Category discussion warning

International Women's Day in 2017 by country has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

File:7440Photos taken 2020 coronavirus pandemic Baliuag, Bulacan 11.jpg

Hello A1Cafel. Is File:7440Photos taken 2020 coronavirus pandemic Baliuag, Bulacan 11.jpg a COM:DW problem or not? If so, is de minimis application a possible recourse or option to the potential DW problem or not? JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 16:10, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

@JWilz12345: The artwork should be considered as a COM:DW. IMO de minimis could not be applied, as the poster occupies a big portion of the image. --A1Cafel (talk) 16:15, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

File:Antonio Carlos Rodrigues.JPG

May I ask why you decided to remove the license from File:Antonio Carlos Rodrigues.JPG without any sort of useful edit summary? AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 01:12, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

@AntiCompositeNumber: Should be a mistakes, sorry. --A1Cafel (talk) 01:38, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

What are you doing?

Why are you nominating my derived files for deletion? Original files from kremlin.ru licensed under CC-BY-4.0 and from YouTube licensed under CC-BY-3.0. There is no "Share-Alike" restriction here, I'm not required to distribute under the same license. I reworked the files, increasing their clarity and adding a flag. I indicated the original source, indicated the original author. I would still understand if I would completely pass off the work as my own without attribution. So there is no reason for nominations here. Roman Kubanskiy (talk) 07:20, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

@Roman Kubanskiy: You may used the copyright materials for the derivative work, i.e. the background is different from the original file, and it may be protected by copyright. --A1Cafel (talk) 07:25, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
I made the background myself in Photoshop, applying a generated a little texture and adding a bit of blurring plus I added a solid gray background. By the way, do you specifically upload duplicate files to delete mine files? There is a button to request a rename if you are not satisfied with the file. You can also set a more correct date, license, maybe better image resolution and so on. The file already existed, I filled it in earlier, it was already with Mirziyoyev and Zhaparov, I also had it loaded earlier. and you take and brazenly upload a duplicate, forcing my file to be deleted. Do you really want to hurt others? Roman Kubanskiy (talk) 07:28, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
@Roman Kubanskiy: Your files are not the largest, they are regarded as scaled-down files. --A1Cafel (talk) 07:41, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
I went to the Japan website, and there is exactly the same file resolution. How did you get a little more resolution? You could easily overwrite my file, it's just a couple of pixels. But no, we will specifically delete my files, because they are like duplicates. Roman Kubanskiy (talk) 07:43, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

✓ Done adding the de minimis tag and also trimming irrelevant parts of the description. Thanks for the reply. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 15:10, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for your constructive revert. The revision comment was particularly relevant. Anyway, the file description links to an archived permission from the author to release the file under the terms of a CC-BY-SA licence, therefore the copyright violation you are inferring is not obvious and a speedy deletion is not the right procedure. As you did with the other files uploaded by ArtificeBoy, this image should go through a deletion request. ››Fugitron - 17:41, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

Freedom of panorama for graphic works in Australia and in Ireland

Hi. What, in your view, is the difference between this Australian image that you transferred from Flickr (in which a graphical work (poster) appears), this Canadian image that you recently reviewed (in which a graphical work (advert) appears), and this Irish image that I transferred from Geograph (in which an incidental graphical work (shop sticker) appears)? Given that FoP for "graphic works" do not apply in any of these countries (Australia, Canada, etc), how is it that an excessive interpretation of that standard applies to one of these images, but not to others? Or those that you transfer from other Commons projects yourself? Guliolopez (talk) 17:17, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

old FlickrLickr-uploads

Hi A1Cafel, these old uploads from Flickr by FlickrLickr had been reviewed at time of upload by different established users, even admins. I therefore suspect that to be cases of change-of-license on Flickr after upload to Commons. Did you check for that at least in some cases via archive.org or alike?

--Túrelio (talk) 07:01, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

@Túrelio: Have checked some via Wayback Machine. They are either not yet saved, or the earliest available version is already violates COM:L. You may double check to see if I'm wrong. --A1Cafel (talk) 07:47, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Ok. However, is the FlickrLickr process now considered faulty or unreliable? --Túrelio (talk) 08:02, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
@Túrelio: I don't know. However, I see the other Flickr photos uploaded via FlickrLickr also have the license review by the bot or trusted users, so I think the above files should be reviewed as well. --A1Cafel (talk) 08:14, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
I am not accustomed to the FlickrLickr process. However, if I read the record/description of all these files correctly, then they had been reviewed, as the name of the reviewers (different users) is included in the description. So, if you don't trust this process, I would recommend you to open a general discussion about that at VP. --Túrelio (talk) 08:39, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

Edit Summary

When editing a page on Commons there is a small field labeled "Edit Summary" or "Summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the Edit Summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the Edit Summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's name in the Edit Summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. About those uploads

I may have uploaded some files with the wrong license. I didn't know licensing very well. I have been warned with Pixabay most of times. I learned it. But this time, you try to remove my own work

I can say that I will be more careful. But trying to remove my own work is not right!

