Wikistalking[edit]

I don't mean to come off as negative (in fact, I've often thought such a tool would be useful in responsible hands – such as my own, of course ;-) – on other wikis), but is there a potential for it to be abused for wikistalking? If so, what are the implications, and how do we best prevent such abuse? LX (talk, contribs) 05:11, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is. What you do in fact, is keeping a very close watch on somebodies contributions, which is, wikistalking. Wikistalking however is only a problem, if it concurs with harrasments, personal attacks, etc. This tool is meant to easier spot vandalism, and yes it is not troll-proof.
The lucky thing is, that only a maximum number of contributions can be seen using this tool. -- Bryan (talk to me) 10:07, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wikistalking is a concern, but if this work as the box says, it will be tremendously useful for following up serial copyvio offenders which at the moment is no easy task. We can tell if people are using this by inspecting their Javascript and CSS pages. I propose that anyone seen to be abusing the script (by using it to "follow" someone's edits around the wiki, regardless of what they are actually doing) should have it removed from their pages (which can then be protected to stop it being re-added), and they should receive an appropriate block, as this is disruptive behaviour. pfctdayelise (说什么?) 11:51, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Excactly. Wikistalking is only a concern when it is about an user that is acting in good faith. I support blocks and protections for disruptive behaviour. -- Bryan (talk to me) 13:21, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me! LX (talk, contribs) 03:53, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Opera?[edit]

Any chance that this will work in Opera in future? Samulili 19:36, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully. There are actually no limitations that will cause it not to work in Opera; it is not working because I haven't had the time to look yet. -- Bryan (talk to me) 19:55, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It works. -- Bryan (talk to me) 20:02, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A wish[edit]

Would it be possible to exclude pages that are in my regular watchlist from my Extended watchlist? I only mean to use EW for looking after misguided users who upload copyvios. Samulili 09:18, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
