Description
English: Illustrated title page "The most excellent Hugo Grotius Of the rights of Peace & Warr Translated into English by the Reverend William Evats B.D. Printed for Ralph Smith under the Piazza of ye Royall Exch: in Cornhill". (Royall Exch: = Royal Exchange.) Couple with wine and wheat. Ceres. Cartouches with portraits of the authors: "The most excellent Hugo Grotius" and "The Reverend W: Evats B.D. Aetat: Suae 77." Scene of people with a wine press. Dancers with a flute player. Lady (Ceres) wearing a laurel wreath and holding two pigeons (peace doves), two cornucopias at her feet. Warrior wearing the aegis and wielding a sword (Mars?). Drum. Below a battle scene of cannons firing from the ramparts of a fortification, army tents, buildings on fire, a group fighting.
