a subclass of historical administrative division (Q19832712), and only used for historical purposes. -- LevandeMänniska (talk), 11:21, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I can start a batch later and remove the statements for socken (Q1523821) instances as depicts (P180) --Ameisenigel (talk) 11:25, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! -- LevandeMänniska (talk), 11:33, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Batch is now running --Ameisenigel (talk) 16:01, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Würdest DU mir[edit]

bitte Deine Email mitteilen? Ich möchte Dir etwas weiterleiten. Danke, --Nicola (talk) 11:05, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, dear license reviewer[edit]

If you use the helper gadget, you will find the links next to the search box (vector) or as single tabs (monobook). They are named license+ and license-.

Hi Ameisenigel, thanks for your request for license reviewer status. The request has been closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can now start reviewing files – please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Potential backlogs include Flickr review and files from other sources. You can enable the LicenseReview gadget from Preferences.

Important: You should not review your own uploads, nor those of anyone closely related to you!

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.libera.chat. You can also add {{User license reviewer}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! Killarnee (talk) 11:31, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Protection request[edit]

Hello.

Can you protect File:Brown rat distribution.png and keep it as it was originally uploaded, so that only administrators can upload and edit it? A user puts the unsubstantiated arguement that the entire Canadian province of Alberta, has no brown rats whatsoever and puts the arbitrary provincial boundaries as the distribution for the common brown rat, considering how baseless it seems that they stop at the provincial borders. The province has a presence of brown rats which are detected, which does means that it is totally devoid of brown rats.

Yours sincerely, Multituberculata (talk) 17:28, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I am not an administrator here and cannot protect pages. Please use COM:AN/P instead. --Ameisenigel (talk) 17:31, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the recommendation. Multituberculata (talk) 18:41, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

tvar[edit]

Betrifft {{Category description/Season by administrative division/i18n}} und {{Category description/Nature by administrative division/i18n}}.

Can you please change the name of this image file please below that I just uploaded to Commons?

I cannot send a flickrmail message to thank the flickr author with a title that has brackets in the image title. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:47, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have renamed the file as requested. --Ameisenigel (talk) 05:07, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Julio[edit]

--Ameisenigel (talk) 06:27, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you use a bot account for your quickstatements edits please?[edit]

Thanks for all the edits you're making to add structured data, they are very useful, but my watchlist is now completely flooded and I can't filter them out by only showing human (not bot) edits. Please could you use a bot account for them instead? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 07:53, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you should be able to exclude them from your watchlist if you enable a filter for edits with the tag quickstatements[2.0]. Personally I would prefer to use my main account because these edits are not performed automatically and I use different tools and queries to get the data to perform these edits. But if you prefer them to be done by a bot account I will start a request for it. --Ameisenigel (talk) 08:33, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, that works, which helps. :) I hadn't figured out that you have to click 'Tagged edits' to get that option. I think it would be better if they were done by a bot account anyway, but perhaps it's worth asking for wider input before you register for a new bot account etc. - perhaps we should start a discussion somewhere like Commons:Village pump? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 08:55, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that sounds good. --Ameisenigel (talk) 11:27, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New media resource for maps: translations[edit]

Hello. I added a new resource here. I had done it once before, and then you removed the "<!--T:21-->" mark that I had placed along with it, commenting "translation units should be placed by the translate extension, not manually", and you restored it several weeks later ("Marked this version for translation"). I don't know anything about translation units. Today, for the new resource, I manually added "<!--T:22-->". Is this OK?. Thanks. MGeog2022 (talk) 19:38, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. It is not directly visible that there is a difference, but these translation units are added automatically if a translation admin marks the page for translation at Special:PageTranslation. You just need to add the translate tags, not the translation units themselves. --Ameisenigel (talk) 20:28, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for fixing it. It's a bit confusing, since the result is the same as when done manually. MGeog2022 (talk) 07:28, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Main subject for files that depict a work with wikidata item[edit]

When an image depicts / is a specific work for which there is a Wikidata item, please do not set it as "Main subject" but in "Depicts" or maybe elsewhere. Main subject is for "primary topic of a work" but when an image displays a certain image that is not the primary topic, it is the image (or depicted by it). Example. Thanks for your other wikidata edits, Prototyperspective (talk) 10:29, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have tried to follow Commons:Structured data/Modeling/Depiction: "If the main subject of an image is a work of art for which we have an item on Wikidata, main subject (P921) is used (together with the same depicts (P180) statement). This can be used for any type of visual artwork." Since I cannot add both statements in one edit I have started with addding P921 and planed to add the same P180 later. --Ameisenigel (talk) 10:34, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for explaining. I think not adding the work of art as main subject to the work's digital representation would be something to propose at there then. Since the prop "digital representation of" exists it seems like adding this to the other two props is redundant, especially the one I object to. Prototyperspective (talk) 11:28, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Main subject for an edition of a work[edit]

You've made multiple edits like this one, where the "subject" of a published edition is the work it's an edition of. That's the wrong property. It's not a work about that; it is an edition of that work. --EncycloPetey (talk) 00:33, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this wrong? Yes, it is an edition of a work, but the main subject of this file is exactly this edition. This is the most precise statement that is possible. --Ameisenigel (talk) 06:13, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just came here with a similar query, and noticed both the above comments. Perhaps the best property for a scanned book is P6243, "digital representation of"? That seems better than "depicts", which is what I'd use where an object was portrayed in a visial artwork, not a book. And "subject" seems better for a book about Henry Adams's 1918 work, not the work itself. —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 23:03, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
According to Commons:Structured data/Modeling/Depiction we always have to use "depicts" as well if we use either "main subject" or "digital representation". And if we use "digital representation" we should add the same value as the "main subject". I agree that it might make sense to add "digital representation" as a statement here, but according to the current guidelines we should still keep the "main subject" statement as well. --Ameisenigel (talk) 06:20, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've voiced the exact same concern just on thread further up. Could you please go ahead and request a change to Commons:Structured data/Modeling/Depiction which currently supports the change as made by Ameisenigel? Also @Giantflightlessbirds: Prototyperspective (talk) 09:50, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Earth 2024 - Deutschland[edit]

Hallo Ameisenigel,

Raymond (talk) 19:18, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

premature[edit]

Commons:File naming is currently undergoing a review. I noticed you just marked it for translation. Potentially it's a waste of time if the page gets reverted. Enhancing999 (talk) 14:54, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the page has been quite stable for nearly one month. --Ameisenigel (talk) 14:55, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"stable" here means Commnos users don't editwar, but discuss controversial proposals from discussion only (or mainly) accounts importing content from English Wikipedia (or elsewhere). Enhancing999 (talk) 15:08, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you going to change it to "translation discouraged" or do I need to revert it so it appears "unstable"? How shall we fix this? Enhancing999 (talk) 22:50, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am just marking pages for translation, I do not have any power to decide about the actual content of the page. If you disagree with the latest changes it would be best to revert the changes. But that is not up to me. --Ameisenigel (talk) 22:55, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I think it's productive to discuss proposals even if we don't all agree with them.
Can you unmark it for translation? Or add mark it as "translation discouraged"? Both are within your function.
Not sure what happens if your last action is seen an encouraging the translation of controversial changes. Enhancing999 (talk) 23:29, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I could do this from a technical point of view, but it does not make sense: We have either a translatable page with controversial content or a not translatable page with controversial content. Wouldn't it be better to have a translatable page with uncontroversial content? --Ameisenigel (talk) 23:39, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
