i18n method[edit]

Can this page use {{LangSwitch}} instead of autotranslate. I would like to get rid of {{Language}} subtemplates (moved to mediawiki), Having 1 subtemplate by language make this kind of maintenance much more lengthy. --Zolo (talk) 12:58, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done. There are now just one subtemplate and pages are harmonized. --Zolo (talk) 20:16, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Default language[edit]

Many subtemplates contain an error they have "should contain only pages in language|default=local language (eg. Template:Local maintenance category/pt). This does not make much sense and anyway, is overridden by the "en" default of the main template. But should really be the default be English ? Shouldn't it rather return an error ? --Zolo (talk) 13:07, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed to "please specify language". I do not find it perfectly clear what "local maintenance category" is about. But if it accepts English as a default, the distinction becomes even more elusive. --Zolo (talk) 20:16, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This template, along with {{Global maintenance category}}, were created as a replacement for {{Category scheme Commons maintenance}} system. 4 years ago I decided to transition away from this whole thing, which was unmaintained, unnecessary, and never really caught-on in the first place. The proposed documentation system no longer made sense with the arrival of auto-translation and the category scheme wasn't even close to what we had at the time.
Anyway, I created two distinct templates in hopes of avoiding the problem the original fell into. The main purpose of these header templates (besides informing you it's a maintenance category), was to keep the language-specific category trees (Category:Commons by language) separate from the global/universal tree (Category:Commons maintenance content). And of course auto-categorize. The local/global nomenclature may not be the clearest but I couldn't think of anything better. If you look at Category:Commons-en and the lang links at the top you'll see it's exactly how we treat localized pages, except we're working with localized category trees. I modeled it after how I did the template categories (this one parallels {{Local template category}}). Rocket000 (talk) 23:23, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok it is clearer now, thanks.--Zolo (talk) 07:09, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
