Notes on how to create an outline for an online course

Make an overview page on Commons, in your userspace

[edit]

Ex: Sj/EdX.

  • Create a new page in your userspace (e.g., User:YOURNAME or User:YOURNAME/COURSENAME) with a Table of Contents linking to the pages of the course.
  • Include structured data on each line such as "day title", "video title","video link","subtitles link")
  • Write about what you're doing, so other editors understand context for the incoming stream of videos and materials. Add a note about your work on the course to your user page, and create a short introduction at the top of the outline.

Make a category for the course

[edit]

Create a category page at Category:COURSE TITLE with a one line description of the course. Add this category to new files you upload. Put the category itself in a larger category (say Category:MOOC or Category:EdX)

Ex: See MIT 6.002x

Option: Make a separate overview on other wikis

[edit]

If most of your work is on another wiki -- say, wikifying a textbook on wikisource for translation, or adding media about ancient Egypt to wikipedia -- you may want to create a similar brief overview on that wiki as well. Each wiki has its own tools for tracking recent changes and related updates.