Deleting images I uploaded from Flickr

Hi A1Cafel, Many thanks for having reviewed the images I uploaded from Flickr, and for having explained to me why that was not legitimate. I had not grapsped the subtle differences between various é2.0" CC licenses. I better get it now, and of course fully accept that they be promptly deleted. --Judemonde (talk) 10:21, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for checking files for duplicates and many other important tasks you are doing.

On Commons:Undeletion_requests/Current_requests#Files_for_SVG_benchmark I requested the undeletion of two almost duplicates, which are needed for a SVG Benchmark for phab:T40010. The differences are

  • batik has a too strong blur and is too dark (inkscape is better on this)
  • librsvg is almost identical with resvg, but it has a too bright withe dot in the left eye

Since it is part of a SVG-benchmark, files should be accessible and check-able by everyone, even with minor differences, to see e.g. differences in file-size.

I hope undeleting is ok for you.

deleted Eumetsat-based images

Hi @A1Cafel and Polarlys: , this is a follow-up of "deleted Eumetsat-based images" in talk:A1Cafel, 2020-11-28 to 2020-12-05

Following your "request for deletion" (@A1Cafel, 2020-11-11), and your effective deletion (@Polarlys, 2020-11-18),
I've requested EUMETSAT to clarify their licensing policies about RGB images they provide on their web site.

They replied (by email, 2021-02-16) to my inquiry (2020-12-07), and agreed with my lecture of "Legal Framework / Data Policy":

  • RGB images are considered “Advanced Image Product” and hence declared Essential data
  • "EUMETSAT shall make [...] Advance Image Products available to all users world-wide on a free and unrestricted basis"

1) how can I relay to Wikimedia_Commons the email response from "Legal Affairs Division" (@EUMETSAT)?

2) who (singular, plural, group...?) will then receive/be_able_to_read this email copy?

3) are names/email_addresses/private_information secured and how?

4) please, restore deleted images

5) please restore modified pages, in [language].wikipedia, with their information prior to images deletion

6) please, in later times, read, understand, the arguments/explanations of others, rather than using brute action!

Note: I'll provide a template, for this upgraded 2020_data_policy.

yours, En rouge (talk) 21:11, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

PS: in RGB pages, "Data Policy" (last item in left menu) is still broken (EUMETSAT is warned)

Please see Commons:OTRS. I do not withdraw from my deletion decision. The terms of use (https://www.eumetsat.int/about-us/terms-use) were and are not compatible with Wikimedia Commons. I will not restore anything until it has been clearly documented by the rights holder that the files may be used under a free license. Regards, --Polarlys (talk) 20:37, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

Reminder

Hi A1Cafel. I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template, you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 18:41, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

G7 categories

Have moved the G7 category from Category:Carbis Bay Beach to Category:Carbis Bay - feel this makes more sense as the summit was in the village and as not all of the photos are of the beach. At some point when the number of photos being added to the category has dropped a bit I'll go through and re-categorise all the photos of the beach. Thanks, Gazamp (talk) 13:24, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

File:Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China 1988 (1).jpg

Good day. I have converted your "speedy" delete tag for File:Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China 1988 (1).jpg, and changed it to a deletion request. I did this because the reason why you thought it a copyviol was not evident to me, and the file has been in wide use in multiple Wikipedias for years. Please comment at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Tiananmen Square, Beijing, China 1988 (1).jpg. (Note: In my opinion, you sometimes seem too quick to tag things as "speedy" that would much more appropriately go through deletion discussion.) Thanks for your attention. Hi A1Cafel, I provided additional informations about the derivated works and deleted your warning. I wanted to be more specific, but you should know that Public Domain or CC0 license - all the original works were released with these licenses - have no specific restrictions or requirements, so no more infos were really mandatory. File:EtihadTower.jpg

Hello, All the images that I uploaded aren’t a panorama except for EtihadTowers.jpg. There are also other panorama images taken in the UAE, but why is it only my works that are being selected? ADNOCHQ.jpg and other files aren’t a panorama, since they only show a single building. Lyonerov (talk)—Preceding undated comment was added at 11:26, 1 July 2021‎ (UTC)

@Lyonerov: Please read COM:FOP UAE. A photograph of a building is considered as a derivative work, and permission from the copyright holder, i.e. the architect is required. Freedom of panorama (FOP) is an exception of excluding the permission from the copyright holder. Unfortunately, UAE does not have FOP, so permission from the architect is needed. --A1Cafel (talk) 13:54, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

File copyright status

The things I do at Wikimedia is I crop images. I do not upload the original ones. Those are the persons you should be warning. The images I crop seem to have legitimate licenses at the moment I decide to crop them for purposes like adding them into someone's infobox, so they seem to have legitimate licenses until in this case, they do not.

