Hello,
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Commonist licenses[edit]

Dear

As you might know Wikimedia is currently migrating from the GFDL to cc-by-sa-3.0. Wikimedia Commons is also migrating and we're down to less than 8000 files (started with about 1,8M files) . Unfortunatly this number keeps growing because Commonist contains outdated license templates. You appear to be running Commonist, could you please change the following lines in your license.txt?

GFDL should be changed to GFDL
GFDL should be changed to GFDL
cc-by-sa-2.5 should be changed to cc-by-sa-3.0

Can I also fix the images you have already uploaded by adding ?

Thank you very much, Multichill (talk) 12:37, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

sure, go ahead. FYI, i did not download Commonist rather than running it from the link in its page. i guess you would like to fix that. (talk) 22:51, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Changed your recent uploads. Commonist should be changed, but I can't seem to get in touch with the author. Multichill (talk) 11:17, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Vote[edit]

Replied at my talk page. Short answer: Its not a majority vote and its not going to run for a week (it will run for longer and until "consensus" is reached).--Nilfanion (talk) 11:22, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Meggido[edit]

Megiddo

Meggido

Category:Meggido

Hanay (talk) 06:41, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Armageddon. Tomer A. (talk) 07:12, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hanay (talk) 07:28, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tomer A. (talk) 07:33, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tel Megiddo

Armageddon

Category:Tel Megiddo

Hanay (talk) 10:29, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tomer A. (talk) 14:27, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is currently an OTRS received tag on this image, which means that you haven't fully resolved the permission for it. Can you please either change the tag to permissionOTRS if the permission is OK, remove the tag if permission isn't required, or request deletion of the image if we will not get permission? Thanks! Files still awaiting OTRS confirmation[edit]

Hello, תומר א.. The file(s) listed below have been marked with OTRS received, but there has been no complete confirmation of its permission status in the last 30 days. From what I'm able to tell, you were the person who added this template. Would you mind taking a look at this again? If confirmation cannot be found, this file should probably be marked for deletion. This should be the only notification you will receive regarding this image, so long as the comment I added to the image description page is not altered. Thanks! HersfoldOTRSBot(talk/opt out) 22:43, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you are not an OTRS volunteer or did not add the "received" template to this file, it's possible I made a mistake identifying the correct user. I look for the most recent diff where the template was added, so if you reverted an edit where this template was removed, I can't tell the difference. If this is the case, please let my operator know at w:en:User talk:Hersfold. Sorry for the inconvenience!

The file(s) in question are:

How lovely of you young bot. All pictures were taken care of. Tomer A. (talk) 19:16, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't upload images like this. This was beyond the project scope because it isn't realistically useful for educational purposes. As per the project scope, examples of files that are not realistically useful for an educational purpose include "Self-created artwork without obvious educational use". I assume Rama's reason for deleting this would be along these lines. Adambro (talk) 09:45, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry but I don't get it. It seems to me that both pictures fall under the same category. Aren't they? Tomer A. (talk) 10:58, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for my ignorance, but are you a notable artist in so much as there are Wikipedia articles about you? Adambro (talk) 11:04, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
no. Tomer A. (talk) 11:26, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In which case I would suggest there is a difference between your image and that by Latuff, and that difference makes one more realistically useful for educational purposes than the other. Adambro (talk) 11:30, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did not see your image, Tomer, but what adambro tries to explain to you that because your cartoons did not get a second prize in the Holocaust denial cartoon competition in Iran as hate by latuff did, you have no right to upload it to Commons. Regards.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:20, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Bahai Gardens (20).JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

I noticed this but it is now archived and should not be edited as stated by the template. You may add the note to the talk page or, if it is directed to a particular editor, you can leave a message on their talk page. Please revert your change. Thank you --ZooFari 17:37, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I do not understand why do you insist. Someone had archived the page incorrectly and placed a certain template. Why does it matter if I add another line. had the template said something like: "If you really have to, you can edit the page", would you still mind if I add this line? has any harm done by my deed? What is the point of this conversation? Tomer A. (talk) 13:51, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You should not add anymore comments to the closed DR, period. You can do so in the talk page. What's the point of your extra line? what is it going to accomplish? If you insist doing something about the bad closure then you can contact the person who closed it so that he or she can fix it. For the record, we don't want any extra lines lingering outside the archival template. --ZooFari 18:23, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've reverted your comment one more time. Please don't revert. If you have a problem with this, we can discuss it or you can bring it up at the admins' board or something, but do not start an edit war. Thank you. --ZooFari 20:42, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I can imagine how this probably looked like, you (plural!) couldn't bare the thought of extra lines lingering outside the archival template so you just couldn't wait for my response and had to escalate this to an edit war after two hours from your message. indeed, yesterday, we went another step toward a world in which any human being has access to the sum of all human knowledge without extra lines lingering outside archival templates. You can sleep well, I will not revert again, I'm just too busy to waste my time with people having "lingering lines" fixations. Ohh, and yes, period. Saying that makes an argument more solid.
