Regio aanduidingen[edit]
Wat is het nut van de vermedling van regio aanduidingen Betuwe = Category:Gelderland, Graafschap Zutphen = Category:Gelderland, IJsselstreek = Category:Gelderland, Overveluwe = Category:Veluwe, Middengebied = Category:North Holland, Noordelijk Westfriesland = Category:West Friesland, Alblasserwaard-vijfheerenlanden = Category:South Holland, Noord Limburg = Category:Limburg (Netherlands) en Zuid Limburg = Category:Limburg (Netherlands)? Volgens mij is dit overbodig en vertroebeld het alleen de provincie en regio-categorieen. Indien niet nodig svp vervangen door spaties. HenkvD (talk) 16:45, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

default category[edit]
Hi,
Concerning my revert. The current categories "RCE Suggested: XXX" are temporary categories, on a case-by-case basis it should be decided what the correct target categories for files in those categories are. Or whether they should not be in any category. The issue with directly adding them to category XXX is that most titles are in Dutch, so doing this creates hundreds of new categorization to non-existing categories with incorrect Dutch names. Another issue is that almost all (99,7% or so) images are Netherlands specific, so it's better to use "Restaurants in the Netherlands" than "Restaurants". Not using this more specific categorisation causes top-categories to be filled with those files, and they can't be moved with cat-a-lot, because the template creates the category.
However, the process and work in progress has taken quite some time. Most of the most important categorisation has been done. A lot of the currently suggested categories are not that good of a suggestion. Finishing the categorisation with a one-size-fits all solution, or a final push, seems like a good idea to me. However I would opt-out of just adding them all to XXX categories. My suggestion would be to remove the still existing RCE-suggested templates and not use those tags left to categorize. Most of the categories with real potential/high numbers have been added already. How do others think about this? Basvb (talk) 09:34, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- @Basvb: The upper Category:RCE suggested categories is located in Category:Rijksmonumenten categories to be classified. It means that all of the "RCE suggested categories" are only "working" categories to be cleaned up. Someone had started to move the suggested categories to normal commons categories, so I had many redirected categories to be emptied. But I couldn't do it -- because of the templates :(
- IMO all of the files from the Category:RCE suggested categories should be moved to proper Commons categories and after that the categories should be deleted. But this is a work fot Bot only, because cat-a-lot doesn't work on categories made via templates. Wieralee (talk) 10:44, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
- The RCE-suggested categories indeed should not be categories within the regular category-tree. Initially the idea was to not even create them. However they were in the way on the WantedCategories special page, and as such have been created and put there. Indeed the optimal thing would be to move everything to proper categories. That can be done either by replacing the template on individual files (with visualfilechange) or by adding a line in the template here, after which they are categorised in the specific category. And if all suggestions have a good category a bot replaces the suggestions with their respective categories (I'm unsure whether this bot is still running). The big problem here is that with thousands of categories this seems to be a bit too much work, and I'm unsure how reasonable it is to expect that this will be done. The biggest categories (churches, water towers, etc.) with 1000s of files have been categorised properly, and by doing that we've got most of the easy results from this system. - The end call with the RCE-subject template is to have it substituted, then the category is 'final' and can be changed normally by users. If we can decide here the suggestions are final, I can do a bot-run to do this. If needed I can just do it for specific RCE keywords. - @Akoopal: it's a reasonable solution, I think. Although - perhaps - suggested categories should be clarified by the use of terminals "in/of the Netherlands"? Wieralee (talk) 22:08, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
