About my being here[edit]

Welcome.

Okay, I'm not the world's greatest photographer. I've uploaded some shots I've taken to make them available under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike.

On occasions it may be so I can use in an article I wish to contribute to.

I understand with time it is likely others will be able to replace it with a better image and I welcome people to do so.

Sometimes I will find a better image has already been contributed to the public domain. Actually I have got someone to be a little better at understand licensing and bringing in images from other sources such as older books. I try to understand and applying licensing stuff correctly.

I feel I may occasionally need to add categories or information to someone elses image if I find that image could do with (re)categorization or additional information. But that is not generally my mission (Unless separating Bracklesham from East Wittering for example).

If you think I've done something stupid it is likely unintentional and please let me know to discuss and reach consensus,

Alternate accounts[edit]

I have alternative accounts Djm-mobile & bigddelboy and while they I wouldn't normally use them on Commons it can happen (usually by mistake).

(Late declaration): I also have an alternative account Deirge Ó Dhaoinebeaga, used predominately in relation to Irish language articles on the Irish Wikipedia. I had originally not planned to use on commons, but decided it was a convenient way to add a group of Ireland-related Flickr photo's while tracking through my previous uploads to add positioning information, which made sense up to the point where I've been unable to resist suspending the location co-ordinates process to add new uploads of my own images. (Update: 18 August 2022. I've used Deirge Ó Dhaoinebeaga predominately for Irish images in parts of South County Sligo but I've also used it for some categorisation work in/under Category:Dún Laoghaire which retrospectively was a mistake as Djm-leighpark is active on images in that area. I also used Deirge Ó Dhaoinebeaga in what I thought was an uncontroversial good faith FoP deletion nomination but I've become uncomfortable with my understanding of FoP Ireland and Djm-leighpark will be handling all such copyright issues in future. Any questions feel free to ask on my talk page. Thankyou. ) More details on my alternate accounts are here.

Thankyou

Devices[edit]

Devices I use/have used for images can include E7i, J6, sx240, ixus275, FZ82, 60D, 20D MotoG4? ... (Strictly speaking my wife owns the ixus275, sx240, 60 & 20D) and its possible something else will come out the woodwork especially if I did out some earlier images. There's some from a Nikon Coolpix L6200??S6200 that I had intended as backup to the trip to Ireland, it failed to charged after some photo in the Chichester college lane/Graylingwell area. In September 2022 I found the L6200 would charge from mains but USB port from a computer was problematic so it has been back in action - it has the smallest carry case and I can fit it in a pocket). As of September not seen here yet I am practicing using the 60D+Macro lens and FZ82 for negative scanning and this will likely mean images from negatives working there way onto commons over the Winter.

June 2022[edit]

I am indefinitely blocked on the English Wikipedia however have continued to contribute to Commons. I may at some point move away from loading to Commons and generally switch to Flickr, Geograph or whatever while leaving a CC-BY-SA license for own images, inherited images, images bought with copyright provenance etc., etc. However I need to plan what I want to do any why, and am in general remaining in commons at least for present. With uploaded commons images there is often a fair bit of work with selection and pre-load processing. It is also the case I am putting effort to negative scanning (and cataloging) which is not showing here yet. With originals there is also the question of stewardship of fragile materials, its not simply a question of editing out spelling mistakes. In general I am concentrating on:

  • categorising/diffusing Geographbot uploads to local targets: In particular cats Havant, Chichester are under control, Borough of Havant is next main target. At some point a names review might be needed, but in general the grouping should mean things are more manageable. I have been working on adding position data to my own images that I have uploaded ... I had planned to do that prior to uploading any more images but I have a large number of (pending) uploads to work with (far fewer will actually result in an upload), and I'd feel uncomfortable with leaving those longer. That said I might return to small batches of categorisation & position additions to previous uploads if I am too brian dead to do anything else.

July 2022 : Egg balls[edit]

I was reading about {en:GPS coordinates and related articles and have come away with a spinning head. Jotting down some stuff here:

... This list goes on but from what I think have read elsewhere that OpenStreetMap and Google maps use system that is considered flaed flawed (by whom?)... possibly due to the en:Geodetic datum they use. I don't think this is on WP .. actually as I write this I find en:Web Mercator projection which is probably the key thing I'm trying to get my head spinning round. I might do something in simple.wikipedia.org at some point, what I'm not at all sure.(July 2022)

  • Commons:Geocoding : just come across this on 27 July 2022 and attempting to grog it.

