Re: Barnstar[edit]
Hello and thanks for the appreciation! Of course you can use the maps, provided they're accredited (and a mention of Commons would be appreciated too). Which ones do you intend to use, because some contain errors that I haven't yet found time to fix. Best regards, Constantine ✍ 10:48, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Constantine, thanks, that's very helpful. I am after the map of Constantinople and the 842 AD map. 842-867 AD is exactly the epoch I am writing about. Just curious - is there any reason you have chosen to go with Latin spelling for place names, ie. using C instead of K and V instead of B. Or do you think 'Kappadokia', 'Kilikia', 'Voukellarian' and 'Vythinia' looks too strange? I have decided to go for the latter, but could be convinced to switch back to Latin spelling if there is a good reason.
There are several place names which I would really appreciate seeing on the map. Is there any chance you might be inclined to include them? Pliska (capital of the Bulgar Khanate, just between present day Shumen, Dobrich and Varna). And two river names, in particular the Chalys (the main river which starts somewhere at Sebasteia/Charsianon and curves around to the sea between Amisos/Sinope. Also the Euphrates. Is that remotely possible?
Best wishes, Achilleas Mavrellis (www.empireforever.co.uk, achilleas@empireforever.co.uk)
- OK on the 842 map, and I'll add the extra names/towns (wait a couple of days for this, I'm swamped with RL concerns right now). On the map of Constantinople, there are a couple of minor errors, and I am working on an improved version. It will take a lot of time though, so use the current version if you're in a hurry. On the names, I merely used the forms most current in English. I don't think phonetic transliteration is always the best solution. Cheers, Constantine ✍ 15:48, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Fantastic! Please don't rush. Looking more closely at the Constantinople map I think it has too much detail so I probably won't use as it stands. I suspect you are very busy but I hope you won't mind me asking if there is anyway you could do a very simplified version? Say, if I were to give you a list of what I would like to see there? Also I don't need final versions before the end of the month. Also, how exactly do you want me to accredit them? As laid out in the Wiki Creative Commons blurb on your map page? I think I should put your full name as well if that's okay. All the best. Achilleas
- I've uploaded the Asia Minor maps with the river names, but couldn't include Pliska as it is a bit more north than the map covers. On the Cple map, certainly, give me the main features, and I'll be happy to make a simplified version. Constantine ✍ 18:21, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
The 842 Asia Minor map is great, thanks tons! And you are very kind to agree to make a simplified version of Constantinople. I will get you a list of what I need in the map in the next couple of days.
