Cette vue imaginée depuis une hauteur au sud de la ville montre à gauche le Rhône et ses moulins, l'hôpital des pestiférés et les jardins de Plainpalais au devant, puis les fortifications. À gauche le quartier de Saint-Gervais, avec L'Île et ses ponts sur le Rhône, au centre et à droite la ville haute avec la cathédrale.
