Code formats[edit]

  • Ideally, by default, every i18n template should return localized terminology in the language of the user's Commons interface (set by "?uselang=").
  • It should be possible to set a custom language manually.
  • Missing translations should either fail gracefully or display prominently, depending on the context.
  • There are pros and cons to maintaining static lists of translations on Commons vs creating subpages vs fetching translations from Wikidata or translateWiki ("Mediawiki:" prefix). I will make a comparison table about this later.

Note: place this template abutted to the following text, such as in {{i18n|cropped from}}[[:File:Example.jpg|File:Example.jpg]]. This template will take care of the space between the two parts, omitting it for languages that do not need it (such as Hebrew), and adding it for others.