Also it is strange File:John ingvar carlsson311.tif was deleted back in August yet File:John ingvar carlsson311 (cropped).tif has only just been marked. Lochglasgowstrathyre (talk) 13:31, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for nominating questionable files for deletion! When you nominate for Speedy deletion, please be sure to provide an external link to proof of the problem. For example, File:Hwang Yau -tai and daughter at Mong Kok station, Hong Kong.jpg has nomination as a derivative. What is it a derivative of? 2) File:Parque De La Madre.jpg has nomination as a facebook file. Why do you think it came from facebook? You did many right so not all are problems. Having these links aids evaluation of the problem by the deleting admin. Royalbroil 03:21, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

File:Patryk Janas 1.jpg I can't find that image on the google search result, just similar images. Royalbroil 03:29, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
File:Hwang Yau -tai and daughter at Mong Kok station, Hong Kong.jpg is a historical image taken in 1973, which appears to be taken from some other place but not the uploader's work. But based on your questioning, I change the tag to {{Dw-nsd}}. File:Parque De La Madre.jpg is a Facebook image per "FBMD" Metadata, the issue was discussed at Commons:Village pump/Copyright/Archive/2016/04#Facebook images (exif/metadata). I have changed the reason of SD for File:Patryk Janas 1.jpg. --A1Cafel (talk) 06:24, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

2019 European Amateur Team Championship, photo of winning team

On the article 2019 European Amater Team Championship I have published a photo of the winning team. I have been wrongly noticed that the photo is not free to use.

A press release from the Swedish Golf Federation https://golf.se/pressrum/2019/07/historiskt-medaljregn-over-sverige-i-lag-em/ they states (in Swedish): "Bilder och filmade intervjuer fria att använda om du anger fotografens namn kan laddas ned här för fri användning"

English translation: "Pictures and filmed interviews are free to use if you note the name of the photographer May be downloaded here for free use"EEJB (talk) 06:12, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

@EEJB: The terms "Free (to) use" is vague, with no indication of allowing commercial use and the make of derivative works. --A1Cafel (talk) 06:49, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Will a written permission by e-mail from the Swedish Golf Federation for use on Wikipedia be enough? The purpose with this photos is to spread them to media an get attention.EEJB (talk) 08:56, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

@EEJB: You could submit the written permission to OTRS--A1Cafel (talk) 14:27, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

hi, first, I'd like to find some information about a license in Korean. There's no clear explanation in my language. So I used google translation. Anyways, I uploaded some photos that I took pictures of my old CDs. In this case where's license? Recording label? Artist company? the photographers?(no info sometimes) Please let me know.

Thank you. --Vanilie (talk) 00:41, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

The images can be found by clicking on the photo tab of the page given as a source. As for their status as PD the template says "However, the NWS sites also host non-NWS images which have been submitted by individuals: these are generally shown as "Courtesy of ...". Such images have explicitly been released to the public domain by the copyright owner as part of the upload process." which was added by User:Runningonbrains in 2008 at the creation of the template. I don't think speedy is really a viable approach here.Geni (talk) 16:33, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

The information on PD-NWS seems to be accurate based on https://www.weather.gov/lmk/photo_submission_information which explicitly states all photos submitted and featured on the website are explicitly PD. ~Gwennie🐈💬 📋16:55, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

Deletion rationale for NWS images.

I see you have nominated several images, hosted on National Weather Service websites, for deletion on the basis that those pictures were taken by third parties. Those images are still public domain since the authors release their images to the public domain when they submit them to be published by the NWS. This much is stated in the {{PD-NWS}} template. TornadoLGS (talk) 18:35, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

It is also stated on the NWS website: [1]. TornadoLGS (talk) 18:41, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

Photos with possible copyright violations marked for deletion

Hi A1Cafel. Thank you for your comments regarding the following files:

All of these photos have been provided by the artist - Paul Masvidal directly to me and I uploaded on his behalf. I am aware of the copyright policies as Paul had sent OTRS requests for other files as well. Does this have to be done for each of these files individually or can there be some sort of a batch approval as it is coming directly from the artist? Kindly advise. Thanks in advance. -- Abhaysingh1978 (talk) 10:38, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

@Abhaysingh1978: If you have submit the permission to OTRS, an OTRS agent will forward the email. If they received it then they will replace the copyvio tags with {{OP}}--A1Cafel (talk) 16:10, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
@Abhaysingh1978: Usually the files concerned are listed in the letter to OTRS. If there is a new batch, a new letter is needed. I suppose using the same ticket number might make things smoother. –LPfi (talk) 17:35, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
