Year 2005 Mumbai rains were devastating ![edit]

While the organizing team empathises with the "struggle", please be noted that this is a photography and video campaign. We would like to limit the discussion to given scope only. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 05:07, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In 24 hours there was 900 mm of torrential rains made the citizens to suffer; and there were scores of people lost their lives. My wife went with her friend for a 'darshan' at the Siddhivinayak temple, prabhadevi, at 11-45 am or so. Her darshan was very fast and she was coming by The government bus back to Ghatkopar in between at Kurl bus depot, she was caught with unprecedented torrential rain with gusty winds, and the whole place was with kheyos, (Atmalinga (talk) 12:13, 31 July 2021 (UTC))-will continue[reply]

Hi @Atmalinga, That must have been devastating, indeed! I just wanted to let you know that this is a photography campaign that will run from 15 August 2021 to 31 August 2021. If you have photographs of the 2005 Mumbai rains then those can be shared during the campaign. Thanks for participating on the discussion page. Satdeep Gill (talk) 00:52, 1 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(Atmalinga (talk) 01:11, 3 August 2021 (UTC)) Sir, I had taken a few pics, near our house at Ghatkopar. Since I changed my computer and mobiles, all those (two or three) photos are lost. I'll continue the story : While they were travelling in BEST bus, the outside drains water entered the bus. Every where there was water-gutter water mixed with oil, grease, and automobile oil. The people were caught inside their AC cars and died. Rain was pouring, with out lightening, and thunder. The communication was cut. No mobile was working, except the phones of Mumbai Mahanagar telephone nigam phones. They were of no use to the commuters, and the outside homes. Now the although it was a very sad story, some great minds came to rescue of the devastated ladies, and senior people. Some group of Muslim, youth came with big ropes and plastic boat like things and picked up the ladies and carried them on their, shoulders and took them to a Masjid which was near, and hundereds of such unfortunate passengers from all over the near by place were sitting inside the Masque, shivering with chil, all their clothes were wet. My wife and her friend, also sat in corner of the Mosque praying the Lord. They were not able to communicate to me and my son who were waiting for them. The Muslim community provided 'Khichadi' and hot chai to all the people who were sitting there. I and my son wanted to know the whereabouts of these ladies, came with great difficulty up to Narayan nagar, and wanted to go to Kurla bus stop where this calamity happened. The heaviest rain followed by gusty winds, and the back waters of Mahim creek rushed back wards into the gutter and created havoc, and it was like 'Hell' like atmosphere. (I will write further later)[reply]

Hi I remember the day I was in Navi Mumbai and I arrived at the Santacruz airport to catch a flight to Delhi. I was invited by DIG Police Hyd Ms Aruna Bahuguna to present to Dr. Abdul Kalam our OLPC propject at the Police Academy. Alas....never happened. It was a surreal sight to see the water rising...with water leaking insde the departure lounge and flowing out from the building. The phone lines were not working, all the checkin counters were closed and fortunately I did not let my cab go and turned around and rushed back to Navi Mumbai, which took forever..but made it just in time before the city drowned... and my driver standed in Navi Mumbai. It was an unbelieavble sight and I had all my cameras but not the presence of mind to shoot with the stress of it all. Definitely will not make a good war time journalist.

Video specifications, details[edit]

First of all, I really thank all the organisers to take up this idea and launch such an important campaign and contest around the 'struggles'. I am convener of organisation Lek Ladki Abhiyan, which is active in many social movements. We have produced few short films various struggles, hence we need your guidance in releasing those under this campaign. Please clarify the points below regarding the video uploads -

  • What should be the size and duration of the video, Max & min?
  • Whether it should be raw or edited one?
  • Is mixing of music, stills etc. allowed?
  • Are you expecting a finished documentary/short film production to be uploaded?
  • Should it be actual, real time shoot or artificial planned one?

Thanks!--वर्षा देशपांडे (talk) 06:15, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@वर्षा देशपांडे: Thanks for your questions. We don't have any restrictions as such, however, I will answer point-wise:
  • No restrictions on size. Too long might make it hard for the tool to convert into WebM format.
  • We suggested an edited one, however, the raw one is accepted too, unless it is too confusing.
  • We would like to encourage preserving the original sounds, such as people talking, but adding music to improve the overall watching experience, that is completely fine.
  • No such expectation.
  • All are acceptable.
Honestly, we don't any restrictions, our motivation is to document as much as possible, so please share whatever you seem is appropriate for the scope of the campaign. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 12:28, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Participation from other countries[edit]

Is it possible to participate from Bangladesh? Syed07 (talk) 08:41, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Syed07: Though you may participate, we are unable to send prizes to Bangladesh due to legal restrictions. KCVelaga (talk · mail) 06:07, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