Ireland trip (18)19-22 July 22[edit]

I finally got back home to Ireland inserting via Rosslare, spending 24 hrs in Dublin before going to South County Sligo and exiting a day early via Knock at short notice you to a potential (turned out to be not as serious as could have been in the event). I had originally intended to exist via City of Derry/Count London Derry and an RPSI steam trip and event in Belfast before Dublin Port/Holyhead/Euston/Hampshire. However that was caped (did the RPSI know I was coming?) and I was planning to get the Redeye from Sligo to Dublin on the Saturday until getting a phone call on 10:00 on Friday and being booked, travelled to he airport and checked in the air 3 hours later (sans passport!)! I lot of people on the trip were really, really helpful, and I remember the guy who came to the top desk of a 15 bus to ensure I got off at Connolly! I had the GPS on on my E7i when round Dublin but it seems to be loading Welsh GPS co-ordinates of a place I've never been to Wales to EXIF which the bots are likely to proppogate. More co-ordinate fun! I've sifting through images taken on the trip and have triage sorted to sets and am slowly loading them. I am not, typically, at this stage, mostly not loading co-oridinates until I understand that space a lot, lot better. I've loaded up some LUAS images already, but am possibly doing some classification as it is (mostly) not my intention to duplicate images that do not show different to those already present on commons - in practice duplicates will still happen a lot and it will be very easy to spot examples of images I need not have loaded. I'm still regretting watching 60040 trundling light through Haverfordwest around 6pm and not getting a shot, but an image of Bergin's headstone was a key objective I did achieve (thanks to good people at Mt. Jerome). I did miss Pim & Baileys in Dún Laoghaire though despite searching up and down any being within 100m of it! Thankyou. (This has been updated in 18 August 2022 and probably still contains errors!)

WLM 2022[edit]

I, and to a degree as Deirge, have participated heavily in this competition. Perhaps initially out of curiosity in relation to Categorisation I've done around Havant / Chichester and some images I load there, Deirge also have images from South Sligo and Ireland related. Its been useful to use Monumental for this, and I've also got ben to understand relationships of e.g. {{NIAH}}, {{Wikidata}}, {{Listed building England}}, ... I've also fed back a couple of comments on the Software. Because of using multiple account and using alternative accounts I've specifically recused myself from prizes from the competition since very earlier in September to avoid any possibility of claims I've trying to game the system ― not that any of my photos for MLM would likely have deserved it, apart form the sewer vent! For me its more about use of Interactive maps from monumental, Historic England and NIAH, and linking images between, commons, wikidata and commons categories.

Overall I've loaded a shedload sitations via monumentatl of listed building sates in Chi/Havant/Emsworth & Bosham and I've got a load of catorization to do on those and thanks to those who have stepped in. I'm waiting for bots etc do their work and then I'll take a wade through, thanks for those who hlp. The mental effects of the English Wikipedia as I'm working through stuff is a problem though and may be a blocker to that activity - since my blocking admin's antics at RFA and various jokes about indefinite blocking there really is causing me issues in doing that sort of work here and asking why bother. As far I can see it all makes socking pay. Deirge has some Irish images to sort through still and may concentrate on those. Thankyou. (12oct2022). I'm not expecting any mass loads of listed buildings like Arundel again but I do now have a trip to the Mad Island planned. Thankyou.

Flickr account and Youtube channel[edit]

Perhaps of relevance is a non-pro Flickr account that is used for images I don't/can't hoist here. Its mostly to do with images derived from negatives, some of which have had previously been on commons but determined not to stay here due to insufficient licence provenance trail evidence. These fall into a number of difference categories of privacy and license release, and its possible some flickr2commons an image, and its not impossible I or Deirge might do so myself if licensing can be justified. I'm not putting the accounts on display here but I am mentioning it in case something comes up. This is a lot to do with Stewardship of negatives and quality of negative scans. It the commons equivalent of an English wikipedia oversighter or a VTRS volunteer wants a ticketed disclosure I'm happy to give it, but specifically naming the names here might be seen as promotional. Thankyou. Wish me luck scanning negatives whcih is really more of a winter activity.

  • I will point out I (most generally as Deirge) loaded to Flickr, CC-BY-SA2'd there then uploaded via Flickr. That probably givens me less licensing grief than going Commons to Flickr, and can allow me to tart things and review things before loading to commons. the numbers aren't great and quite frankly most images of mine have gone through Monumental but this may change.

November 2022[edit]

I am totally blocked and and blocked from an appeal on the English Wikipedia and effectively for practical purposes I have to be view that as a lifetime block. The involvement of sockpuppets, coi editors, involved contributors and possibly a cabal interested in playing games in that block is extremely significant in my view. For the moment I will continue as I have done for the past few months, but I will then review my disillusioned relationship with the project. My immediate thoughts on commons will be probably be that I may reduce certain maintenance activities as they are reminding me of the block. This will affect categorisation of stuff loaded via monumental and the categorisation burden will need to fall to others unless I have active usages for those images or metadata needed to support other things I can do.

On I slightly positive note I've probably managed to add mostly via Monemental images to listed buildings in Havant, Emsworth, Westbourne, Chichester and Arundel so it is probably possible to develop SparQL stuff that can show images for a good proportion of the listed buildings in those areas. It wont be 100% as some probably are only doable from privae land or with illegal drone flying etc. and I've not going there.
