Documentation[edit]
To translate text on a page select it by dragging with the left mouse key pressed and hold shift while releasing the mouse key. A dialog with the translation will pop up.
- Safe way
- Move mouse pointer to start of text section that needs translation
- Press left mouse button
- Drag mouse to end of text section that needs translation
- Press ⇧ Shift
- Release left mouse button
- Release ⇧ Shift
- Simple way
- Just hold shift while selecting the text.
The language of the selected text is detected automatically. The backend of the service is provided by the GoogleTranslate API.
Not all languages available in the Wikimedia Commons preferences are supported by GoogleTranslate. For a complete list see here.
