Report by Les livres de Therese Dvir

@Les livres de Therese Dvir: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a smaller (<50,000 bytes or <2,000,000 pixels) jpg photo as a new user while leaving the summary intact. The photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a smaller photo, it is a copyright violation taken from the web. If you took the photo yourself, please upload the full-size original of it, including EXIF metadata. If you did not take the photo, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept it, and have the photographer post Commons:Licensing compliant permission for such work on their website or social media presence or send the photo and permission via OTRS with a carbon copy to you. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter. Why are you writing a French language article on Therese Dvir in your English Wikipedia user talk page? How is File:טרז דביר.JPG your own work? Pinging @Dvir therese as uploader.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 00:42, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a smaller (<50,000 bytes or <2,000,000 pixels) jpg logo as a new user while leaving the summary intact. The logo you tried to upload is smaller, and you indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a smaller logo, it's a copyright violation taken from the web. Please upload the full-size original of it, including EXIF metadata, but it may be judged too complex to be under TOO in the country of origin, so you may need to post COM:L compliant permission for such works on your website or social media presence or send permission via OTRS because we don't allow Fair Use here. Also, any raster image will look jaggy when scaled up, so you may want to upload an svg version, too. If you want to use the file on English Wikipedia, please read WP:F. @Famoushotels: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a png photo as a new user while leaving the summary intact. Such uploads of png photos are not allowed at all. You indicated it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a png photo, it's a copyright violation taken from the web. Please upload the full-size original of it, including any metadata, but if you were not the original photographer, that person may need to post Commons:Licensing compliant permission for such work on their website or social media presence or send permission via OTRS with a carbon copy to you. Also, it will look fuzzy when scaled down (due to design decisions discussed in phab:T192744), so you may want to upload a jpg version which will look sharper, too. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:43, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

I clicked the box that indicated that I own the image but it was still refused, although I cannot remember the precise reason.

I don't know what else I could do to prove that the image is mine and would welcome guidance. I find all the policies impenetrable. EasonsGreen (talk) 15:45, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: It seems that the abuse system has made a mistake. I took this photo, and I uploaded the full-size version of it. What might I do to correct the abuse filter? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Don Cierra (talk • contribs) 01:18, 9 September 2020‎ (UTC)
@Don Cierra: The file you tried to upload, File:Permanente Creek I-280.jpg, is only 1,302 × 977 pixels, or 1,272,054 pixels, or 1.213125 Megapixels. That is only 63.60270% of that filter's current minimum 2 Million pixels. Where did you get a camera with so few Megapixels, and such an odd image height? Why can't you use our Upload Wizard instead?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 03:39, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: The image was the size of default download from Google Photos. The original error message did not explain the minimum size requirement ("unconstructive"), and the message you pasted, with "cross-wiki", a term that may make sense to someone else, sounds to me as though Wikipedia concluded that I were copying the photo from someone. Although Google Photos did eventually give me the full-size image, this interaction makes me think that some of the many people who get this explanation have had the same circumstances. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Don Cierra (talk • contribs) 06:41, 9 September 2020‎ (UTC)

@Don Cierra: I'm glad you were able to get it uploaded at 4,032 × 3,024 pixels or 12,192,768 pixels (6.04 MB) with the wide angle portion of the Sony Exmor IMX363 12.2 MP (1.4 μm) with f/1.7 lens, 28 mm rear camera on your Google Pixel 4. Was that so difficult? I categorized it for you, please do that yourself for future uploads. It appears you used the "Cross-wiki media upload tool" of the VisualEditor. This filter issues warning MediaWiki:abusefilter-warning-cwuploads and denial MediaWiki:abusefilter-disallowed, which can be discussed at their respective talk pages. Please see Commons:Abuse filter/Automated copyvio detection, Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive 58#AbuseFilter for cross-wiki uploads, and phab:T138273 for history behind the creation of this filter. The minimum size in total pixels was originally proposed as 1 million, implemented as 5 million, and reduced to 2 million last month. I use "million pixels" for precision and accuracy; camera and phone manufacturers stretch the truth by 4.8576% when they call the same measurement "MP" or "Megapixels". How do you know the subject?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 23:21, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

@Lesdigivores: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload png and smaller (<50,000 bytes or <2,000,000 pixels) jpg logos as a new user while leaving the summary intact. Such uploads of png logos are not allowed at all. You indicated each is your own work. Usually when someone uploads a logo, it's a copyright violation taken from the web. Please upload the full-size original of it, including any metadata, but it may be judged too complex to be under TOO in the country of origin, so you may need to publish the logo and your permission for it on your website or social media or send them via OTRS. Also, any png image will look fuzzy when scaled down (due to design decisions discussed in phab:T192744) or jaggy when scaled up, so you may want to upload an svg or jpg version, too. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter. See also en:WP:PAID.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:31, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Warning of filter 122

Yust a note, the german translation for the warning of Filter says that you can upload the image by clicking the Save button again, while the filter is set to disallow. So please either alter the warning (you can set the warning as the message to show when the edit is disallowed btw) or dont set the filter to disallow. Dont realy know if I'm right here, but this looks like the best place. Victor Schmidt (talk) 15:41, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

@Victor Schmidt and Jeff G.: Looking at the last 500 hits, I wouldn't want to be changing from disallow, so let us update the text in the message. The English text is at MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-gallery, and I would suggest that we put the suggested update for the German text at MediaWiki talk:Abusefilter-warning-gallery/de and add a {{Edit protected}} when ready to go. It doesn't look as though we have translations other languages. If the existing de message is truly problematic, we can delete and rely on the en version, though that is not my preference.  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:31, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
