2008-2012 shift[edit]

This is a great map, would it be possible to have one showing the shift from 2008 to 2012? Would be interesting to see the difference between the first Obama election and his re-election. - FakirNL (talk) 20:51, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I recommend asking Tilden76 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · edit filter log · block user · block log), who has software to do this (apparently). Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:01, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I may be able to do this, I think I have the data needed already. Kmusser (talk) 13:28, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done, requested map is at File:US Election08-12shift.png. Kmusser (talk) 17:50, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! - FakirNL (talk) 15:18, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Interesting to see how blue Massachusetts is, given the governorship of Mitt Romney, and also some blue counties in the Deep South (people are getting used to the idea of a black president maybe). - FakirNL (talk) 15:21, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Those blue counties in the Deep South are majority African-American counties. Kmusser (talk) 17:34, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fairly surprised how much variance there is in the Northeast. That variance doesn't seem to occur on this map, nor much in other parts of the country. Are you sure you tabulated the data correctly? If so, my guess is people may have been self-segrating more there than elsewhere in the last four years. Good catch, there is an error there, looks like the source I used had town results and county results mixed together, only effects the New England states. Will upload a corrected map when it's done. Kmusser (talk) 03:35, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
New York looks suspect too. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:31, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fix uploaded. New York had a problem in the NYC burroughs which I fixed, but the rest of the state checked out ok. Kmusser (talk) 02:33, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
