Template:Category scheme Commons maintenance[edit]

Thank you for updating with the usuful efficient function (merged with Lang-Bar), but there is one problem. The message is NOT always applied to the global common categories. In some cases, it is also applies to LOCAL category; in that case, the link doesn'T work. becase the all links are looking at the {{PAGENAME}} and the PAGENAME is always different depeding on their language.

SO, can you give me an idea to fix the problem OR revert the change??? Feel free to tell me your idea. Thanks. --SantaClaus 11:11, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion, template {{Lang-CatDefinition}} - is description for text this template only (but not for contents of a category). For contents of a local category need separate language bar. For example — see Category:Commons help. --Kaganer 11:50, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have understood a problem, I shall think and try to resolve. --Kaganer 12:04, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am glad that you understand the problem. If you click the link, you chould know what the problem is.
I have got an idea. If we spesify the message is ONLY appilied for GLOBAL COMMON, everything should be fine. Then, another message is for each LOCAL should be created separately.--SantaClaus 12:41, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I at once about it have thought. Probably, this unique decision. I create this template for russian language - for example. --Kaganer 12:57, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Will you creat YOUR LOCAL one? I think it would be fine. I can't say so for sure because I am not the top Admins of Commons.
OK. Tomorrow only... --Kaganer 15:12, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But anyway, Can you please revert the common template? --SantaClaus 13:13, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Let me REVERT English Template in order to avoid confusion. You can merge later again when you are ready. --SantaClaus 14:24, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. --Kaganer 15:12, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Starting to get messy[edit]

Ok, I'm bringing this here so hopefully someone that has more Commons maintenance categorizing experience can help out. There are three main issues.

  1. Commons:Category scheme Commons maintenance/en is out dated (both common and en schemes). I tried to add the new cats I found and remove ones that were no longer used, however, there's a lot of overlap and it was messy so it didn't make sense to add categories to the list if they shouldn't have been created in the first part.
  2. I don't know about other languages, but there are a lot of non-English pages in the en maintenance categories. I started to recategorize them but then realized I didn't know which ones were "local" and which ones were "global" such as Category:Commons projects. Yes, the list says it's local, but clearly we're no longer following that.
  3. Category:Commons maintenance. It just confuses me. What goes in there and what goes in the parent Category:Commons maintenance content? Should those sub-cats in Category:Commons maintenance really be in a local category (i.e. English)?

Also, I keep finding things like Category:Commons administration and Category:Commons categories, which i don't know what to do with. (That header template should probably go too. We got Template:Category scheme Commons maintenance.)

It seems like we had a really good scheme to begin with but then it kinda fell apart when people tried importing schemes from other projects (*cough*en.wp *cough*). I'm really hoping someone that knows this area well can help sort this out. I'm willing to do the work if I just had some updated/clearer guideline or structure to follow. Thanks. - Rocket000 03:56, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, well, I took it upon myself to revamp this whole scheme... (but there's still a lot to do). One thing I did was make a new template to help distinguish the global cats from the local ones. I'm also planning to make a template for the local cats, so this one won't be needed anymore. Rocket000 07:02, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, please don't start putting the global temp on local categories! Rocket000 07:06, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
