Title
Entablature with friezes, south side of the Loreto Chapel
Object type frieze
object_type QS:P31,Q183272
Description

The superimposed entablatures of the Loreto chapel in Fribourg/Switzerland are accompanied by two tendril friezes. The lower frieze has putti at both corners. The upper frieze is higher and more richly decorated. In the centre appears the Jesuit coat of arms held by two angels. To the right of this is a coat of arms, possibly that of the family Zimmermann, and to the left two lions hold the coat of arms of the State of Fribourg and against the corners are two lozenges with the moon (far left) and the sun (far right) respectively.

Despite the variety of motifs, the friezes appear airy and clear, but not dry.
