Please properly use the "source" field[edit]

Hi Alpsdake,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons! It looks like a file you uploaded to Commons has "my own picture" indicated as a "Source" on File:Mount Amigasa from Mount Gongen 1995-5-28.jpg. It is important that the |Source= field, which is the record of where a file came from, be accurate and as machine-readable as possible so that others can verify its license and be able to reuse the file under the correct terms. For example, sources such as "Me", "Self" or "My camera" should be replaced with the template Own; sources such as "Google", "The Internet", etc. are not considered valid and may result in deletion of the file. If you did not generate the file yourself, then you may want to revisit the file and be as specific as you can in identifying your source: ideally, this might be a stable link to the exact webpage that the image or file came from, or perhaps the title, year, and page number of the book where you found it (a link to a website in general is not usually considered specific enough, nor is simply restating the name of the author). For guidance on indicating your source please visit the page COM:SOURCE. In this instance I have changed it for you here.

PS: Please sign your talk/discussion messages with "~~~~". When you Save the page the ~-signs are converted to your name and the current timestamp (like this:) –Krinkletalk 08:22, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the good advice. I had already done the same description to the more than 600 photographs that I had taken. It is scheduled to be corrected in the future to Own work. --Alpsdake (talk) 09:28, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please use the correct date format[edit]

Hi Alpsdake,

Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you mentioned a date on File:Mount Isokura from Mount Mae 2009-5-11.jpg. Please know that in order for dates to be automatically detected and translated into other languages it needs to be in the YYYY-MM-DD format (ie. 2024-01 for January 2024 or 2024-05-26 for 26 May 2024). Also, for other (less specific) dates use Other date for centuries, ranges, 'circa' etc. like this: between for "between 1899 and 1903

date QS:P,+1500-00-00T00:00:00Z/6,P1319,+1899-00-00T00:00:00Z/9,P1326,+1903-00-00T00:00:00Z/9

". This way the dates will be translated internally into the user's language preference. I've fixed it for you here. See for example the result in Japanese: here. Thanks again. –Krinkletalk 18:08, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the advice. I could understand it about the date format. --Alpsdake (talk) 20:39, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Alpsdake!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Pay attention to licensing
Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.

File:Birdwatching sample.jpg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file.

If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.

العربية  Deutsch  English  español  français  日本語  മലയാളം  polski  português  slovenščina  svenska  Tiếng Việt  简体中文  繁體中文  +/−

The reason given by the user who added this tag is: It's a collague, you must specify the author and license of each individual image

Ezarateesteban 13:26, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The author and license of each individual image are same (User:Alpsdake). --Alpsdake (talk) 14:43, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your photo[edit]

Hi Alpsdake,

I thought you might like to know that I've used one of your photos on my website:

http://www.unmissablejapan.com/etcetera/japanese-wildlife

I've acknowledged it by making it link back to the original page on Wikipedia.

I couldn’t find many photos of black bears in Japan, so thanks very much for making it freely available,

cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike. Thank you for the comment. You are welcome. --Alpsdake (talk) 08:03, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the advice. File:Orthetrum triangulare melania male.jpg was re-uploaded by the right name. --Alpsdake (talk) 10:14, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:Sentokun.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
