Existing schemes and technologies[edit]
Please note Commons:tag categories. The scheme is still roughly used, though it fell a bit into disrepair lately. However, I think it would be a good basis for a machine readable license systems.
As to publishing licensing metadata, it would be nice to use a standard format, such as CreativCommons RDF. There is an extension which would make that easy: mw:Extension:RDF. I suggest to review that and finally get it live on wikimedia sites. -- Duesentrieb ⇌ 08:17, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Getting usages of deleted files[edit]
Is it possible to get the usages in Wikipedia articles of an image which is deleted from commons using the API? --Harideepan (talk) 08:03, 5 January 2018 (UTC)
